Why do you think so?

I'm glad you asked.

Stallone might not have been up on a stage wearing nothing but a thong, but that doesn't make him any less of a bodybuilder. Being in his 60's he's spent more than half of his life building his body and is in better shape than most, one has to remember that Stallone never was genetically gifted for bodybuilding... he never spent all day lifting and eating... he had a fantastic movie career, yet he was able to build up his tremendeous physique!

He didn't start bodybuilding seriously until he was well into his 30's.

He was in shape for months and months on movie sets... compare that with a bodybuilder who just peak a few times a year!

Imagine the hectic schedule of Stallone? And still he's able to keep in that awesome shape!! That's mindblowing!!

Skinny legs= Not a bber.

All boxers have skinny legs, it's so they can stay in the lower weight classes. He had to look realistic in his movies. I think he is more of a bodybuilder than the pansies who prance around on stage.

Remember that opening stick fighting scene in Rambo when he turns around after tying the head band on.
I was like "crap!" He was 42 years old in the scene. Other than Arnold, I don't think any major movie star ever achieved that level of development and conditioning. Not Lungren or Carl Weathers. Not that homo Van Damme. Not even the great Bruce Lee, though supremely conditioned, lacked substantial development.

Well it depends on how you define it

Should we judge the final product or the road getting there

If someone is so genetically gifted that he's almost a complete bodybuilder even at an early age of say 15 or 17 what is there to respect ?

Rocky was the one of the greatest sports movies of all time. (When he actually looked like a heavy)

Rocky 2 was decent.

Rocky 3 thru 6, absolute garbage.

Rocky Balboa was hardly garbage.  The critics were salivating to jump all over him and trash it as soon as it was announced, but by in large gave it glowing reviews.  It was equally well received by movie goers.  It was an excellent bookend to the series, especially after the very forgettable Rocky V.

Personally I think Rocky V was the only awful one of the bunch.  Also several times a year the first 5 movies are shown consecutively on a couple different channels.  They are classic and will continue to see air time for years to come.  My son's who are 11 and 9 will always stop to watch if a Rocky movie is on even if it is half way done.

Its actually pretty amazing that Stallone obtained and maintained such a low level of bodyfat and muscle mass with would I would assume would be a fairly hectic schedule on a movie set.

Yes especially those kinda movies where he need to be in shape and without a shirt through the whole filming that goes on for months and months, not just for a couple of weeks for one scene, add to that living in a trailer, having long filmings most of the day and maybe into the night... doing his own stunts... flying to different countries for filming... it's a whole different life than being Jay Cutler preparing for a show in Las Vegas...

"Greatest BB"..."natural" hahaha the ball-washing's reached epic proportions.

Pretty much average guy, no significant size before or after the roids and LA personal trainer  interventions.

No athletic or filmmaking ability either-the choreography in the boxing scenes was always some of the worst i've ever seen, the old batman & robin TV show fight scenes were more convincing. :D

In the last few years, what Stallone has accomplished is actually quite remarkable.  When it was first announced that another Rocky was to be made, to say people were skeptical would be an understatement.  He brought the character back after a 16 year hiatus, with the last film Rocky V, having been a disappointment.  Everyone wrote Sly off, but against the odds, in the very same fashion as his characters, he made the sixth installment both a critical and financial success.  He then followed Rocky Balboa with Rambo, a character that had not been seen in 20 years.  In doing so, he shed light on a very real and dire situation in Burma, and at the same time, showed the world once again what a real action hero really is.  Which is even more amazing, when one considers his being past 60 years of age, and putting in 18 hour days as writer, director and star.  In a cinematic world full of CGI and muscle suits, Sly is truly the last of the true action stars.

yeah,,he ran in the same circle with the gold gym crew's from 80's and i'm sure they passed sly some valuable info on how to get the job done.u want to see clean sly his bad movies stop or my mom will shoot, oscar or any movie shot around his girls with jennifer flavin u will see him smaller/softer,then cliff hangeron he was reinvented leaner again with vascularity look he was known previous and even more so.

Rambo III

lol i remember he was flexing his muscles to show their details in every scene in these old rambo movies..

yes he has inspired many ppl to start training especially with rocky's training scenes.. you must watch them in the 80s and early 90s to be inspired :D
