I thought I would mix it up on the G&O by posting something related to bodybuilding.
I had a 1.5 year layoff with no training, and eating 1 or two meals a day of garbage food. I'm currently in week 11, but this is the progress I made in the first 8 weeks. I wanted to see what I could accomplish in a short time with 100% dedication.
It's interesting to note that in 8 weeks I only did 22 weight workouts, but ate 330 meals.
6 meals each day, Protein powder after weight workout only, and protein source is either chicken, Beef, or Deer meat (while I can still get it).
Training DC style with the 2-day split, Mon-Wed-Fri
Weight went from 200 lbs to 225 lbs.

Thank you, I am pleased as well. My diet is very low in carbs, and I was doing 4-4.5 hours of cardio every week in addition to the weight training.
I don't want to carry the extra fat and bloat. I am no longer concerned with holding a certain bodyweight or caring how big my arms are. I want the largest LEAN physique I can carry. I am still working on reducing bodyfat further with increased cardio and a few adjustments to diet.

Just over 600g carbs per week, not counting the trace carbs in the vegtables I eat with every meal.

your ignorant. 25 lbs in 8 weeks is phenomenal. even on steroids. ESPECIALLY for with about zero fat gain.

Low carb does not mean low calorie. I get 300g of protein from 3lb of meat each day, and I take in the rest of my necessary calories with healthy fats.

yup. dont need carbs tO gain muscle. in fact, might even gain muscle a bit bette without the carbs (exept for around the workout)
-

you gotta be eating alot of fat then cause when i eat 100g carbs and 300g protein that = only 2000cals
-

I dunno, I've always made my best gains in the +500 carb range.
-
I prefer a lower carb diet. I've found that when I eat carbs I just feel fat and generally shitty :-\
-
300g protein = 1200 calories + hidden fat (10% of meat maybe) + maybe 300 calories or more
so let say 1500 from meat
fat 9 cals per gram ...but most have hidden carsb and proteins..
probably needs 3500 cals.. thats 2000 cals of fat... 222 grams of fat..
but you dont really need all that fgat...cuz the body could use body fat instead of digested fat when going low carb.. it doesnt work the same way as a high carb diet where you deifitely need more carbs than you burn..
-

Right on...
Only carbs I am having now are postworkout simple sugars followed by Oats the meal after.
Carbs make me fat and also retain alot of water which hides definition and just makes life uncomfortable.
A bodybuilding diet of low carb/high fat is new for me, but seems to be working great so far. I'm curious to see how things progress with my fat/muscle ratio.

very good interview with scott coneely.
discusses if protain and fat or protein and carbs is better.
around the workout carbs are needed, other times fats and proteins much better.
according to him.
and i listen to him since hes basically the leadiing expert in bodybuilding nutrtion.
anyway, i agree tho, on a carb/protein diet, you definitely need alot of carbs. not just a measily 100 or 200 grams. 500 or s is much better. just making sure to keep fats minimal beause thats hat will make you fat with carbs..fat..not carbs.
-
I don't have any carbs before my weight workout. At first it seemed weird, because you ALWAYS read "simple sugars before workout".
There is a strong argument to be made that the body converts protein to glucose to fuel a weight workout, and simple sugars are burned during longer duration activity, like marathon running, etc. So for the bodybuilder struggling with staying lean, there is no reason to have sugar pre-workout.

the body cannot convert protein into glucose at a fast enough rate to fuel weight training. you need glycogen, or glucose during training.

Yep, plus the water gain you get from them just makes things harder on your body.
-

I'm not taking any in, only the trace amount in veg, and nat peanut butter before doing weights. So what is my body burning during my weight training?
-

How much fat do you think is needed and how low carb do you have to be for the fat not turning into fat ?
would you call this a keto type diet or low carb? ...most low carb diets i've seen are low fat.

not even healthy fats? egg yolks some kinda oil ??

i think he's a bit arrogant looking

if you listen to that link, connely says that if you follow a zero carb diet with high protein, your body can manufacture glycogen from amino acids. you are probably getting glycogen still, and your using that for energy.
anyway your dieting, so you dont need the sugar pre and intra workout, as long as youe got glycogen.
you said you were eating carbs post workout?

you dont need to much dietary fat to burn body fat. a handful of nuts maybe twice a day. some whole eggs.
when i say low carb, i mean zero starch, milk sugar, or fructose. so basically only trace carsbs and carbs from veggies.
not even healthy fats? egg yolks some kinda oil ??
personally i wouldnt recommend eating any extra fat when goin high carb. maybe just soem fish oils at night with some evening primrose oil.
-
good job if it was a drug free transformation... if not,, who cares...

OK 0 starch to me = keto diet
If you would increase starch to 50-100g then would that dietary fat intake turn to fat?
you like keto more than low carb(startch) now?
personally i wouldnt recommend eating any extra fat when goin high carb. maybe just soem fish oils at night with some evening primrose oil.
ok i read chris aceto recommends some healthy fats with a hi carb diet.

One thing I wasn't happy about during my time off was that my ass went flat, and I know chicks DEFINITELY dig a nice round ass on a guy. A few weeks of squats brings it right back though. ;)

maybe "stormshadow" only goes to the gym to hang out in the men's locker room, MOS, cause he sure ain't lifting weights with that pathetic body.

;D
I think Stormshadow has given himself a little too much credit. :-[
Here is the normalized comparison of Stormshadow's before and after, which is now accurate. This was made by overlaying the after photo with 20% transparency on top of the before photo and sizing off the reference point of the distance between his ears (which is a constant of course). This sizing also agrees in comparison of knee, waist and shorts dimensions.
Although the after appears shorter now, this is due to the change in his posing- further arched back and more deeply bent knees.
