Title: dating question serious thread
Post by: NaturalWonder83 on January 28, 2009, 06:18:50 PM
i am going on a date this weekend w/ a girl i met

my question is about my car
right now my car is flithy...its coated in filth so thick i can draw things in the filth w/ my fingers
i have bags of water bottles and old nasty shaker cups in the back seat
and i have a big pile of clothes in the back and front seat

when i pick her up in my car-how clean should it be?
i know to clean out the inside-but should i vacumm like a madman and polish the dashboard w/ those wipes? use air freshner tree? get the outside washed?

my concern is that she will notice that my car looks like it was washed and that will seem kinda dorky? like im going out of my way to impress her?
am i crazy?
please help

Nothing wrong with a clean car. I am very fussy with my car and it is always spotless.

But be yourself, natural. If you don't normally clean your car, then don't do it. She will accept you for who you are.....not what you do.

no problem

you may not smell it or you may be used to it, my truck constantly either smelled like chocolate protein powder or nasty ass shaker neither one really bothered me and i didnt really notice but when ppl got in my truck they would always say "whats that smell?" LOL so better safe then sorry.

Avoid being in the car as much as possible. Even if "clean" by previous standards, it sounds like a pile of shyte that cleaning ain't gonna completely erase. That will reflect badly on you.

Wash the damn car  >:(
It won't look any more dorky than taking a shower and wearing clean clothes.

Disagree.
Totally disrespectful if she gets into a dirty car - especially the inside.

You have got to clean up:  your life!

Your car sounds (not surprisingly) like the apartment/bedroom you described.  Remember, the one with bed bugs, the one that was “very cluttered and had forks and receipts and an empty peanut butter jar or 2 on it and a lot of spilled protein powder.”  How can you live like that?  What kind of woman do you think is going to stick around for that sort of thing?  I bet you have a lot of first dates—and that’s all.

Clean the inside of your car!  It should be spotless; anything you have to have in your car can be placed in the trunk (out of sight).  The exterior of the car should be washed as well; preferably on the same day that you pick her up.  If your date is Saturday night then wash it Saturday afternoon so it has plenty of time to dry.  Do not go from the car wash straight to pick her up.

Have you been laundering your sheets regularly?  If it is really a bother you can get away with washing them every other week, but it absolutely should not go any longer than that.

Good luck with your date.

thanks for the advice bay-im hoping to get my apartment cleaned up this weekend...ive cleaned up a bit and can      actually see my rugs in some areas- i have a few garbage bags filled with bottles and protein jugs ready for the trash soon

i vaccumed my car today after work and used the wipes on the dash and door jams

i stuffed the clothes in my trunk and threw out the shaker cups and bottles-right now my trunk is completely packed full-no more room for anything-i found a few bags of old sushi i left in there one time so i got rid of them they smelled funky-i had to get some febreeze to spray on the stuff in my trunk cuz it reeked in there-so my next mission is to clean that out

im gonna get it washed sat around 2 i think-and then my date is alter in the evening

i havent gotten a chance to wash my sheets since the last time i washed them cuz ive been hectic with work and stuff-but im hoping to get them washed by early next week

thanks again everyone for the advice

Why is there so much crap in (the trunk of) your car?  Why? ???  Unless you have specific, temporary, cause to be transporting something like groceries, equipment, boxes, etc. there should be nothing in the trunk of your car save, perhaps, an emergency/first aid kit, a quart of oil, an ice scraper, or something similar.

I have an ex who owns a couple apartment buildings.  He told me that years ago he was given a tip when taking applications from prospective tenants: whenever possible, meet them in person and at the end of the conversation walk them out to their car.  Look at their car very carefully—especially the interior.  Is the interior clean or dirty?  Is it cluttered with junk, trash, etc. or is it pristine?  The way the person keeps the interior of their car is an exact mirror of the way they will keep their home.

If the car’s interior was dirty or unkempt, he would invent a reason to deny their rental application.

When my ex first told me this, I was very dubious.  But then I began to test his theory among my friends, family, colleagues, people I knew, etc.  I would look at the interior of their car and then I would inspect their home.  It was true!

The way someone keeps the interior of their car is the same way they keep their home.

All these years later, I continue to make this observation when I have cause to be in someone’s car and home; it is still true.

Food for thought.  8)
