I've allways been fascinated by training splits; a combinational problem. Seems like there are no "real answers" and each split will give you a different feeling. I tend to try one and realize it's "hard" and blame the "erronous" split and switch around ;D. So many questions and so many different answers; "how often should I train each group?", "how often should I take a day off?", "Can I train a smaller group first?", "Is it better to have certain days of the week for certain groups, (Monday chest, tuesday back etc..)?"
Rules I tend to follow:
- never hit a muscle directly then indirectly the following day; tends to "break" the local recovery cycle and alter the PTOR for that particular group
- Allways Train Legs as a whole (quads & Hamz)
- Try to "localize" the blod flow; ie shoulder and calves limits the "pump" where chest and shoulders or bi/tri tends to maximize
- This is the tough one: try to "prioritize" weaker groups, in my case my T-rex arms
Looks like Jay broke one of my rules by hitting chest/bi/forearms then back the following day. >:(
Deeezcuzz.

Jay should stick to light stretching and bodyweight movements.
his body is no longer responding to weights.
-
good grief fatso, just lift heavy and be done with it

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I just spilled my jack in the box Oreo cookie shakes ;D

actually jay trains hamstrings on a different day than quads (i think it's the day after)
madmax discussed this on flexonline

Not based on his online "schmoeairy".... I've tried to that too but seems the hams still take such a hit when doing heavy legs and they recover very slowly...

yea. Me personally I always train legs on one day (most of the time mondays). I'm just going by what madmax says when he posts pictures of jay's workouts on flexonline that he hits hamstrings the day after quads.

Yea the day after could make sense; kinda "finish 'em off" type of deal....

I think that's the plan of his injection sites, not his training split.

I do
Chest/tris
back/bis
shoulders
legs
repeat
-
I don't think training back after a day of biceps is too smart.

If saturday is going to be an "off" day, do you put in the extra effort and start day 1 instead?
-
Generally ill just do the day i was meant to do next day i am down the gym. 90% of time anyway.
Longest it will be between bodyparts is 7days shortest is 4 that way

Where is the forearm, glutes and Calf workouts?
-
forearms gets done on back and bis day no direct work needed.
calves on leg day
-
forearms gets done on back and bis day no direct work needed. Unless you are Lee priest, do forearms 3 sets after back workout, wont hurt.
calves on leg day No, do them on their own, if you want calves of course.
-
if you are steroid using your recovery should be very quick
-
I don't think training back after a day of biceps is too smart.
works pretty good to keep the back isolated from the biceps. you might be weaker, but thats because your biceps arent contributing.. your back should be still lifting the same load though.
-
gotta respectfully disagree - like saying if you want forearms have a forearm day
-
Where is the forearm, glutes and Calf workouts?
Are people at your work place still "scared" of you?

Simple enough question.

I wouldn't say he's overrated . Jay carries an obscene amount of size and he has good balance , his last few showings have sucked and he's paid the price for it , at his best he's impressive as hell but I can think of many better than him .

I wonder if he didn't get the way he does in the off-season if there would be a lot of the negative talk that there is...? Granted, yeah...he hasn't shown that well the past few competitions, but still a top 3 competitor. We saw how far Ronnie fell in the showings when he started going downhill, so I imagine it's not for reason of past presentation, showings, etc.

I like Jay but if there's one thing he doesn't have is balance. I don't think any pro bb has such a disparity between the left and right side of his physique.

at his best where do you think he places in say 1995?

I think a 2001 Jay would place in the top 5 of the 1995 Mr. Olympia. He wouldn't beat Dorian; He wouldn't beat Kevin; he probably wouldn't beat Nasser; Ray? Taylor? Cormier? tough to say.
Jay does carry a ton of muscle and when he nails his conditioning is unbeatable amongst today's pros. This just shows how much better the competition was in 1995. It would be awesome if Jay comes in peeled this year and takes back the Mr. O; unlikely but would be awesome nonetheless.

Great representative of the "sport." Winning number 3 this year.

I think it's more his lifestyle that so many of us are attracted to. Unlike most other pros he doesn't sell drugs, use rec drugs, do g4p, live in a studio apartment, hit his wife, use synthol, murder people and burn them in a Jag etc... He has a nice house, beautiful supportive wife with a good head on her shoulders, dogs, nice cars, and he gets to train professionally without having to do any other work. He truly is living the dream.
