My arm has cost my INSURANCE COMPNAY over $200,000.00 bucks.
That's two hundred thousand dollars.
I did not see ONE BILL.
I pay for my own health insurance...and for my former staff as well.
My hand surgeon, tops in the world, Yale guy, did a lecture last month in China.
He said their level of care is equitable to circa 1950-1955 Korean War standards.
Health care crisis m y ass.
Harden the fuck up.

...what is your yearly insurance cover cost? Multiply that out by how long you have been paying it.
The other question is whether you would still be sick $200,000 later if there wasn't such an incentive for your doctors to TREAT a chronic disease rather than CURE it?

I understand that some docs want to fill their annuities with my visits.
I am too savy to have my time wasted like that.

Bingo.
I have to wonder... what stops a doctor from 'running up the tab' and trying a few different solutions to drag it out? Sounds like he's made a good chunk of 200k from not fixing this arm. In a tough economy, with his house payment due, what motivation does he have to cure you immediately?

Well, in that case, I would have to question his competency.
If he can't solve an infection - as you're talking about the possibility of amputation and consulting getbig's experts for medical advice - it sounds like you should get a second opinion.
Or, maybe you want to live with that growing gash for another year. And let your insurance company spend another 200k on it.
Most people would decide they had given the yale employee enough time and money to solve the problem, and they would consult with another doctor. You're resigning yourself to optimism - while at the same time starting jingoist threads claiming US superiority.
You should instead be directing this energy at locating a specialist who can solve this problem so you're not living with it for another year. Your doc isn't *that* good if the gash is growing and you're talking amputation.

In all due respect, rob, I think you stay in your house too much.
I do, too.
But I have a good reason.
Of course, I have consulted with several other dosctors for multiple opinions.
They have ALL deferred back to Joseph Slade, III, M.D....they say, "He is the best"
I wouldn't not worry too much about thye poor insurance companies spending money on us little people.

I'd say it's time to see what 2nd or 3rd best has to say. You're decomposing and may lose that arm.
-
I have paid about 150K for health insurance for me and staff after 15 yrs of practice.
My total medical bills exceed 500K
...so of the "supposedly" 500k in medical bills, at least 100k goes to support the 20% of Americans with no coverage (doctors and hospitals don't just eat those bills). That brings us down to 400k.
Secondly, it is well established (by several studies) that Europeans pay a lot less than Americans for THE EXACT SAME CARE... so using France as an example (they have the best healthcare system in the world), then the 400k figure has to be reduced by approx 40% to allow for the tremendous amount of waste and price-gouging in the American system. The French healthcare system costs approx 60% of what Americans pay per person.
Reducing it by 40% brings us down to 240k.
But we forgot that the French system is inclusive, whereas 20% of Americans aren't covered.
So if the French are paying 60% of what Americans pay, yet the French are inclusively covered... then we should reassess that 60% factor. So we should reduce the 240k by a further 25% (the full cost of the American system is paid for by only 80% of the populace).
That brings the 240k down to 180k.
From this 180k of true "medical bills" we should also delete the percentage by which the American taxpayer underwrites the cost of private medical care in the US... from memory I believe this figure is somewhere in the region of 20%.
That brings our 180k down to 144k... the TRUE cost of those 500k in medical bills.
Now let's look at the 150k you claim to have paid in medical coverage...
You forgot to include the taxes you pay that contribute to underwriting private healthcare, you also forgot to include the cost to your previous employers, you also forgot to include the cost of treatment-versus-cure incentives built into private healthcare systems, you also forgot to include the fact that you haven't finished paying coverage... your cost of your coverage will continue to increase year by year till you can no longer afford it... then you will be just another chronically sick no-coverage casualty of the healthcare for profit cartel model.
Congratulations.
Keep voting Palin.

Perhaps. But being the planner that I am...my business 'math' is such that I draw enough lucrative actions and earnings thru my business that I can easily pay for these costs..whioch you assume would shackle me and cause me duress.
Congratulations.

Its not about Repub or Democrat, Luke. Calm down on that stuff. When I am getting sliced in two, I like to know that I am going to wake up from the anesthesia.
America is non pareil for health care.
My very good friend, Dennis Cashman (You can find him and the 11 books he wrote on US history on Amazon) recently said that socialized English medicine is a falure. He had to wait 9 months for a MRI.
Come on, now.

The UN says America has the 37th best healthcare system in the world. France is number one despite spending about half of what America spends per person.
But you don't trust the UN do you? Because you've been to France and samples their healthcare services yourself, right?
If the UN development reports show data vastly contrary to your Republican party FOX News propoganda, maybe it is YOU who should prove some of the uninformed sweeping statements you make, not I.

Universal health care is not free, you still pay for it and medical standards are lower. , find a plan that that the deductable is a little higher and the premium lower (you can find a ppo that offers that). We pay 387.00 a month for my family and I can go anywhere I choose.

Because a country has an obligation to protect it's citizens.
If someone has no money or cannot work due to illness, are they supposed to just die on the street?
This is not right.
And a country with immense wealth has no excuses when struggling countries can still provide health care to it's people.

Sure.
But a country like Somalia barely has a state and no money. It's not a super-state like the USA with massive amounts of resources.
It's also a matter of principle. The state should do everything in it's ability to protect the health and lives of it's people. They pay their taxes and are the backbone of the economy and their country.
What is the US governments rationale for not wanting to provide free health care?
-
Because they care about money ,not about your health ,maybe that's one of the reasons why you are suffering right now .
Okay, Queen.
This is how it works.
I am primarily concerned with MONEY in my practice.
I know this.
My staff knew this.
My little clinic, which helped thousands of people over an 18 year period, took about 50K a month to run.
Very high quality...best heath care around for my patents.
Do I care for them?
I tell my staff,.,..THAT IS A GIVEN.
That already comes before the money.
Martin Luther King said this:
"Its great to do good things, but, without money,
Its kinda tough"
I paraphrased that
So, you need a ton of money to maintain a practice.
I like to go to a doctor that:
1) costs a bit too much
2) I have to wait a bit to see him
3) Has the best, latest technology
All of these things mean that he will also spend time with me; I am paying for the best, etc.

Incidentally they also happen to be the guys who predicted the Credit Crisis.

I hear ya, but what I'm saying is that with the worlds dependency on the success of the US economy, which the latest debacle has proven beyond a doubt, if the US goes down the shitter, the rest of the world will go with it...and in many cases even worse.

The Luke
Lets say the UN actually told the truth for once and we were 37th. If we're 37th then why do people from socialist countries come here for health care?
BTW, in quite a few of your liberal political post you mention FOX news alot, since FOX is about the only two sided network (siding right to the center) that actually tells it like it is and the rest of the networks being BLANTATLY liberal.......it just shows libs have something to hide seeing they bash FOX all day long.

For the record:
FOX News is not "right of centre" as you put it. FOX News is corporate bought fascist propoganda... Bill O'Reilly is a tantamount to virtual censorship: shouting down and dismissing all dissent of Rupert Murdoch's party line... Rush Limbaugh is as deluded as a Holocaust denier...
Keith Olberman is slightly "right of centre".
Rachel Maddow is not some leftist loon... Maddow is what the rest of the world would term "centrist".
American media doesn't have any truly left leaning liberal points of view.
It is the world view espoused by FOX News that spurred the anti-intellectual religious right to elect George Dubya Bush.
Now it's eight years later, the deficit has ballooned from $4.5 trillion to $19 trillion and counting; off-balance-sheet obligations are running at $57 trillion; the $3 trillion sub-prime mortgage mess and associated toxic securities has exposed a $1.2 quadrillion derivatives Ponzi-scheme which in turn has wiped $30 trillion off the values of stocks and shares worldwide... America is now by far the biggest debtor nation the world has ever known ...and America is bankrupt.
Remember Bush trying to sell the ports to the Arabs? Well that wasn't corruption, that was America's creditors refusing any more IOUs. Get ready for the asset stripping of your nation... China has already made it clear they want all of Alaska's oil; the new Trans-American Super Highway and California, and they'll get it too... give it ten years and Americans will be paying taxes directly to China.
What do Americans have to show for this...?
Two failed wars and a state on the brink of martial law. But at least queers aren't marrying and the Ten Commandments are in every courthouse.
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for both of you, Moosejay and The Coach, when I see footage of the lines outside the soup kitchens in the FEMA tent cities. I'm sure you'll be the ones wearing "USA #1!" tshirts.

Wrong. We are the largest consumers in the world. Have you not been paying attention to how much the US market woes affected every other market in the world? Not just China, everybody. Comparing Rome isn't accurate. It's a world economy now, no nation is immune. Ask Iceland, filing bankruptcy basically, as a nation. Everybody is intertwined, and the US, whether you like it or not, drives much of the worlds economy.
And that is indisputable fact.

...economists disagree.
In 1950 Americans produced 90% of what America consumed, by 2000 that number was down to 10%.
The only thing America produces or exports now is debt... the US is now a drain on the world economy.
Keep convincing yourself the Chinese need American consumers... China is wise to the fact that America can NEVER pay it's debts, they are preparing to abandon America to bankruptcy... China is currently rolling out a $600 billion economic stimulus/infrastructure plan, but whereas Bernanke and Paulson are running the printing presses and inflating the dollar, China is paying cash.
China has reserves of $1.3 trillion... meanwhile Obama is reading Fareed Zakari's "The Post-America World".
Just read this thread... you're all convinced the world's 37th ranked healthcare system is the #1 healthcare system in the world. You're all terrified of "socialized healthcare", which would be what the 36 countries ahead of you have.

Do you think there is really that big a difference in 25 or 45? Having lived in #25 for awhile, Germany, I can attest that there were many, many complaints about the time it took to get to see any type of specialist. There are all types of criteria to determine what is good or bad. I have no complaints about ours.
As for the economy, if you really think China is suddenly going to be in good shape by passing a stimulus package, you should probably look a little deeper. The Chinese have zero interest in the US economy failing. We import more of their crap than anybody and that isn't going to change.

...see how quick that changes now that China has announced it will no longer loan America money, and America can no longer afford to buy ANYTHING.
If the Chinese government decided to simply BUY everything that would normally be exported to America and simply give it free to their own citizens... China could continue to fund such self-support for 6 months to a year, just using their currency reserves.

...like I said, Max Keiser, Peter Schiff and Jim Rogers all agree with this outlook. If an anonymous internet poster (Berzerk Fury) considers me a loser does that negate the opinions of Max Keiser, Peter Schiff and Jim Rogers?
"A guy who posts on a message board I read agrees with you experts and I think he's a loser therefore you experts must be wrong... and so is the economic data"...does that quantify your argument?

I have to wonder... what stops a doctor from 'running up the tab' and trying a few different solutions to drag it out? Sounds like he's made a good chunk of 200k from not fixing this arm. In a tough economy, with his house payment due, what motivation does he have to cure you immediately?

He is right. My father has 100% covered health care from his company and we had him in for a bunch of tests 2 years ago because he had the flu, he was out of it, he took Nyquil with some cholesteral meds...etc. It ended up being mixing the Nyquil with the cholesteral meds, but the Doc in the ER ( it was 10pm at night) wanted to run every test imaginable on him. MRI, blood, etc. My Dad is certainly no dope, knew what was up after he heard the Nyguil+ Chol. med diagnosis and wanted out. It was slow so he just tore the IV's from his arm manually and demanded to leave.
He said it himself "They saw my coverage and wanted to do everything they could because they could."

Fair enough, but what are the criteria for this ranking? Is it every single provider in America? Is it quality of care? Is it length of time to wait for care? Is it access?
What I'm saying is that you parrot statistics and numbers that you Googled or just saw on a show somewhere. You copy and paste or just copy and paste. Do you truly understand the numbers? How they are acquired? Who compiles them? The political and national origin of those doing the research?
I'm in no way saying that American health care is the best ever, but do you truly understand what you are copying and pasting onto this board?
The answer is no.

well if they were to fuck up chances are they would fix the problem... if not provide adequate treatment... thats covered without seeing your premium / co-pay etc. etc. go up

I had a buddie who has two children and a wife that looked at hundreds of diff health ins. plans the cheapest he found 4 his income level required him to pay out 1/3 of his monthly income to insure him his wife and two children.and that was before taxes.which as we know there goes another1/3 of your income.I don't know how much he make's a year but 2/3 rd's of his income gone before he paid 4 food or any other bills was not feasible.

Is there such a thing as probiotic treatment for something like this?

a female friend of mine just had kidney stones. They had her on a ton of meds, she got a stint in the kidney, stones blasted, etc.
Her RBC and WBC counts suddenly reversed. It was textbook from the particular meds she was on, and there were a wealth of websites which detailed her need to wait 3 months before panicking, as this was normal when the body endures major infection and major medication. I looked it up for her, showed her there was nothing to worry about, and assured her that in january her cell counts would return to August form, before the infection. They were already treanding back at 10% a month - not too much to stress.
Well, her doctor decided to throw her into a panic. he said "RBC and WBC changes could be cancer!" and had her do a month of intensive tests. She was terrified, crying all the time, worried about dying. her next BC counts came, and she was trending further down - RBC and WBC were almost back to normal in Dec. Still, despite the urgings of me, a Doc friend of mine, and the websites detailing this would happen, she spent the month worrying.
Finally the doctor finished up his battery of tests, charged her fat insurance company 70 grand or something insane, and told her she was fine.
A month of worry because this guy wanted the check. She said his practice was always empty and it seemed like she was his only customer. Piece of crap doc.

That happens under a public system too because in some countries like Canada doctors are charged per visit and per referral.

For once Moosejay you are right. American health care is great for those who can afford it and shit for those who can not. And I quite frankly am content with that. You can not force people in America to work for free. Being a physician, I provide a service and not charity work. Nothing pisses me off than idiots that fight for socialized medicine. They want me to work for free, so I can provide for there lazy asses. FUCK that. I have recently joined a practice where we no longer take insurance payments, we take only cash and we send you the bill to struggle with the insurance company, and quite frankly my life has gotten so much better and my work more meaningful. I used to work for a university based system and that shit got old very fucking quickly. Taking care of welfare bums, country trash, ghetto trash, and overall assholes, made my life miserable. I went through close to 14 years of training to take care of people that are quite frankly a waste of my time. Now my patients are civilized well educated and most importantly respectful. Work has become enjoyable again. This model (cash only) will become more and more prevalent in America. Basic economic principles show that intelligence and innovation go hand in hand with compensation. Another words, all the smart docs will go to private cash only medicine, while all the idiots like 240s friend doc, will be under the socialized system. Quite frankly, the average American is too stupid and too idiotic to even deserve decent health care. Next time you have appendicitis go pray to Jesus (like typical Americans) and see what he can do, when that fails, come to me we accept cash, check or credit.
By the way I am an American but America is no longer the free enterprise hard working country that it once was. It has turned into a welfare state that is run by either religious idiots who believe in fairy tales, or bleeding liberals who forget how quickly socialism can turn into facism. But this is an issue for another thread.

FUCK that. Our optometrists and dentists work like that.
You pay with cash or a credit card then you deal with the insurance company yourself.
As a user it sucks. I can see why you like it though.

You sound like a first-class asshole.
You're #1.
Your bedside manner is on par with Frank Burns.
Judging by your grammar and sophistication of thought, I'd say that you are a garbage man.

...you, my friend, are NOT a doctor.
Not with that spelling... not with that uneducated syntax... not with that poor grammar... not utilising those malapropisms.

Sorry I didn't now that having a degree in English leads to some credibility, but since man of you guys have brought this up, maybe I should scan my medical license, I think I will, depending on how much effort it takes. Regardless, it would be good to hear some educated retorts as opposed to insults. Then again, this is getbig and insults are all part of the entertainment. With that being said, do you not agree with me?

...seeing as you Americans elected a functionally illiterate retard president (twice!), I see no reason why another functionally illiterate American couldn't get a medical license... or at least an American medical license.
There is no hope here, "bodybuildermdpitt"... you owned yourself by claiming to be an MD yet being unable to write coherently (even with spellcheck).
If you do indeed post a scan of your license, I won't be owned... the AMA will.

If you want to pretend that you have some kind of education, you shouldn't expose your stupidity right away when you write a first sentences, because it shows that you are just another teen- idiot. Do you really think that in those countries, where health care is uphold by state, doctors work for free? In fact, in every western countries doctors are working for top dollars, never for free. Furthermore most countries have two health care systems, one funded by state, and another based on business, so you can work part time in a state hospital and part time in private practice. In Finland most doctors have two careers and they have great income by that. You guys doesn't understand that your system is just a scam to cash out, get as much dollars as possible by doing nothing more than selling insurances which doesn't guarantee nothing but which you must pay in regular bases. With state health care your doctors earn just as much as they do now, but your insurance companies (which you don't even need with state health care) will die. That is what they afraid, because there is billions involved in that business, and where is billions of dollars, there is greedy bastards to claim that money for themselves.
