I want to get a general idea of who here supports and who opposes the war on drugs. I'm going to list several notable illegal drugs and I want everyone to tell me whether or not they believe that they should available for recreational purposes (without prescription) to adults.
A simple "Yes" or "No" after each drug listed. If you want to give details, be brief.
Should Marijuana be available to adults without a prescription? Yes or No?
Anabolic Steroids?
Opium?
Pain killers?
LSD?
Alcohol?
Nicotine?
Cocaine?
Coca leaves (not processed into Cocaine)?
Hallucinogenic plants?
Psychoactive plants beside marijuana, coca and poppy?
Heroin?
Human Growth hormone?
-
If people can go to their "Dr." and get drugs that are dangerous, (Oxycontin, etc...) than they should be able to get drugs like Marijuana.
The war on Drugs is a huge waste...
Who's the guy in your avatar?

Who's the guy in your avatar?
Some old guy. ;D
-
the 'war on drugs' has been one of the most wasteful, futile, destructive things in mankinds history.
legalize all that shit, we will see a brief spike in usage, then the novelty will soon wear off and then usage will decline dramatically in the long run, cartels/gangs/gang violence etc.. will lose power overnight, violence will decrease throughout latin america, governents will stabilize, the US wont spend billions on efforts to stop harmless things like weed, millions of kids wont face prison for harmless things, fewer cops will get killed, robberies/violent crime will decrease, the list goes on and on.
-
It's a vote. Put "yes" or "no" next to the drugs listed.

I PUT WHATEVER I WANT WHEREEVR I WANT

I just really don't know the answer.
From what I've seen more people are hurt by prescription drugs and alcohol than stuff like Marijuana though.
-
Nah, I think we should continue the hypocritical stance of allowing people to get plasterd on booze and get cancer from cigarettes, while banning everything else.
-
I don't know if I have a definite opinion on every one of those drugs but I wouldn't necessarily lump them all together.
Cocaine--probably shouldn't be legal. LSD and heroin, I dunno, probably also not. Pot--probably should, as should steroids.
But I would have to agree with Bindare_Dundat about alcohol and tobacco--legal or not, they've destroyed far more lives than many of the illegal drugs mentioned.
The older I get the more I see that the war on drugs is a losing battle and it seems more prudent to legalize some or all of them and let them fall under the same gov't regulations as do tobacco and alcohol.
-
All should be legal as long as drinking and smoking are legal.

Should Marijuana be available to adults without a prescription? Yes or No? No
Anabolic Steroids? No
Opium? No
Pain killers? Yes, however stronger dosages should be under prescription as well as those who causes addiction
LSD? No
Alcohol? Yes.
Nicotine? No.
Cocaine? No
Coca leaves (not processed into Cocaine)? No
Hallucinogenic plants? No
Psychoactive plants beside marijuana, coca and poppy? No
Heroin? No
Human Growth hormone? No
I definitely would like to see tobacco made illegal, as that has caused a lot of pain for many people.
-
No, to everything but alcohol but I believe that guys should be able to get steroids and HGH just as easily as botox, lipo and all the other shit that women do. It's the same thing and if it's under Dr. supervision then they are really not doing any harm to the human body...not like heroin and all the other drugs.
-
First, the war on drugs have been a big waste of $ overall.
Should Marijuana be available to adults without a prescription? Yes, but penalties for driving or working under the influence. Treat exactly like alcohol.
Anabolic Steroids? Yes, by Rx from a doctor. I am ok with them being illegal but never a felony or jail time. Thats absurd. Misdemenor only.
Opium? No, not pure opium. We have opium based narcotics already prescribed
Pain killers? Only by prescription.
LSD? No, never
Alcohol? Yes, current laws are acceptible.
Nicotine? Yes, current laws are acceptible
Cocaine? No, never. (there are better vasoconstrictors)
Coca leaves (not processed into Cocaine)? I'm not sure of the effects and differences from cocaine.
Hallucinogenic plants? No
Psychoactive plants beside marijuana, coca and poppy? No
Heroin? No
Human Growth hormone? Yes, via Rx (and they need to let doctors do more research on low dose use for healing complicated ortho injuries). If possession outside of a Rx, should be a misdemenor.

I'm all for letting people kill themselves through smoking, drinking or whatever. Weed should be legalized as it's really not much different from the others. However, I think we'd be seeing an increase in road fatalities if all these drugs were legalized. I know my reaction time is severely limited when I'm high. I don't need some cracked out junkie smashing head on into me.
-
I don't think road fatalities would be increased much. The people that smoke pot more than on a rare occasion probably drive anyway. People that would use rarely are probably responsible enough not to drive.
We need a roadside THC test like the breath alcohol test. If we had that, I'll bet legalizing pot would be easier. Personally, I don't care cause I don't smoke pot, but it is no more dangerous than alcohol...probably less dangerous overall.
-
like i said you would see an initial spike in accidents as use of these formerly illegal drugs spikes at first due to them being a newly available novelty...at first people would buy some cocaine at wallmart just to try it, just because they can, etc..but in the long term use of the bad stuff would drop off to a tiny fringe of sick people and accidents would actually decrease below current levels probably.
its like alcohol in europe; its always available to people, so kids dont grow up thinking its 'cool' waiting till they get old enough then go crazy binge drink and drive everywhere. alcohol ABUSE is much more common especially among youths in america than in europe because over there they grow up used to it and its not really a big deal, i think the same thing would apply to other more hardcore drugs, if legal it would remove the 'glamorous/rebellious/dangerously appealing' aspect of them and they would become viewed as dirty and stupid and thjose who used would be looked down upon instead of glamorized.

All the ones i said should be illegal should carry far stiffer and severe penalties for use, sale and distribution.
All the ones i said should be legal should carry stiffer penalties for driving under the influence (except cigs, HGH) with a very severe penalty for 2nd offenses in a 1 year time period
Also, except for beer, there should be ZERO advertising allowed in any type of media.
-
The fact that HGH is treated like a criminal activity is absurd. We restrict substances mostly because they pose significant danger to the user or to others around the user. I guess there are some psychoactive properties of anabolic steroids but not for HGH. Besides the theoretical increased risk of cancer at high doses, there are no major issues and certainly no criminal related issues with HGH... at all. It doesn't effect behavior and if anything mildly increases well-being if used as replacement in individuals who are deficient.
-
I understand the mind altering substances...but why are so many of you against steroids without a 'script? Why shouldn't a grown man be able to go to the pharmacy and ask for a bottle of test? I think that is how it should be controlled. Tax it, and keep it under lock and key, and also no media advertising. What's the difference between steroids and alcohol or nicotine? Seems kind of hypocritical. Just my .02

I was referring more towards the coke heads and people on psychedelic drugs driving. There's a picture of some retards driving through a crowd of bicyclists in Mexico after a weekend long coke and booze binge. Bodies flying everywhere.

The PROBLEM I see in this thread is that people tend to want the drugs that they use legal but the drugs that they have never used or know nothing about to remain illegal.
LSD is in fact non-toxic and the only harm from it is due to accidents occuring from it. It has a lot of potential for psychological or psychotherapy uses. It increases insight and can induce religious experiencs in people. All of this and it should be illegal...Why? Because some people might abuse it and cause accidents while using it?
Coca leaves are in fact quite mild compared to Cocaine. The ancient INCAs have been using it for literally centuries before Europeans ever came. They chewed it or brewed it into coffee to improve their mood, give them energy, etc. The addiction rate for Coca chewing is essentially nil, and you don't see any Incan crackheads.
Poppy is already used and, while being illegal, is almost never enforced. Opium Poppy is grown for cooking and decorations, and any opium produced from it is generally very mild compared to synthesized or purified forms such as Morphine.
Psychoactive plants would include Coffee, Ephedra, Betel nut, Ephedra, Khat, Tobacco, Kava Kava, Guarana (used in many energy drinks), Salvia Divinorum, Etc. NONE of these plants have any real harmful effects except for Tobacco. People generally get paranoid when the word "Psychoactive" is brought up but this is only because they are ignorant of its meaning. Essentially ALL psychoactive plants have little harmful side effects and small potential for abuse if used as they are.
HGH should be available to anyone as long as a doctor is present. Medical or not. Same with Steroids.
Remember...People have the right to put WHATEVER they want into their bodies as long as it does not NECESSARILY harm anyone else. The fact that it "might" cause harm for bystanders is not a just cause to rob people of their free will to ingest whatever they want however they want.
Ab abusu ad usum non valet consequentia!
Inferences regarding something's use from its misuse are invalid. Rights abused are still rights.
-
they should all be legal.has them being illegal stopped the ones that chose to use them from doing so?
-
For the record...Everything I listed should be legal.
Problems will indeed arise from them being legal, but more problems exist from them being illegal. If you don't want someone to use a substance, outlawing it is the WORST thing that can be done. Prohibition taught us that.
Some people never learn form history.

Coca leaves (not processed into Cocaine)? NO
???
As far as I know they're almost completely harmless?
-
???

Coca leaves are quite harmless. MOST psychoactive plants are quite harmless unless used in copious amounts all day (like tobacco smokers do).
Chewing Coca leaves would be great before a gym work out. Elevates mood, gives energy, increases mental awareness and insight, increases strength. Addiction is very rare and any habit for it is very mild when it does exist. Nothing like Cocaine. It's a natural plant.
-
I probably don't know enough about making cocaine, but i figured that if the leaves are available what is to stop someone from making full on coke?
-
Or heroin from opiates. I think some people also forget that at one time(the opiate wars) 1/3 of the Chinese were addicted to some type of opiate. While not necessarily harmful to others per se it is as a societal problem.
-

Not much. Cocaine is so freely available right now that's it's comical that anyone would want to outlaw coca plants on the basis that cocaine might result from it.
While we're at it, let's outlaw Rye bread because LSD might be made from it.
-
It really upsets me when people hear the word "psychoactive" and instantly think "bad" or "dangerous" or other negative emotions they associate with it.
The term PSYCHOACTIVE only means that the plant changes the way people think or feel. That's it. Tobacco, Coffee, Guarana, etc. all included.
There are tons of very benign and safe psychoactive plants in the world, used traditionally for THOUSANDS of years.
Human beings have a the right to put whatever they want into their bodies, as long as it doesn't necessarily harm other people. This is especially true of natural plants.
Any country that throws people in prison over growing, selling or smoking a PLANT is NOT A FREE COUNTRY.

I love LSD and shrooms

I love LSD and shrooms
LSD has tons of potential for psychological or psychotherapy benefits if used under control of a medical professional. It also has a lot of potential for changing people's outlook on life, from negative to positive. Someone with a totally negative and sad outlook on life can use LSD one time and have a renewed outlook.
Mushrooms are much milder and have also been used for THOUSANDS of years traditionally.
People who use these plants just to get "Fucked up" or "Wasted" will only get negative results from them.
People who use the plants to increase insight, enhance life, improve their wellbeing or worldviews usually get positive results from it.

It's not easy to make LSD from rye. (You are aware that LSD is created from Ergot on Rye bread, aren't you?)
It's also not easy to make cocaine hydrochloride from Coca plants. Of course, if given the opportunity, there will be people who will make Cocaine from them, but it won't make a difference. Cocaine is already freely and easily available and legalizing the plant itself would not likely make any real difference.

I have never done an illegal drug in my life, but greatly disagree about waging a "war" on drugs.
In name of this war the govt has usurped many freedoms and has nothing whatever to show for it.
This "war" only causes our taxes to go up and keep many people in jail who have no business there.
It also has greatly contributed to the gang problems.

Never knew that.
I've leaned towards legalizing it all. Just have a hard time with some of the hard core drugs because of what I've seen it do to people.
No argument as to the availability.

Once all of these things are LEGALIZED the populace that indulges will no longer have to get it through nefarious means...thereby eliminating drug dealers, runners, fake drugs, as well as freeing up the wasteful spending of imprisoning people at a cost of 75,000 per person per year. Also gets rid of the massive number of bullshit cops who also peddle drugs heavily in america. I do believe that even with legalization a criteria has to be enforced. For example drugs will be purchased at DRUG SHOPS and all of it must be used while in the shop at the time of purchase. NO SMOKING WEED WHILE WALKING THE STREETS, SITTING IN MOVIE THEATRES, AT SPORTS STADIUMS OR EVENTS/CONCERTS etc etc
-

Thanks to america and europe both God forsaken nations tried to get the Chinese addicted to Opium in order to conquer China, however the Chinese government at the time saw through america's game and slammed the door on drug importation and saved China from an assured destruction.
