It's supposed to be a half hour. What kind of job interview has you talking for 30 minutes on the phone. Anyone ever do one of these before?
-
they just ask you basics..be light and upbeat and very positive about everything..they are judging your personality and how you will fit in with their staff....... and dont talk too much or give overly detailed explanations, let them do all the talking...dont offer up any information they dont ask for...just answer each question briefly and very very positive.
Try to assess the personality of the interviewer, if they make a lot of jokes, show them you are fun, but dont make the mistake of making your own quips..it will work against you.

Have a few beers before hand to loosen up.
Sound advice.

I think this might be really important.

Advice: Be.Yourself.
Not much choice there. It's with a university in Saudi Arabia.
-
They will ask you how you would react or deal with certain situations
More importantly, they want you to demonstrate that you have actually dealt with certain situations before
they don't want to know what you "could" do, but rather what you "have" done

Sounds interesting.
Do you normally get nervous before these kinds of things? Does the nervousness inhibit your performance or does it simply "keep you sharp"?
-
i was a traveling nurse and have done numerous interviews over the phone. always got the jobs i was looking for. iv'e interviewed for nursing positions in st thomas, san diego, hawaii, nyc, and hopkins in baltimore city

Not really. I am nervous because I can't imagine why it needs to be a half hour and I don't know what they will be asking and it is in Saudi. BUT worse thing that can happen is I don't get the job, so no biggie.

Do you a nommally get a camel to to takee a sheet in you?
If you send me a pm like that one more time I will see to it that you are banned. End of story.
-
They want to know what specific skills you have that would make you right for the job
They will also want you to give examples of situations in the past where you have used these skills, rather than just saying how you would use them

Let's say 200 people applied for a job, and 50 or so look good on paper and made the first cut. A company isn't going to fly 50 people in for face-to-face interviews... they want to cut it down to a half-dozen or so for that. Phone interviews are basically to weed out the losers and clarify questions that your resume does not answer clearly.

Probably won't get it, was surprised about the invite anyway...if I actually got the job, it would be weird.

Let the interviewer do most of the talking.
Biggest secret to phone interviews is to do them in front of a mirror. People can pick up on tension so using the mirror will help make sure your smiling and have a relaxed face.

Good tip. cheers
-
Just be relaxed, and beyond that look up a list of stock questions that some interviewers ask, and have various stock answers ready. For example, what is your greatest weakness, tell me about a project in which you made the greatest impact, etc. Don't talk too much, let the interviewer lead.
-
in most telephone interviews the employer is just looking for the basics. employment hx ect, if you are personable and can sell yourself you are probably in good shape. im sure it went well. good luck
-

Here is a tip:Tell them what they want to hear.
-
i am not sure what kind of job it is exactly - when i had a phone interview, the interviewer told me some details about the position, asked me questions on the experience i listed on my resume and whether i could do this or that and also asked whether i had any questions about the job.

Did you get the job?
-
yes
-
If you told them about your major accomplishments as a contributor to the 'Gayer than' thread you're certain of the position.
-
Garbage pickup interview over the phone? What's the 2nd interview - panel interview?
-
yes
Looking back, are you glad you got the job?
-
it is a summer internship, starts june 1st ;D
-
Cool. Jus' sayin' that the most important thing to accomplish is to find out if the job you are being interviewed for is one that you really want. With all the 'put your best obsequious foot forward' crap that goes with interviews, people tend to forget that. They panic about getting the job, then 12 months later can't stand the job.
