Yeah, they are trashing the 1/2 game suspension.  He called out Meyer for acting like he takes it seriously, yet not really doing anything about it.  He should have been gone for at least 1 or 2 games.
That guy on Oregon punched out that guy after getting taunted and look what happened to him.

There is a lot of truth in that.  Most fans who have never played would be shocked at what goes on......players pissng in their uniforms on the sidelines, spitting, pinching, crushing nuts, etc....

M&M are usually pretty stand-up and don't kowtow to the rah-rahs.

Lagerette(sp) is being reinstated today or next game...at least he missed most of season...But Oregon is now in Nat title picture so I guess they see the need for him

I played the game at a d3 level over the first half of my college career, and I can tell you that eye gouging is not part of what goes on in the pile.  Not in the way Spikes did it, anyway.  The kid tried to inflict serious damage on the kid from Georgia.  Thats not the same as whacking someone in the balls or dropping an elbow into someones chest. I'm a Spikes fan and I would love for him to drop in the draft because of this, so the Pats have a chance to get him, but Meyer really fucked up on this.  Half a game?  He should have gotten two or three games.

Doubtful.   Perhaps there is some punishment going on behind the scenes.  What Spikes did is not the same as hitting someone in the balls or throwing an elbow.  He reached into another players mask and tried to gouge his eyes for 10-15 seconds.  Thats horrible.  Meyer should be ashamed of himself.  Half a game?  What a joke.

Clearly you've never played.  Doing things that can end guys careers is looked down upon.  That includes: Diving at knees, gouging out eyeballs and trying to paralyze people.  Yes, football is a rough game, but there is a code of conduct among 99% of players.

Yes, because anyone who claims that trying to gouge out other guys eyeballs is part of the game is full of shit.  if you did play the game, I doubt you'd want Brandon Spikes gouging out your fucking eye while you lay at the bottom of a pile of linemen  ::)  You know, since you'd never be able to play again, because you have one freaking eye.

Oh, I agree, he went over the line, but the main thing is that it was clearly on display for everybody to see.  If it was alleged, nobody would be paying any attention to it, but because it was so visible you really have to do something about it.  1/2 game is a joke.

The Oregon player gets a whole season suspension for decking the Boise State player, but the LB from Florida tries to blind someone and gets 30 minutes...

Urban Meyers can shit like he wants... That player needed to be suspended for the whole season and thrown off the team...

Rough game, Yes... Street fight, No....

The punishment for this guy doesn't fit the infraction.

That football players who play the game the right way don't spend 10-15 seconds trying to remove an opponents eyeball.  It's not the norm, which makes me questions your claims of playing football at any level.  I played crappy d3 ball, and even there, most players played the game the right way.

But here's the thing...

They've been winning - and impressively so - WITHOUT him.  I'm a Duck supporter (after the Longhorns, of course), but I don't need to know the kid personally to know that this is the wrong move by the football program.

I know that we're all capable of snapping at any time, if provoked.  But we also have to understand that those meltdowns can carry severe consequences.  If it were 1959, he would've been lynched.  If it were 1989, he would've been off the team and lost his scholarship.

But in 2009, he's scolded and gets suspended for a few games.

Gotta love the modern interpretation of 'zero tolerance' and accountability.  ::) I want you all to keep the NCAA's soft stance on this in mind in the future.

Watch it, there are Gators here too ;D. By the way, how was the game for you? I figured UF's offensive wouldn't show up as strong, and had them only scoring 28 pts. I am ashamed of Spike's incident, but I guess he is following in the footsteps of a select few fellow gators :-\, or even worse, a FSU crimi-nole...

The UF/GA rivalry just isn't the same now, your dawgs need to bring us a challenge in a few years.

this is nothing uncommon in football, he just got caught.  he looks like a freaking saint compared to bill romanowski. i'm not approving of his actions, i am just not as surprised by this as some are.

if you want to read about some of the fucked up shity that goes on in the piles, read "dark side of the game" by former falcon LB Tim Green.

Going to have to disagree with you here.  What Spikes did is not the norm.  Romo was a lunatic, and his actions are not accepted by 90% of NFL players.  I agree that bad things happen in NFL piles, but it's not the norm to do things like try and gouge someones eyes out.  The norm = Flying elbows, shots to the nuts, etc.
