-
23rd degree black belt in Rex Kwon Do.
-
I have a phd in street
-
Phd... player hatin degree.
-
I will have a BA in accounting by this fall and a minor in economics.
Not exactly a great time to be a graduate. I might as well consider grad school.
-
Bachelor of science - communications.
Major - Public Relations.
-
I'm currently in school getting a business major, and journalism major.
-

Depends. If your skills are good....you may get a job wearing more hats than you planned for, but getting great pay. In times like this, many companies are looking to fire the old whales, get leaner and hand out their responsibilities to lower payed, hungry, young guns. This economy has done wonders for me. Every time my company ax's some old geezer (who does nothing) I benefit.

I heard that back in 1999. If you could do anything at that time - even simple html coding - you worked and made good $. then when the economy started to suck, that's what ppl should go back to school.
-
any business majors?
soon to be, why?
-
I have an MBA, a teaching degree, and an AS in computer networking.
A few of the ppl that I went to grad school with don't have jobs right now.
I work - seriously - 4 or 5 part time jobs. websites, music, writing, and more.
I can't imagine being dependent upon a single firm for your primary source of income in an environment where so many firms are closing. I heard yesterday that cali had a 10% unemployment rate right now. insane.

It's much harder getting recruited out of school into a public accounting firm even with a high GPA. Sure you can get a staff accounting position at a small firm, but a Big Four firm is out of your grasp unless you rode the economic wave last year or had good prior experience.
For entry level workers, government positions are coming into play more than ever, and even grad school just to meet the new CPA exam eligibility requirements.

Companies are getting leaner and meaner. If you have skills and you are valuable you still have a job in most cases. It's like cutting the fat of chicken. Places like California and Florida are going to be affected more than places like Boston and New York.

Whats your yearly income from all these jobs, Rob. Above 75 or no?
-
How much money do you make per year Rob?
not enough.

Obama actually came to my city - lee county FL - cause our unemployment levels are so bad. Everything here was built on construction and tourism. Both are very very dead at the moment.

I guess you are right.. Despite the doomsday prophecies in the news, most of the people I know are still employed and living fine, they're just a bit cautious about spending money.

Why not take the public job, kick ass for a year, then walk into one of the "big four" with a kick ass resume and tons of real world experience. They are just itching to can Bob the 40 year vet who plays computer games all day while avoiding his job. They can pay you 10% less and generate 30% more production.

Agreed. States like your are always going to be hit hardest by times like this. However, your business is perfect for this. I suspect your sales are up? Advertising is most important in times like this and websites are a must. Can't beat a complete website for 300 bucks.

Associates degree in Culinary arts from Johnson and Wales University. Graduated at the head of my class.
Grande Diplome Le Cordon Bleu. Again Graduated at the head of my class.
Saw those two pastry Chefs from Johnson and Wales on food network yesterday. A bread competition/pastry competition? Two bald guys. One white one black. Their shit was amazing. I played sports for a school a stones throw away from you for a semester before I transfered up to Boston. Lets just say I spent many nights at "the bar"when I was 18, ha-ha!
-
bs in finance...going to wall street to make money >:(

business degrees are only for people who have no idea what they want to do, and are forced to declare a major.
bench
-
Double major, Economics and Sociology
sociology was just for fun
-

bench
Business Administration yes, but Accounting takes half a brain and I dunno about finance.. Most people good at finance aren't even finance majors.
I'd finance/accounting with emphasis on actuarial math is the hardest business major. Actuaries are smart mofos.

Bench is a cop and I don't think he likes people who say, "I was going to be a cop, but I decided to finish High school instead."
As for me, I am 2 subjects shy of getting a Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental) and 3 subjects (+ a thesis) shy of getting a Bachelor of Applied Science (Molecular Biology). However, I've been kicked out of 4 universities in 2 different countries, not to mention I have commitment issues, so I'm going to have to settle for being one of those college dropouts who are still successful in life.
A degree gives you a certain amount of insurance and also elevates your social profile, but you don't HAVE to have degrees to be successful in life, no matter what you use for measuring success. Bottom line, if you are fiercely independent and hard working, with a decent mental capacity, you can do great regardless of whether you are educated or not.

Why did you get kicked out?
I can imagine commitment being a huge issue with hard shit like that.
-
Why did you get kicked out?
Ah, that's a long story ;D

Joint Honours Degree in Sport Science and Social Psychology. Graduated in 1999 and haven't used it for anything since.
-

Yup, crazy hard major. I have a friend who is a mechanical nuclear engineer. Got his degree at Umass Lowell which has a great engineering program.
I used to live right across the Charles from MIT and the kids they have going there are incredibly smart. Between them and Harvard you have some of the greatest minds in the country being primed within 2 miles of each other. Crazy shit.
-
In broomsticks mind he has a degree in sports nutrition.

did u know dr navarro when she was at MIT?
-
Every degree has its value... of course there are some that are tougher than others,
in my opinion engineering is somewhat tougher than business and management degrees,
but of course its all up to the individual on how he uses it after he graduates..
-
got my major in asswhippin and a minor in being badass
-
Joint Honours Degree in Sport Science and Social Psychology. Graduated in 1999 and haven't used it for anything since.
You raise a point i was waiting to see if anyone else had asked yet. How many of you that have degrees actually work in the specific fields you studied in?
I know and come across so many people with degrees and PhDs who do nothing whatsoever related to their studies.
Me, i have a BSc hons in Zoology. I waited 5 years after i graduated to actually use it though. (and no, i don't work in a zoo)
-
I will have a BA in accounting by this fall and a minor in economics.
Not exactly a great time to be a graduate. I might as well consider grad school.
I'm also graduating next fall with a BA in accounting. What is your game plan for certification? With the 150 hour requirement for the CPA exam it only seems logical to go to grad school. I'm considering the CMA just so I don't have to go another 2 semesters, however I'd make a lot more money as a CPA but probably have to work "brutal" overtime often.
-
BA in DooDoology
-
At home dad? Good job
no, childcare lol!
wouldnt call it a degree though, but education maby lol

Does it ever bother you that some people think that just because you have a degree in Zoology, you work in a Zoo? I have encountered many people who also think that Engineers, "Are the runs who run the choo choo trains." I may have lived in too many states and met alot of dummies.
-

No. I justed jogged the campus. I'm not smart enough to rub elbows with those people. M.I.T students are stupid smart.

Pics of you wearing bright red lipstick and glasses, holding a 9"+ pipette in your right hand while your left is holding on to your open labcoat revealing nothing but black lace lingerie underneath, all while you are sitting on top of a centrifuge machine capable of at least 3000 RPMs, with one leg bent about the knee or I'm calling bullshit

Japanese studies have 50-60% dropout in the first year, and the people that finish it are limited as well. Out of the 70sth people that started in my class, only three got the MA. ;D ;D
Marine science is wonderful though, the world needs way more of these people than we have.

Medicine. I'm going back to study next year for a masters in surgery.

In New York state the 150 hour rule comes into law starting August 1, 2009. I'll be finishing up by July and will officially graduate in September. I will be eligible under the old undergrad rules. I've confirmed it with the state, and I've just got to finish up by June and fill out form 1 of the application and have it approved before August 1. Still not ruling out grand school though.
-
Bachelor's in Human Services here and a Masters in Social Services...I'm a school counselor and math teacher
