I'm an Oregon fan, but this isn't the kind of thing athletes - especially football players - do. He must be suspended immediately, regardless of what the Boise St. player may have said:

As an athlete, the worst feeling in the world is having to watch your teammates departing on the bus without you.
Sounds about fair i guess. I'm an Aussie, so i don't know much about NFLor their average suspensions, but that doesn't sound too major. There was an incident here in an AFL match where a guy threw a bit of a sucker punch. He got 8 weeks, but AFL is for soft cocks. ;D

He went after one of his own teammates...I didn't see that part initially.
After watching the replay a couple of times and seeing the part involving his own guy, the ONLY reason he shouldn't be kicked off the team permanently is ...what?

Probably not. He said all the right things after the game, but NO WAY should he have been allowed near any cameras at that time. That was a huge mistake by their SID.

There's nothing at all wrong with patting a guy on the helmet or shoulder pads after a hard-fought game.
You've got to keep your mouth in check, but it's reasonable to have some contact after a battle.

McShay: Blount Blows Chance At NFL
Immediately following Boise's 19-8 victory, an ESPN replay of the incident showed Hout taunting Blount as the teams converged onto the field. As a Broncos assistant coach moved to separate Hout from Blount, the Oregon senior threw a right cross that connected with Hout's right jaw. Hout went down and popped right back up.
"Under no circumstance is fighting acceptable," the NCAA said in a statement Friday. "If it occurs before or during a game, the officials enforce the rules. If it occurs after a game, institutions and conferences decide how to address the situation. We trust our members to handle these situations appropriately. Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility, including student-athletes, coaches, officials, institutions and fans.
In a statement prior to Blount's suspension, Oregon president Richard Lariviere calling the player's behavior "reprehensible."
"We do not and will not tolerate the actions that were taken by our player. Oregon's loyal fans expect and deserve better," Lariviere said. "The University of Oregon Athletics Department is reviewing the situation and will take appropriate action, reflecting the seriousness of the player's behavior."
Boise State spokesman Max Corbet told The Associated Press in an e-mail Friday that head coach Chris Petersen will not suspend Hout. Instead, Petersen will spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.

I at first was hoping he would get hauled off to a police station but now I look back, it was a harmless punch and Frost and security and 6 O linemen rushed him to the locker room to blow off steam. The good thing is, SC won't have to worry about him THIS YEAR!!!

The moment he went up to Blount, his coach grabbed him and got right in his face. If anything, he should miss the first series of the team's next game.
He actually got a good blast in. Blount had said told the media that the Ducks 'owed them a(uh) ass-whuppin' for the beatdown Boise St put on them last year. So, after the game he said to him, 'now you owe us two'.
