You can travel to Kuwait if you'd like. They have tourist visa's for many nationalities. Dubai is a good visit as well we Qatar, Oman and several other locations in the Middle East.  I've been living there since 1995 (Kuwait).

Dumb statement. America is dangerous for Americans.  There are many places in this country that americans can't go into without threat of death.  Same as other countries.  Stay on the tourist path in any country and you will be fine.  Venture out into the hood waving your american flag and you are asking for it anywhere.

I've been to Egypt as well. I guess everywhere you go these days can be considered dangerous but I've never run into any problems.  My softball team from Kuwait actually travelled to Egypt for a tournament a few years ago. Many Americans participated in that. I've played in tournaments in Dubai, we've played in Saudi Arabia and Oman.  Never had any problems being an American.

Yeah I went to Egypt with no problems. But the year before some Americans were blown up near where I went. Poor buggers, their government was asking for this stuff to happen.

Yes, the actions of the government warrant the killing of civilians who just happened to be born American and have nothing whatsoever to do with the actions of the military. Typical Muslim thought process. You got your burqa on?

this thread is interesting.  if you notice the foreigners dont live in disneyland with the americans.  uber and turk are telling the truth.  the americans are dreaming about visiting places where you are a PRIME target for a suicide bomber or a guy with a sharp butter knife and saying it's a wonderful place....given people from other 3rd world countries think those destinations are s##ter than their slum and crime ridden homelands.  there is a reason why americans get f##ked over seas more than anyone.  must me that 1st world invincibility syndrome. i put that flag on my shirt and it means instant respect from the cannibals because i got a mortgage, a nice ride and an a$$ full of debt and you people cant afford a bus token.  go ahead and make that epic journey that streets of iraq with your red, white and blue.  i'll be sitting in sweden watching you get beheaded on cnn international.

Jeez what a crock of shit being spouted in this thread. The only place dangerous places are Iraq and Afghanistan. The gulf states are fine, Egypt is fine, Jordan is a great place, Syria is also cool (know plenty of americans that went there), Lebanon as long as you stay out the poor shiite areas is also an awesome place

this comes from someone who has lived in Israel for the last three years...you yanks can be a bunch of scaredy cat poofs sometimes.

if you want to hit the middle east go to Lebanon

I spent 20 days there around Christmas, traveling to the cities but spending most of my time in Beirut

because the country is half Christian it's like Europe but full of Arabs so there's plenty of booze and trendy clubs

everyone wears western clothing, everything is inexpensive - hell I only paid $165 on accommodations

like other people said the only place you can't really go is Iraq

I talked to a New Zealand couple when I was in Lebanon and they said Iran was the most friendly place they'd been - absolutely zero problems

I thought Dubai was impressive but very expensive - the McDonald's there have chicken big macs

Afghanistan was fun - I'd recommend staying away from where I was in the South though unless you bring a gun

the only bombing I remember was up north in Tripoli last September

it costs like 2000-3000 pounds ($1.50-$2) to take a bus up there from Beirut along the Mediterranean Sea

that city was my favourite, though - absolutely beautiful, delicious food (shawarma's with french fries inside!), and a super cool Crusader Castle on top the city

it only costs like $5 to get in and there aren't any tourists (probably because of the bombings)

Nah nothing wrong with Iran unless you're Israeli, or American of Iranian descent...everyone I know who went thought it was great, friendly people, good music scene, just don't take the piss in public thats all.

if you have a boner for history, Lebanon has a shit load of Roman ruins

the temples in Baalbek are fucking HUGE

you can walk almost anywhere and climb on most anything - the $10 only really pays for the guy at the front gate

there's also a massive Roman graveyard and chariot race track down in Tyre (as-Sour)

I can't say enough about Lebanon

if anyone decides to go, I'll give you the details of where I stayed in Beirut

it was cheap, clean, downtown, and two blocks from a lot of great bars/clubs (Gemmayze)

Such as Iraq, Iran, Kuwait....all the crazy places....is anyone even allowed to travel/vacation there?

who would want to?

Nobody who doesn't have to goes there in July / August - temperature way too hot. Wait until after September if you want to visit the region
