I went to a pro show last year. The men's pro finals were pretty interesting, both the 202s and the Heavys. But yeah, I was really bored during the women's section of the show. There were dozens of competitors, they all did long routines. Just not my cup of tea. A lot of ppl in the crowd loved it. not my thing.

One person in 1000 people experience sudden cardiac death every year, and the risk increases during or shortly after exercise. Congenital defects (present at birth), such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) and abnormal arteries, account for most sudden deaths occurring in people under 35 years of age. Coronary artery disease is the most common cause in older people. Factors altering the normal chemical environment of the heart, such as severe dehydration and cocaine abuse, can trigger fatal heart rhythms. In a new report, researchers from the prestigious McGill University Health Center reported two cases of sudden death associated with low carbohydrate ketogenic diets. Both died from abnormal heart rhythms. The body produces ketones from fats during periods of low carbohydrate availability. While these diets promote weight loss, they are also associated with selenium depletion and an abnormal heart rhythm (prolonged QTc interval) that increase the risk of sudden death. Anyone on a ketogenic diet should take a 200mcg selenium supplement daily. Do not take more than this amount because selenium can lower IGF-1 and may also cause glucose intolerance. I would also recommend magnesium and the amino acid taurine which have been shown to prevent abnormal heart rhythms. I am also concerned with competitive bodybuilders on ketogenic diets that are taking diuretics and cutting drugs, such as thyroid (T3) and clenbuterol which can also cause abnormal heart rhythm. We need more research on the long-term benefits and risks of low carbohydrate ketogenic diets in the average population as well as in bodybuilders.

Hey, if selenium deficiencies (as a result of keto) are causing the suddent cardiac/stroke incidents we've been seeing in bodybuilding the last 3 years, it's VERY important that it's discussed. It could be the story of the year. It could save lives.
Jumbo is one of the smartest guys in the sport. If keto diets are causing heart damage, Jumbo will find ways to get guys in shape in other ways. I am sure he's more concerned about the lives of his fellow Bbers than any diet plan.

From what I can work out Tim (stay with me on this one ;D ) Billy transformed into a 6'4 middleweight granted that must have taken effort and Vince turning up to show after show with a pair of trunks, untrained/not dieted would have been the clincher for Ron Avidan.

I have never liked the female models featured in muscle mags. To me that was a waste of space that could have been used to report on contests, etc. The mag owners included the 'hot' models to sell more mags to adolescent males. I don't care to see the female bodybuilders, either. I would make an exception for a few of them like Iris Kyle.
While we are on beefs about MD, I wish they would stop using those drawings and have more photos. Did I say reduce the damn ad space! Bodybuilders are not that stupid that they believe that rubbish about supplements or are they? I used to buy all the musclemags for about 40 years and now I seldom buy any at all. John Grimek would be very disappointed with the current MD.

I have never liked the female models featured in muscle mags. To me that was a waste of space that could have been used to report on contests, etc. The mag owners included the 'hot' models to sell more mags to adolescent males. I don't care to see the female bodybuilders, either. I would make an exception for a few of them like Iris Kyle.
While we are on beefs about MD, I wish they would stop using those drawings and have more photos. Did I say reduce the damn ad space! Bodybuilders are not that stupid that they believe that rubbish about supplements or are they? I used to buy all the musclemags for about 40 years and now I seldom buy any at all. John Grimek would be very disappointed with the current MD.

Nowadays they are overrun with crap supplement ads, strange looking musclemen and even stranger looking females. Gone are the good old days when you were healthy because you lifted weights. I couldn't defend bodybuilding today if I tried. Well, except for the fair dinkum naturals.

I injured my leg (dropped 220 kgs on my leg from squat machine). The leg turned from functioning leg to "wood leg" overnigth. Hope this helps. :)
PS. The leg was quite painful to put it mildly. I recall yelling at univ hospital nurse to give a SHITLOAD of STRONGEST painkillers she can find. Then she injected them on my both triceps.. I went to a pro show last year. The men's pro finals were pretty interesting, both the 202s and the Heavys. But yeah, I was really bored during the women's section of the show. There were dozens of competitors, they all did long routines. Just not my cup of tea. A lot of ppl in the crowd loved it. not my thing.
IFBB needs to make the women classes more sexual overall IMO.
Mandatory thongs and less mandatory poses and more striptease sexually oriented free posing.

The safety lock of the squat machine wasnt compelely locked but I noticed it like 0.1 sec too late so teh rack with 220 kgs of iron dropped on my leg.. I had no enough time to step back.. >:( The problem with that particular brand of squat machine is that you cannot see if the lock is OK with your own eyes.. A guy standing on the other side of the rack yelled" "Its NOT LOCKED!!!".. and then.. OUTCH!

Yep, I was explaining my opinion that carbohydrates are needed in a diet as its the preferred source of energy your body needs. Minute I said that, Romano started yelling at me, I responded in my usual style and he banned me until March.
I didn't think it was fair since Romano started trash talking me first but I only advertise in MD, I could care less about its discussion forums.
I also did notice that they referred to Isopure as a high quality whey protein powder which I would find pretty insulting considering that Isopure is nothing but pure protein. It mixes clear in a glass which pretty much settles it. Only a true protein isolate would mix clear

Kid, I’ve been here in LA since Sunday with a busy schedule from Monday-Friday. I shot for Muscle & Fitness, Reps, Muscle Mag, Planet Muscle, IFM and a few other magazines. All these shoots where set up 3 months in advance win or lose. Shit, I haven’t won a show in over 17 years and all the mags are still willing to shoot for me. Unbelievably I pay you guys $3000.00 dollars a months for advertising with no plugs, supporting articles or complimentary ads. All the other mags are giving me free plugs and even IronMan put me on their cover without ever having to spend a dime. Who do you think my money is going to next time?

Let me make it clear that from DAY ONE when Dave not Steve called me and asked if I was interested in working with HIM at the shows for MD. I said yes and for the simple reason that I was always looking for a way to show Dave I truly appreciated his help since we became friends and this was my chance to finally give back to a man that gives so much....I didn't do it for the money that is for damn sure but more for the fact that I was able to repay Dave for all his help as a friend. DAVE and I worked hours that by law would probably be considered unconstitutional but we both have a strong work ethic. We would work close to 72 hours straight covering the shows ans if we slept 2 to 3 hours a night that was like winning the lottery for us.Many of nights after the finals on Saturdays we would work on all the material until 2 or 3 am and not sleep and rush to catch the 6 am flight home and then finally by sunday night we could start to get some sleep but from Thursday til Sunday it was NO SLEEP

Steve could have went the route like many others to explain why he feels a carb diet is great but instead he tries desperatley to find evey angle to attack a keto diet in indirectly in his own way attacking Dave and its wrong. Dave has been a friend for awhile now and he dosent need someone who gathers info based on average overweight joe and compare it to a bodybuilder and say that it wont work or it will kill you ???

I read all the things Blechman wrote.What he doesn't understand is that there are multiple way's to go to Rome. A Ketogenic diet and a more higher carb diet. Both diets work. Blechman tries desperatly to bash the ketogenic way by trying to find med.reports in which a: a higher carb diet is "better" and b: ketogenic diets are dangerous (possible death).
That's no way to debate a subject.
What i don't understand is that Blechman is trying to put up a lot of these med. reports which aren't really representable for dieting for an bodybuildingshow. And second of all Dave's experience and results speak for themselves. What experience has Blechman has? Exactly, jackshit.

A very low-carb diet improves blood lipids, while certain oral ASS have adverse effects on blood lipids (eg lowered HDL, i.e., the "good cholesterol"). ASS injections have little if any effects on blood lipids. Testosterone is the safest.
