I'm guessing the nfl will reinstate him for the upcoming season. I'm wondering why any team would actually want him considering all the protests and negative press that will go along with having a guy like this on your roster. I mean he was never a great qb to begin with. Would it really be worth putting up with all the negatives?
-
i see him going to Europe.
-
it would be funny if he went to korea
-
he'll prob go to the cfl for a coule years to prove his worth
-
He'll be back in the NFL. Just take a look around the league. A lot of QB needy teams. He has already proved he can win with a mediocre supporting cast.
He has paid his debt to society.

I feel the same way, i still think he is a piece of shit though but he is paid up with society

and yes he would bring in a lot of money, tv time for the franchise etc...
-
he is trying to do some work with the humane society. PSA type stuff last i heard.
-
no way he wont go the NFL, too many needy teams that wont pass up on his speed.
-
id honestly hope he has changed his ways and done away with those friends of his that he shouldnt have been dealing with in the first place...Id like to see him back he was fun to watch and would add another story line to next years season.

his friends were not the problem, he was the one financing the operation and killing dogs via drowning and electrocution. how someone can hold a dog underwater or electrocute to death is beyond my comprehension. now he says he wants to work with PETA or something? i think thats completely disingenuous, someone who does something that brutal and vile towards an animal cant suddenly have compassion for it. i am not against him playing in the nfl and making a living, everyone deserves a 2nd chance, i just dont like the guy for what he did.

Fuck Vick. If he never would have been caught, he'd still be running a dog fighting operation to this day.
I'm not forgiving shit and he doesn't deserve a second chance. He won't be the same player when he comes back. He lacks the mechanics of a passing pocket quarterback. He's almost 30 years old and he won't be able to scramble and run as effectively as he once did. The league gets younger every year and defenses will catch up to him a lot quicker than in the past. Not only that, he's two seasons removed from his last NFL start and for a QB, that is detrimental.

Hahaha, don't give him a second chance? Ray Lewis is a murderer and you seem to have no qualms about him playing in the league. :-\

Ray Lewis was not found guilty of murder nor did he committ murder, you imbecile. Your attempts to be clever are largely overshawdowed by your obvious immaturity. You always try to pick fights with everyone and you fail miserably because no one cares. The truth is that you're posts are mostly ignored and deleted. We have our excellent mod, Body88, to thank for that. As a result, your opinions are and always will be rendered obselete.
Even on a free open forum like Getbig you still can't and won't be read because you're a shit head.....

That is really a joke if they parade him out there as some type of spokesperson for peta or the aspca. The only thing he regrets is that he got caught. The thought of him sitting there reading some psa of a cue card makes me cringle. I agree that the guy has a right to make a living i just dont think it should be in the nfl. Even though he may have the athletic talent to help a team, being an nfl player is a privilage that he should not have.

LOL its obvious that youve never had many friends of the unsavory kind, i grew up with such friends and even though i wasnt a bad kid per se i did shit that i wouldnt have done on my own. Those ppl if he is still around him will only serve to get him in more trouble was my point. I agree like i said i still think he is a piece of shit but he is PAID UP WITH SOCIETY and that you cannot disagree with and b/c of that he deserves to play if a team is willing to let him play.

I agree with tony. People make mistakes all the time. No one really knows if Vick is truly remorseful, but there really isn't much more he can do other than do his time, apologize, live right, and try and prevent others from making the same mistakes he did.
He might have received the harshest animal cruelty punishment in American history. I say enough already. It's not like he molested someone's kid.
And regarding his ability, he's one of the few football players I would pay to see. Can't really compare him to pocket passers or other mobile QBs. He's a different breed. I doubt we've ever had a QB in the NFL who was also arguably the fastest player in the NFL.

No, Ray Lewis sold his buddies out because celebrities are always capable of skirting the law. That man is a murderer and a piece of shit. Plain and simple. He has no business being in the league. However, if someone like him gets a second chance, then Michael Vick should.
-
Vick is old news. He had his window of superstardom and now it's gone. He's was an excellent athlete playing quarterback.
Unless he learns the basic mechanics of being a drop back passer and not run at the first sign of pocket collapse, he won't amount to shit. You can't relay on speed and quickness at the QB position your entire career. Randall Cunningham made the adjustment as he got older and he became a capable starting QB heading into his 30's. I don't think Vick can make a transition like that. He lacks the football IQ to consistently read defenses. Not only that, he fumbles and puts the ball on the ground almost every game he played in. yeah, he was exciting to watch but winning is the bottom line in the NFL.

He's not John Wayne Gacy, but he is a murderer. The NFL is full of scumbags. Just look at Cincinnati, Buffalo and a host of other teams. If Pac-Man got 5 chances, Michael Vick should get another.

Alright...we're back in the year 2000. Tell me again how he engaged in the physical act of murder?

Keep in mind he had garbage WRs and still made the Pro Bowl three times, the playoffs, and the NFC Championship game. If winning is the bottom line, I think his record is pretty good, when you factor in his supporting cast.

His biggest mistake was hanging around thugs. I don't think he murdered the guy. He has been pretty clean since then.

True about the WR's but I don't think he ever gave his guys much of a chance. There have been countless times when the pocket would collapse and he would scramble to his left. As defenses would close in on him he would pass up numerous opportunities to throw to his open WR's for a big gain before running past the line of scrimmage. Instead he would take off and run almost every time. He lacks the skills and IQ to improvise on the fly. Now he's an older player and two years removed from football. He won't be able to get away with playing that style any longer.

Isn't it possible he took off so much because his WRs couldn't get open?
I really like the way Reeves used Vick. Had a number of controlled roll outs and designed run plays.
Vick really is different. I doubt we'll ever see another QB pass for 170 yards and run for 170 in the same game. That's just off the chain. He just needs to be in the right system with someone who knows how to use him.
I do agree the rust could really hurt him, but he's not too old. Depends on how hard he trains. Did you see the Willie Gault article I posted the other day? Certainly possible for an athlete to maintain his speed in his 30s. I know Gault didn't lose two years in prison, but he's in his late 40s and still faster than almost everyone in the NFL.
-
He should be reinstated simple as that. Leon Little killed a women in a drunk driving accident and yet there is no out rage over the fact he paid his debt to society and moved on with his life.
What do you expect Vick to do? What's done is done and can't be taken back. He's done what the legal system has asked of him and now he is a free man.
I'm looking forward to his return i think he'll still be an exciting player perhaps not on the physical level he once was speed wise, but he'll be a solid addition to the team that picks him up.

That's a negative, ghostrider.....Guys like Heyward-Bey out of Maryland would leave him in the dust in a 100 meter dash. You can't be serious. A guy that old will not be able to stay with NFL players at the skill positions in a foot race. Ain't buying that, dude....

Don't shoot the messenger. I just posted the story. If it's true, he's faster than pretty much every player at this year's combine, and almost every player in the NFL:
Compare that to Gault, who can still crack 10 seconds in the 100-yard dash, and last year ran the 40 in a blistering 4.27. Age-grading track and field tables suggest that his recent 10.80 for the 100 meters at 48 is the equivalent of 9.76 by a man in his 20s – only a step behind Usain Bolt, and fast enough for a silver medal at the Bejing Olympics.

I don't have any reason to doubt it. Why would they just make this up? You think they invented his participation in the Mt. SAC Relays in Southern California? (You should read the whole story.)

I just don't buy that Gault can keep up with an elite NFL cornerback in his prime, in a foot race. No way, no how. I think those times are complete bullshit, especially in the 40 yard dash.

Leonard Little got another DWI after that as well and nothing happened. Great football player....even better attorneys.

he's a piece of shit that will never be forgiven
this is a nation of dog lovers, many people value a dog's life over a human

Bum's certainly not known for good judgement, this is yet another example. Vick was nothing, regardless of the accolades.
He'll be meeting with the comissioner, who is no dummy. If he doesn't convince him that he's truly remorseful he's not getting back in.
As far as bum's claim that he's done the time, that's the obvious part that entirely ignores the fact that the public is not going to forgive or forget.
-
Vick was a lot of flash with very little substance as an NFL QB. Great for the occasional sports center highlight, but nothing more.

I agree, the backlash will be incredible. Goodell doesn't fawk around with these guys anymore, although i think he will reinstate him. He won't be worth the headache IMO. Even if he truly is sorry and has paid his debt to society people still hate him.

Vehicular homicide while driving under the influence of alcohol is a white boy crime, which is why no one said shit about Little.
Dogfighting is a black/Latino crime, which is why America wants Vick's balls on a platter.

No, as mentioned, we live in a nation of dog lovers. Dog's bring people joy, while other humans often cause them pain. First, Vick did more than fight dogs. He tortured and killed them for fun. Second, people love their pets and when they think of what Vick did to Fido and how sick and twisted you have to be to get joy out of killing defenseless animals, they got upset and they wont forget.
The American people just elected a black man president, cut the shit. Btw, there are plenty of white people who fight pits.

I'm so sick of people making this about race. If Phillip Rivers was caught doing the same thing, the reaction would be the same. The racism well is really running dry.

You think it's ok for a NFL player to smash in puppies skulls for fun? To throw family pets in the ring with fighting dogs for a laugh? How about hanging dogs that didn't want to fight? The issue is over your head. It's about a human....a human that makes millions of dollars to play a game, torturing and murdering innocent creatures for fun. That's not how you act if you are a contributing member of society.
What do you do for a living?

He tortured dogs by attaching wires to them and electrocuting them, picking them up and slamming them on the ground repeatedly, holding them under water, placed them on treadmills for up to 45 minutes at a time all while keeping them hungry to increase aggression. btw that statement of yours speaks volumes of you. in my opinion society can be judged on how they treat their children, elders and animals...

Agreed, 2 Amstels says that goof works some shitbag job and probably has never been more than 10 miles outside whatever shithole he lives in. If Vick has simply fought dogs, I would have given him a pass and chalked the act up as a mistake. I'm a huge dog lover and I have owned several pitbulls. What Vick did was much more sinister than just fighting dogs. He should never be forgiven and honestly, how can you think someone is stable who grabs a puppy and slams it on the ground until it dies?
Fuck that guy.

He killed a woman "who was 47 at the time of the accident [and] left behind a husband and a teenage son." How on earth do people place animal cruelty above something like this? ???
I will say that there are some crimes that I would never forgive (e.g., child molestation), but animal cruelty isn't one of them, particularly when someone is given probably the most severe punishment in American history for the crime.
Whichever team signs him (and I hope it's the Niners) will be fine. People have short memories in this country, and they are very forgiving.

How do you not see the difference? From the story:
He's the one who got behind the wheel of his Lincoln Navigator legally drunk. He's the one who ran a red light at a downtown intersection. He's the one who plowed into a much smaller car. He's the one who ended the life of Susan Gutweiler.
He intentionally got behind the wheel while drunk and killed an innocent human being. He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. This wasn't simply an accident.
We're talking about people vs. dogs here. Night and day.
-
he did not intentionally ram his car into another car ::)
E
-
He didn't accidentally get behind the wheel while drunk and run over an innocent mother. ::) If it was an accident he wouldn't have been convicted of manslaughter.
-
TV wants Vick back.
He'll be a good story.
As much as people want to hate him - all the better.

I'm saying anytime a person gets behind the wheel of a car drunk and they kill someone it's not an accident. Any adult with half a brain knows that alcohol impairs driving and is the cause of a plethora of deaths every year. It's the height of recklessness to drive drunk. It's Russian Roulette with other people's lives.
An accident is something completely unintentional. Drunk driving, and a resulting death from drunk driving, doesn't fall in that category. That's why he is a convicted felon.

It also impairs the ability to make rational decisions. Earl has a point. In the back of your mind you know drunk driving is wrong, but your intention is not to hurt someone. In Vick's case, he tortured, mutilated, fought and killed dogs for many years. Vick also threw family pets into dogfighting rings for a laugh. I bet he wishes he could use a drug as an excuse for his actions.

I understand what he's trying to say: Little didn't get in the car with the intent to kill that wife and mother. I view it differently (as does our legal system). If you engage in reckless conduct that you know can injure or kill someone, there is no "accident." Getting drunk before going to a firing range and then "accidentally" shooting someone isn't an accident. A car is just like a loaded weapon, but worse.
We're not talking about something in the back of our minds. Drunk drivers kill thousands of people, including children, every year. http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html
I don't think anyone is making any excuses for Vick. What he did was terrible. But if we're comparing him with Little, there's no question in my mind that what Little did was far worse. I love dogs, but people > animals.

I don't think anyone is making any excuses for Vick. What he did was terrible. But if we're comparing him with Little, there's no question in my mind that what Little did was far worse. I love dogs, but people > animals.
They're both living creatures... I like my dog more than some human beings.

Agreed, but what Vick did was premeditated and without the use of a "drug" that can impair your judgement and decision making. Of course the outcome was worse for little, but the intent was more sinister in regards to Vick.

exactly
what vick did was pure evil, he completely lacks empathy and compassion LIKE ALL TRUE CRIMINALS THAT BELONG IN CAGES
little was just an idiot that thought he was invincible, thousands drive drunk every single day, unfortunatly his stupid mistake cost somebody their life
there is no doubt Little is sorry, vick is only "sorry" because he got caught
the situations cannot be compared unless your football team sucks and you are desperate for somebody to help turn things around

Yes they are. I can understand why. :-\

I really don't buy that distinction. No one forced Little to get drunk. He knew driving drunk was illegal before he got behind the wheel. He ran a light and plowed into an innocent wife and mother. That really pales in comparison to Vick abusing dogs.
And just so I understand what we're talking about, it's whether Vick should be allowed to play in the NFL again right? If so, I really think he has been punished enough. Not really any grounds to permanently ban him with Little as precedent.

I'd feel the same way even if my team didn't suck. :)
But someone get York a memo. The Niners should be at the front of the line when Vick gets released. :)

I whole heartedly agree. Betting on one or two dog fights is a mistake. Vick ran a WHOLE dog fighting circuit and killed innocent dogs. The only true remorse he has is that he got caught because if he didn't he'd still be doing it. Vick is a horrible human being. Little did what could happen to anybody and he isn't a habitual offender. Vick was. I think any team that signs him should burn.

No, drunk driving can't happen to anybody. Neither can running a red light and killing someone because you are driving drunk. It only happens to those who have a reckless disregard for other peoples lives.
I guess it's possible this was the first time Little ever drove drunk, but I doubt it.

There's alot more people with DWI's than people running dog fighting circuits.

Any GM in a team with losing record last season is desperate.
Body88 - Pats take him. Minimum salary. Do you stop following NFL / Rooting the Patriots.
LessthanAverage Joe ( since he doesn't follow NFL ) now knows Vick by name and might even wanna check just how good that dog molester is. Or atleast tune in for the highlights where Vick gets booed by the Dawgpound.
Executives love money more than dogs or morale.
Vick will play.

Sadly, he will prolly be reinstated. Sadly still, he will have suitors who want him. I can see the Bills picking him up. They took TO when there was NO market for him, and gave him 6.5 guaranteed for a one year deal. I can see them doing the same with Vick. The Vikings are waiting for Brett.

Uh oh. Body must be on the phone with the NE front office protesting this right now. :D
There's been a theory making the rounds in the media that the New England Patriots could be a perfect destination for former Falcons quarterback Mike Vick. Previously, we'd brushed off such speculation, since we believe (and we've been told) that Vick will be looking for a place where he can compete for the starting quarterback job. In New England, that wouldn't be happening -- barring another Tom Brady ACL eruption. But we're now hearing that there could be something to the chatter, primarily since it's appearing more and more likely that Vick won't have many/any options to compete for the every-down quarterback job in 2009. Under those circumstances, sending Vick to New England for a year could help Vick position himself to become an attractive candidate for another team in 2010.

Any team that picks up this piece of shit deserves to go 1-15.
