Yeah, Sergio was the man back in the day. I'd certainly love to have that physique ! Btw, Beckles couldn't have been 78 years old in that pic ... more like 50-something or so. Do you have proof, Dr. ?

You're right that was taken in the 80s I believe he was in his 50s which is still insane

crazy thing about that pic is that i remember being totally blown away by it when i first saw it in like 1993 but over the years bodybuilders have gotten so damn massive that it doesn't impress me any more. :-\

That is exactly my thoughts. I remember seeing it in Rick Waynes 'Muscle Wars' (decent book, by the way) and thinking WTF! but now while it is still impressive it does not have the WOW factor

Sergio was like Nasser ( like to put his hands on women ) she got sick of it and used his own sidearm to shoot him ( he was a cop ) now thinking about it I think she shot him in the gut , hmmmmmm maybe he did tear his tri ???

I beleive he slipped on ice whilst on duty and reached out to support his fall tearing his tricep..this is what he said in an old muscle mag star profile..And yes I think he did take one in the gut when his wife shot him..

I heard a story about sergio taking a small calibur round to the pec.... and because of the density / thickness and small cal bullet..... docs just went in and pulled it out.... bb'n saved his life.....
funny in regards to a post above about sergio & nasser liking to put their hands on their women.....
thought a nice fact to be into our sport was to have the strength to keep our loved ones safe. guess some "guys" just have different views. shame

He was shot in his right arm in Cuba, you can see the scars if you look closely.

Absolutely; Draper was humungous around 1970 now he looks slim in comparison. That pool room shot of Sergio was the last word in massiveness in the 70s now it's not as awesome as it once was which didn't seem possible.
Never heard about any gym injuries just the gunshot wounds.

i've never liked him in this pose. it looks like he's only 3/4 hitting the pose, and has no peak at all. no doubt his arms are huge, but i think his biceps were too long
