Title: How long have you been trying to 'get back in shape'?
Post by: Rhomboids on October 28, 2009, 05:33:44 PM
Just got off the phone with...err, just got back from the gym - delts and tris.  Still feel carb depleted.

When i was 19 i was, sadly, at my best shape.  Some 13yrs later, i keep telling myself every year that this is the year when i get back into that shape.  But i think i gotta sit myself down and face reality; i'm not living at home, eating, working, working out and sleeping.  Throw in lower testosterone and GH levels and the giant Sisyphean bolder is slowly pushing me down.

The pisser is that everyone that doesn't know me thinks i'm in great shape, but when you hit a high, you always compare yourself to that period in time.  I don't know how to train other than 100% all the time, but everynow and then i do think it'd be best to tone it down to 90% and concentrate on squeezing the muscles as opposed to powering through all sets.  Maybe i should pursue quality of muscle instead of new gains?

I think part of the problem is the mindset that progress means strength progress and as a byproduct, size increase.  Maybe i should judge progress by maintaining my current shape and not losing strength.

Its been some ten years that i've been trying to get back, only to always encounter some kind of stumbling block (sickness, missing meals becuase of work, etc).  Two busted knees and elbows are probably a sign that i have nothing to prove by training super-heavy, but then how the hell are people in their 40s still training hard?

The crux of my dilemma is that i know exactly what to do to get in shape, but i am no longer able to do everything consistently (food, training, resting).

End of rant.  (no homo)

Dude are you fucking kidding me?

you are 32 acting like you're going on 60.

Shut your vagina and get in the gym.

If your elbow hurts, ignore the pain until you are done and then take two aspirin. that's what I do.

I get mad at the pain, i curse it in my brain during a set

The best advices I can give this "guy" is to commit some felony so he can go to prison and be traded on a daily basis for a pack of cigs.  He seems like the type who would enjoy it as a vacation.

Cook your damn food the day before and put it all in small lunch boxes or whatever the american name is for it, tupperware?
Hell you dont even have to work out nor do cardio, could save that for later if you're a busy man.

Well working out with weights and keeping protein up is highly recommended if you want to improve body composition, both on a bulk or a cut. Preparing food however is not really necessary, just eat less if you want to cut.

That doesn't work for alot of weak minded people, hence why they are still fat.

Eliminating excuses do. for example having all the food ready.

Sure, whatever is more convenient resp. helps you stick to the diet. IMO, weak minded people need convenient plans easy to stick to. The least restrictions, the best. I'm a lzay mofo and I got ripped hardly preparing any food ever.

Funny how the single fucks chime in.  Get a full time corporate job and a family to support and see how easy it is to do this "hobby".

Your problem is you seem to have only peaked once, your body is foreign to diets every year to lean up.  You need to teach it.  Once I go into clean up mode my cravings for sweets and fats disappear. the only thing that I have to watch out for is being a irritated with things when I'm on a strict diet.  I seem to have a shorter fuse then.

You guys are douches.  These are guys who's number one job is bodybuilding.  They have another job to actually pay the rent.  The  guy posting here is not a pro or trying to go pro.  Probably only wants to be ripped for the summer type person.  Big difference.

its not fucking hard to just Stay in shape.

No need to be fucking ripped..

Stop making fucking excuses. You sound like a 300 pound woman with a "thyroid" problem.

If you wanna eat like a madman on the weekend DO IT. Just stay semi clean on the weekdays. Or go and walk for an hour before. etc etc or buy a crosstrainer and have it at home

How so? If you are at target weight, just keep on training and skip a meal every day you are above target weight. That's how I do it, very easy and convenient. Plus you will improve body composition while doing so and can increase your target weight a few pounds whenever you're ripped enough.

I have a full-time job, and I'm a 44 year old single parent, my life is anything but a cakewalk.

My GF is 38 yrs old and maintains 10% bf 365 days a year, she works full-time nights as an Ultrasound tech. She busts her ass at night, she's responsible for the whole dept.

If you want it, you do what it takes.  or you can cry like a bitch.

for a female 10% bf year round might not be a healthy choice...

No because I eat two meals on my bulk days. So I just skip the second one when I'm above target weight in the morning. Super easy method.

She's as healthy as they come dude. she takes amazingly good care of herself, hasn't eaten pizza in 3 years, no high fructose corn syrup or starches....ever. No Ice cream....ever.

And the thing is...she does it happily, not a complaint.....no "i wish i could eat that", nothing.

Her "cheating" is she'll knock back a few drinks occasionally. Her rationale is "at least I get something out of that, a nice buzz....what the fuck do I get from Ice Cream ?"

 Her attitude is impressive.

I'm not questioning she currently seems healthy....but 10% bf on a female is like 3-4% bf on a male...ask anyone with common sense if thats a healthy bf to be at and you should get a pretty consensus answer of no.yea people get that low for a contest.but to walk around that low year round is not wise and I would question the long term health effects of doing so...

she's naturally lean, her whole family is...she lifts weights to add size. she's 135 at 5'8" now and she was 122 before she started training.

This woman LITERALLY eats as much as i do, just waaaay cleaner.
