Reason I'm asking because some people don't know shit about gaining muscle mass. Some people think you have to be lean and have visible abs to gain muscle mass, which I think is fucking retarded. Can a pro or somebody educated answer this please?

abs > everything else, FTW
Agreed. I can't build mass when cutting and getting thin. But i'd much rather have abs then add a little mass. There will always be people bigger than me, but i can look better than everyone else at the gym if i get cut.
-
yes you can. You can also lose fat and buikld muscle at the same time.
I am by no means ripped. But have abs year round and am gaining
-
9-10% while gain muscle is very doable IMO
-
Yes u can
-
Hahaha monster thread backfire for the obese CastIron.

I went to the gym early today and there were a ton of hot girls, and all i could think was these bitches could give a shit if i upped my bench from 305 to 315, but if they were walking by and I used my shirt to wipe my face and revealed a perfect set of abs they'd get wet as hell.

next time use some gym bunny's inner thigh to wipe your face off

ofcourse you can, you don't have to become obese to gain muscle
if you want to have a huge LBM all you have to do is eat your ass off and get fatter than holly hell
you don't even have to workout
Sumo wrestlers have more LBM than bodybuilders
once if ever you do get lean you will disappear, you will keep the muscle, it was there because you were so fat
you'll be lucky if you don't have any loose skin
look at this woman, she is beating you in your own "criteria" and she has never touched a weight ROFLMAO!

Are we indeed talking muscles here? I call monster bullshit.

it's not that hard, if you want 250 pounds of lean mass just eat yourself to 450 pounds
lol

Love to hate, pathetic lol. I always think why hardly no IFBB pros post here. Maybe one or two, the most I've seen that post on Getbig is Chick. People on Getbigs a joke.

Many years ago the top trainers among competitive bodybuilders would advise that you drop your bodyfat way low prior to adding muscle mass.
That seemed to work well back then but then Larry Scott game on the competitive bodybuilding scene and "blew up" to a bulky, off-season, bodywt exceeding 15 - 20% of his competitive weigh and everyone else seemed to follow.
I'm not too positive about this but I kind of recall that Larry Scott first took his bodywt way beyond his competitive wt beginning around 1963/64 and it worked well for him, and that was the beginning of the pre-planned, off season, bulked up phase for competitive bodybuilders.
If any old-fart GetBigger was actually there and witnessed this "new" way to prep back then .... your pro or con comments would be appreciated. I tend to recall that Larry was the start of it all back then.
BTW ... Great question, Cast!

Did you know that sumo wrestlers generally have more muscle mass then natural bodybuilders? Caloric intake is key to muscle growth, clean or dirty.
And keep in mind, this advice is generally not for seasoned lifters. They know what works for them. I run into many lifting newbs on forums who swear they are eating enough and simply can't gain muscle or weight.
-
Bulking for a natural is absolutely pointless
any great natural will tell you this, you will be a fat mess and skinny fat when you diet down
-

Ok so you're seriously suggesting that it's all about caloric intake and not hormonal levels?

NO, you are not getting my point my friend
all I said was if you want something like a 250 pound LBM eat yourself so fat you can't even move
once you get down it wont be there and you will be left with extra skin
all these people think their fat is muscle lmao
look at these triceps

Why are you making the assumption that the lean muscle mass increases beyond your natural limit just because you are obese?
You said earlier 250lbs of lean body mass, you do realize that's on par with a 98' Ronnie?

where did you go?
LMAO
why don't you explain to me why this woman (according to you you) has more muscle mass than you without ever having touched a weight ;D

are you telling me that this guy doesn't have 250lbs of lean body mass? ;D
LBM is not just pure muscle, it's everything but fat

Yes and a 98' Coleman weighed roughly 245-250lbs in contest shape including bones, organs, skin, fluids etc. My argument still holds.

People like yah are dumb asses and you'll never realize this. Bunch of dumb motherfuckers, I'm done with yah.
-
Fat loss and muscle gain are completely different metabolic processes, one involved a calorie deficit, the other a surplus; if you are natural, you cannot gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.

::)
gaining muscle is a factor of working out not a factor of eating
if it was not, then every body in america would be muscular instead of fat :-*

first thing first, how many natties do you see running around < 10% BF..second how many of those do you see making gains while being < 10% BF?
-
Naturally I think the best zone is probably around 15%bf(give take a couple of points either way) for gaining size and strength, and it's a percentage that is easily maintainable and you can look decent at.
Now if you want to get very strong naturally, you'll probably have to go at it Ditillo or Bruce Randall style. Pork out, then cut.
-
all year around i can see my abs and i keep gaining mass and strength, i dont know exactly my bodyfat % but its probably around 10 to 12.

Wrong because incomplete. An Anabolic state means you have some nutriments in excess in your system that are going to be processed to create extra muscular tissue. Whie theoretically it would be possible to gain muscle while losing fat, it's practically impossible except in the first stages of working out when your hormonal systemgets a huge boost. As a natural, you will plateau sooner or later (sooner more likely). At one point, unless you're a chemist calculating protein, carbs and fats to the milligram, you'll need to add at least a little fat to gain a little muscle.
