GUYS...LETS CUT THE CRAP AND BE REAL...VERY FEW LIFTERS CAN BENCH 315....I'M TALKING NATURALS HERE OF COURSE...NOT THE NEANDERTHALS ON JUICE...I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER OF MY GYM FOR FOUR YEARS AND I HAVE ONLY SEEN TWO PEOPLE DO IT...VERY FEW EVEN ATTEMPT IT....I MYSELF AM TRYING TO WORK TOWARD IT BUT I AM AT 285...
AND I AM TALKING LIFTING 315 WITHOUT HELP FROM A SPOTTER.....WITHOUT A BENCH SHIRT AND ON THE FREESTANDING OLYMPIC BAR NOT ON THE ASSISTED RACK.
YET EVERYONE ON HERE CLAIMS TO BE BENCHING WAY ABOVE THAT
YOU GUYS AGREE?...AND WHAT IS THE ABSOLUTE WEIGHT LIMIT THAT A NATURAL CAN BENCH?

There are far too many variables to answer this question.
-
WHY ARE YOU SCREAMING?

sorry coach

I can do 345 without a spotter.

and how much can u bench with a spotter?
-
and how much can u bench with a spotter?
That was FUNNY!
-
and how much can u bench with a spotter?
With the confidence boost a spotter would give me, I would be willing to try a little more and see how that goes.
-
Fat people can bench press a crap load, even if they are natural. Otherwise I would agree with you.
-
I knew of at least 10 people when I was in high school that could bench 315 and a couple of them could do much more. Yes some of them I knew were on the sauce. Very few in the gym bench 315, for reps, but i have seen many do it and some much more. I dont think there is a natural limit.
-
i can touch and go on 315 on a good day, this is with someone unracking it for me.
when i was in better shape about 3 years ago i could get 315 by myself.
the difference now is i am a fat 220, and then i was in the 190's and in shape.
at my last gym i almost never saw anyone bench over 225, the gym i go to now there are a hand full of guys that bench 315, some of their forms are questionable.
i just don't think many people aspire to bench 315 on the flat. every year i see more and more guys using the hammer strength, DBs, and the smith machine. even on this board many people post that the flat is useless, and or the incline is better for building muscle.

Spoken like a true twink
-
I agree, you hardly ever see anyone of decent height who is also relatively thin and natural benching 315. At my gym besides the 1 huge trainer on juice the only people i ever see benching than much are short 5'6-5'7 guys are those big permabulkers.
-
8)
-
It's hard to say. I don't consider 315 a huge bench by any means, however it's pretty decent. Only a handful of guys in any gym I've worked out at can do it raw on average. It's impossible to say what the max a natural can max bench, however I know for a fact that 500+ raw can be done naturally. Some people naturally have a very strong bench.

change gyms

I'd say a very small percentage of people standing atleast 5'10" with bodyfat low enough to show some sort of abs and natural can bench 315. How many on the board fall into this category? I don't, but i am no beast either.

its been 3 years, but i had visible abs, probably mid teens in bf%, maybe a little lower, and i could do it, i was also 190 something. i am 5'10 on the dot.
how tall is goudy? i am sure he can push 315 for a couple.

I can do 345 without a spotter.
Yes, but not all of us are on Plazmosis.... ::)
-
oh for fucks sake, who s this guy,i was benching 300 after 9 months of training in grade 12,what a rediculous statement,,try training

Here's me doing 405 X 5. I'm 6' 215# and have a 6 pack.

on my current "diet" and training, i MIGHT never reach 315.... haha, but its all good!

I CANT

I CANT
Why not?
-
Why not?
Just I am really weak bench pressor.
Even when i was 100kg. I did 125kg for 6 reps around.
-
I've got to be honest - I think I could only bench 265 for a few sloppy reps before I went "on". Definitely not 315.
-
I can press 315 for 6-7 reps
I and 6'3.5

depends on genetics for benching and technique
I think 405 and maybe above are doable ...
this dude I know did 405x1 alone...I spotted him
he is a a local interlope turned bussinessman and is a strong dude
former wrestler
on pressing
on pulling he is pathetic
I used to train chest w/ him

Bench is my worst lift and I've done a shaky double with 315 at my heaviest - what a BEAST!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

here's my 315 x10
on gear
-
have another friend, a mild mannered lawyer who presses 315x8-10 .... never touched anything
he always baffles me ...his bench is insane
and he's about 215 @ 6'1" maybe 15-17 %
he's so polite and delicate almost gayish :D
but that fucker can BENCH!
-
I got 405 natty before i fucked up my shoulder...and got old :P
now i can still put up 365, never tried any more than that.

Gear doesnt have something to do with this.
Just you are a nature freak of power.

I did one plate on each side for 10 yesterday ;D

Once again, you're doing what you do best: Make tired, pitiful excuses for your lack of personal progress. Where exactly do you train, Curves?
Instead of obssessing on what naturals supposedly can or can't do, perhaps you should focus on your training (and more importantly, your diet).
Furthermore, your own statement betrays you. Are we to believe that you absolutely CANNOT add an extra 30 lbs. to your bench press without drugs? In the event you actually accomplish that, can we then accuse you of taking everything but the kitchen sink?
315 is working weight for me (5-8 reps) and has been for several years. And, back in college, I could barely afford Mega Mass and Challenge Milk & Egg Protein powder, much less steroids or any other drugs.
Bottom line: It took eating/drinking thousands of calories, day after day, week after week, and month after month, to put on enough size to accomplish that feat.
Was it easy? NO!
Did I gain pure muscle? HARDLY!!!
Did I feel like ramming that much food down my throat daily? I DON'T THINK SO!!
But, in the end, I stuck with it and got the job done.
-
have you guys tried Plazmosis? once you try it, 315lbs bench press is a breeze ;D, what a wonder......hahahahhahah aha

Everyone here can do 500lbs for reps. :)

my PR is 315, i did it last month, 195@5'10 natural with abs 8)

I have to chip in and say it is very good to hear that very few people in the gyms that most getbiggers train in cant bench 315 pounds. Makes me feel good that I am in the group that pumps it for some reps. Always been a natural and going to keep it that way.
MCWAY said it well, the transformation does not happen overnight you have to train, eat and rest day after day, week after week, than this will be no trouble for you lifting this weight in the future hopefully ;)

i agree with point i feel more ppl are shying away from bench pressing.
In my gym atm shoulpder pressing is taking off big time

I used Shawn Phillips' add 50lbs to your bench in 7 weeks plan and got 325 for one rep. That was at 5'9 182. Chest still sucked, though.
http://musclemedia.com/training/bench/benchintro.asp
Probably could do about 280 now at 172.

It's good to see you AGAIN McWay....you seem to be riding my ass for some reason...but I hardly think that me being unable (yet) to bench 315 is an indication of my not trying hard enough or having a lousy diet or not taking in the proper supps or calories....although you are right I am not perfect at doing the above by any means....but the fact is that even many people who do those things you espouse above still cannot get to 315 on bench....
maybe it's my gentics...I'm a short hulking fuck at 5'5"....(strangers in the street will often comment to me how big I am)..so maybe it could be due to my being short, or lack of arm strength....maybe not having the leverage of a bigger guy....or being too big around the middle and not having a six-pack....
I never said that no one could do it..just that it is extremely difficult to do and many who brag that they are doing it are lying or on juice...I am happy that you are able to do it...but as I have said there are many guys in my gym who look way better than me and have great bodies and can't do it either....I am benching 285 and I am at the high end of the benchers in my gym..I know people are going to make fun of that, but remember I am not in California or Florida where the percentage of heavy benchers are skewed due to physique guys flocking to those areas...I am in a neighborhood gym in New York with regular neighborhood guys who work everyday
unless maybe you have some super duper incredible supplement that you take that will do the job for me....since you are such a shill for the supp companies ;)

Do you have to be a tall guy on average to bench 315 or more?..does it have more to do with leverage?..having long legs and long arms?
-

Leverage has a lot to do with it. Actually I thought shorter guys had the advantage. Some people are just stronger on certain lifts and weak on others. My old workout partners for example loved to show off on bench day, but when it was my time to shine on leg day they would suddenly disappear?

I want to get my bench up to the high 300s which I think is realistic, perhaps even this year.
-
Benching 315 should only be attempted in the height of summertime.
I've seen Pecs literally been torn from tendons during heavy winter sessions.
Gotta keep those muscles warm.
-
anybody with average genes should be able to lift that.it just takes time and hard work.

I can't at all hahaha! My weight is 160, anyway I would like to be able and it's not an excuse, of course is possible for naturals.

315 is not hard at all. And first of all 4 years in the gym means shit. You don't have to be on juice either. Lame ass

I have been in the gym for four years....been trying to reach 315 since last year.....need about 30 more pounds on the bar to reach my goal..tried to lift 295 but couldn't budge the bar....maybe I have just reached my natural limit?
my lifts keep getting heavier on other exercises..maybe as my arms, shoulders, back etc get bigger and stronger, I'll be able to do it soon..been stuck on 275 x 5 and 285x 1 for a long time though...starting to get a little discouraged

did 330 for 3 a few years ago, never tried to go any heavier but all I did at that time was bench press once a week in my cousins basement but my chest is my worst bodypart so there ya go.

For these types of things, learn to love the little plates(1.25lbs and 2.5lbs). After a certain point, I just couldn't make larger jumps in weight. The little plates and "Wave" type loading helped out a good deal.
As for naturals, I think it just has to do with boredom many times. It took a good 4-5 years of basic training before I could bench 315. Most get bored and jump into the "newest, latest" and fail to put their time in.

Agreed, probably not warming up proper either. If i warm up with a couple extra reps or sets my strength is gone.
Im stuck ay 225 for 6 at the moment. Like many my bench just flat out sucks.

Dude you can get 315. How much you weighing? If your repping 275 like that 315 is there. No doubt
-
i can bench 315 for 5-7 reps and im only 165lbs.
-
i have long arms so that might be the reason why i suck so much at it.
-
I did 300 at 150 bodyweight = double bodyweight bench press.
These days I could give two shits and only do inclines.
-
Just out of interest for anybody that cares.
I'm 6 4" with long arms. When I first began weight training at 19 yrs I remember trying to incline with just an Olympic bar and on the first rep almost dropping it because it was too heavy - I was exceedingly unathletic as I was growing up. My arms were around 12/13 inches at the time.
After 1 year of training I was able to bench around 225 pounds for a few reps. After two years I was routinely able to bench 225 for sets of 15-20 reps.
After 5-6 years of natural training I was able to bench 300 for 6-8 unassisted reps.
Then I did a few - and I stress a few very moderate cycles and my bench went to 350 for 10 reps (totally unassisted). I could also bench 225 for 40-50 reps and 300 for 15-20 reps.
However when I tried to bench 405 I failed completely on the first rep and never tried benching heavier than that since.
After a lot of years off training I am now back in the gym (started again earlier this year - I'm 37 now and been training for the last 5 months). I have just in the last two weeks managed to put up 225 for a set of 4 (last week) and this week managed 5 reps with 225. Have not used gear in 7 years and have not trained prior to this year for 4 years.
225 feels solid, not exactly heavy but when it comes to the 4th or 5th rep I just can't push it up anymore. progress is slow but I'm starting to get my old shape back minus a hell of alot of muscle. But in my old age I appreciate just being able t olift again (so far injury free) and am loving it, love the challenge, love getting the pump, and now starting to really appreciate the cardio I'm doing too - after 10 or so minutes on the treadmill I start to egt that real endorphine rush. Anyways - enough of me.
-
I work out in a lot of different gyms and I can count on one hand how many people I see bench 315. No matter how muscular, it's very rare that I see a 315+ bencher. Hell, when I do my light benching (multiple sets of 235X20 reps), I'm looked at like some kind of celebrity ;D
-

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

-
Whether you believe me or not is hardly relevant...what is interesting for me however is just how hard it is to come back after a lengthy time off. I would never have thought I would struggle with 225 but there it is. But then again - I found 135 at the beginning of the year damn hard work for I think it was 5 or 6 reps...but then things are going up so I'm happy.
-
good lifts man
i myself have benched 315 for 15
-
It really does matter how you train and what your goals are I guess...there was a guy that pretty much trained nothing but chest and arms at an old gym I used to frequent. The most reps I ever saw him do with 300 was 6 but he could do a single (and maybe pull off a double from time to time) with almost 500 pounds. I would have snapped like a twig under that weight.

315 for 20 reps ?
225 for fucking 50 ?
who you think you are bullshitting ?
hmm
let's see
you are a nattie
you bench right there with the ifbb pros

very good point.....you have validated my own experiences.....I get the same thing while benching 285.....people look me as if I am the hulk or something...I don't see it as anything special..but it shows how few people can really bench 315....this might be the first thread in getbig history where many guys are admitting what they CAN'T do
-
What's unusual is the bench is arguably the most popular exercise out their. However it is also an exercise that few are very strong at considering how many people do this exercise and how much emphasis is put on it. I always have people come up and ask, even those who know little about working out "how much you bench press?"
-
This is an old one of me doing 140kg (308lbs) x 6
Those blue plates are attached to the bar with a fixed weight of 100lbs or 45kg
The greeney/grey plates are 20kg each
The next one down is 10kg
The next 2 are 7.5kg each
The last one is a 2.5kg plate

This is an old one of me doing 140kg (308lbs) x 6
Those blue plates are attached to the bar with a fixed weight of 100lbs or 45kg
The greeney/grey plates are 20kg each

GOOD JOB......maybe I will have a spotter lift the bar for me like you did.....I have not been working with a spotter..I have been lifting the bar off the rack myself
-
Haha im lazy to lift out myslef plus the racks are very low and i have long arms so its sucks for me. I cant adjust the height.
There are maybe 10 people in my gym whop can bench 315lbs
The lightest is around 175lbs and has a max of 352lbs.
Most are either pretty heavy 95kg (210lbs)+ or been lifting a long time

my buddy / co-worker is natural and puts up some of the most impressive weights i've ever seen - 28yrs old, 225lbs, 5'10" - he has a pretty poplular training log over at t-nation.com (name Alpha) and also posts his vids there and on youtube (alphatnation). you guys should check it out. examples: 405 x 1 incline bench, 405 front squats - good stuff

405 barbell incline at 225 bodyweight is pretty damn impressive.

I appreciate it man...I hate making you validate your claims but benching 315 at 165 lbs puts me to shame....gotta see that....I'm short also...5'5 and 255..I know..I'm a fat fuck! big belly..everything else is good though....belly throws off everything!

445 x 1 easy - &feature=channel

lil brother putting some weight overhead.
here is a vid of him doing a very "shaky" 405, but it was about 3 weeks after recovering from a broken fist, so he hadnt trained upper body much for the last couple months before it. he benched 435 recently for an easy smooth rep.
Here's one just for FUN ;)
he's natural just like me, but is much taller and heavier. weighs about 260 right now at 6'2. i was recently 215 Lbs at 5'9, but have started a diet and am dropping weight. my lifts arent nearly as impressive either :'( Ive benched 315 and could probably do a little over that, but not much. My squats and deads arent bad though.
Your lil broskie is a beast!.......and the egg eating vid made me LOL ;D
-
damn. getbig has alot of strong naturals

I gotta admit that video of Ursus doing 308 got me stoked...can't wait to get to the gym.....I have been stuck at 275 for about 5 and 285 for one....but I have been trying to lift the entire weight off the bar by myself instead of having a spotter help me....it's tough geting the 285 off the rack....
I now will try to do it with a spotter and have a spotter help me get the weight off the rack..I will progressively go for 285 for 5 then do 295 for 2 or 3 and then 305 for 1...we'll see what happens

Shoulder blades "back" and "down". Keep them that way while you lift on bench. It gives you a firm base and helps you lift more. Elbows will form about a 45 degree angle to your body when going down. If you bring your elbows out more so they are in line with shoulders, it is probably better for your chest, but you lose some power.
good luck with 315
thanks a lot.,....you just mentioned two tips that will help me tremendously.....i am always lying flat on the bench like a woman waiting for sex....you are right I have to get my shoulder blades back and down.....and you're also right about the arms and elbows..I keep flaring out my elbows which is probably robbing me of some power...
thanks a lot....good help...beats the usual "man up, you pussy" that i usually get

I put up 315 for 8 when I was 240lbs, after a hurt shoulder I have no interest in trying to lift that heavy on pressing movements anymore. Not worth risking a injury.
