Utleys mom trains at my gym. She was telling me how he gets tickets for damn near everyone else but them. Pisses me off and I lost total respect for him after that.

congrats on buying another one
E

Congrats on being a whiny fag. Perhaps if the Pirates had a payroll over $25 million they would win more than 45 games a year? ::)
BOOYA HATERS. YANKS WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What have the Pirates done in the last 20 years? Good thing you losers got the Steelers to hang onto. Shame they won't be winning another SB anytime soon. :D

i never said the pirates and their mgt didn't suck, even with a cap they would still suck
what does that have to do with the yankees buying another title?
i just want fairness, like the nfl where the mighty PITTSBURGH STEELERS ARE A RECORD 6 TIME 6 TIME 6 TIME 6 TIME 6 TIME 6 TIME SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS 8) 8)

well it was 17 years ago they lost in game 7 to the braves in the nlcs :)
oh and the steelers will be just fine, the pens are a dynasty in the making
the pirates will always stink, until they get new ownership

what does that have to do with the yankees buying another title?
the thing is....every team who has money spends it or tries to, with the exception of the rays. Dont be mad the yankees can out spend everyone 8)

agreed...baseball is so boring... it is unwatchable, cant stand it and the world series isnt a world series for christ sake... the yanks are only champs for the US pro basbeball, not the world.

Hahahahaahahaaaaaa!!!!!
All these sour grapes little bitches can smell my ass.
Spending big money doesn't guarantee shit. The Mets, Dodgers, Angels ,Red cocks,Cubs, Cardinals and Phillies all spend big money.
Great TEAMS win the series, and the Yankees are a great team this year
-
No one cares, baseball sucks now. Not American anymore. Yanks are cool though!
I hear people say this sort of thing all the time but if you actually think about it, it's just not true.
Baseball still generates a massive amount of money, pro baseball players are paid massive salaries.
The MLB also still generates more sales in hats, shirts and accessories than in any other sport.
MLB wouldn't survive if fans weren't still going to games and it takes a lot of them to support it, especially considering there are 162 regular season games each year.
The way I see it for people who don't like baseball anymore, yes it can be slow at times, but some people have lost appreciation for the finer aspects of the game as well as patience for the really exciting moments that happen.
Anyway, long story short, the above couldn't be true if someone didn't care.
-
congrats on buying another one
E
Pretty much.... :-\
Baseball is such a fucking joke.
-
congrats on buying another one
E
The Yankees have the highest payroll, can't argue that. However, take away what they pay A-Rod what they pay manager Joe Girardi...I mention Giradi because managers salaries are figured into the total payroll that the players are figured into...take that out and the Yankees total payroll for the year is not that different than the Mets, Red Sox, Tigers, and pretty close to the Cubs and White Sox
-
i'm not a yankee fan but it is good for baseball cuz they are the most prolific team in the major leagues and it is good for capitalism cuz money will, eventually, always win you a title
-
Hell Yeah !!!!
Matsui was unreal
Petite pitched effectively
Pedro pitched like shit
Pedro pitched like shit , yet he allowed only 3 hits, Pettite 4, Pedro pitched same amount of Strike Outs (5) as Pettite. Pedro gave 2 BB and Pettite 5.
Congrats to the Yanks anywyas.

Best team money can buy.

Best team money can buy.
exactly
the best actual team in the Majors is the Anaheim Angels.
what i mean is it that they are a "team" not a collection of superstars who have to play together
-
Glad that Basebore is over.....now ESPN won't waste valuable time that could be spent discussing football on it.....also, my 2nd 2 and 1/2 Men rerun won't be preempted.

I have no beef with the Yankees spending money, but this argument is ridiculous. Why would you "take out" A-Rod and Girardi? if you "took out" the managers and the star player who made the most money on all the teams above, they'd be much lower in payroll also.
-

Bullshat. They can't win the big one, and haven't been able to in forever. They always choke in the 11th hour.

dude, i'm a sox fan (and i'm no bandwagoner either- i still remember the todd benziger/marty barret years) but i have no problem saying that, in my honest opinion, the angels are a great team that actually "produces" runs and plays great fundamental baseball

Petite walked five because he pitched around dangerous righties. Better standing on 1st than rounding the bases.

Angels have one of the highest payrolls out there as well.

I am the biggest Yankee fan I know, but I can't buy this rationale. You can't "take out" Arod.
But you can say that about 50 million of their payroll is paying home grown talent that became superstars (Rivera/Jeter/Posada/Pettitte). So give them credit for spending the cash to keep their core players in pinstripes for their entire career, something that is extremely rare in sports these days.

Yup, and Jackson/Montero on the way.
Robertson had the highest k/inning ratio in MLB this year. Look for him and Marte to be the set up guys next year, with Hughes and Chamberlain back to the rotation.
Cashman gets slammed to much - the Marte and Swisher trades were absolute theft.

How can you say the Yankees of 2009 aren't a great team Johnny ?
They had excellent chemistry on and off the field, played sound ball, showed heart, and didn't act like douches (Red cocks) .

Pettite won,but please try to see the thing as they are.....
Pettite won, Martinez lost, but try to see things the way they are.......
Pedro did Pitched 4 complete innings.Pettite 5.2 .......
In less innings Pedro stroke out 5, same as Pettite
Pedro Allowed just 3 hits (one was a poor fielding by Victorino)....
You say Petitte walked 5 because he was pitching around "dangerous" rightties.
So I guess Pedro gave only 2 walks because the Yankees line up is not as "dangerous" then.
Congrats to the Yankees anyways!

So what are you saying? That pedro was better?
Petite went deeper and gave up less runs, and won the game BTW.
But don't let the truth color your argument....must be a Nasser fan

Yanks won.they played better then all the other teams.it's a simple as that.
better pitching.best closer of all time.better D.better O.didn't make the errors and mistakes the other teams did=World Series champs 8)

Ratings beg to differ with you.

HEHEHEHE!! You think that a rinky dink mini tournament such as the World Baseball Classic means anything? Any tournament where the very best players in the world are not playing, not going full speed and not a best of 5 or best of 7 series to test the depth of the teams is not a World Championship. The World Series is the closes thing to it.
Listen, this Yankees team as its constituted would embarrass any of the World Baseball Classic teams in a best of 7 series. ANY OF THEM!!!

Hey, Pedro said years ago that the Yankees were his daddy. Straight out of his mouth. The Yanks proved him right last night. Again.

THE yankees outplayed the twins, outsmarted the angels, outdid the phillies,,the yanks were able to tear down, wear out all these teams with consistent key hits, walks, great defense and better bench help ,and a better than avg bullpen.

That's true, but what does that have to do with the Angels (the team Johnny and I are discussing, currently)..
-
Yes! All the Yankee fans lives will be exactly the same today.
Joe the plumber, will be Joe the plumber.
Arod will be counting his bonus check and working on his next contract.
It always amazes me how the media plays this out, and the sheep just buy right into the money machine....pro sports. ;)
You think pro athletes really give a shit about these fans...haha, it's joke. There's no such thing as "team" for the past few decades. Trades happen all the time. Biggest bankroll usually wins.
The 3rd grade called, they want their Yankee fans back...haha
-

oh yeah, well 1st you need career yrs from some of your better players, which with angles they had vlad, lackey injured most of the yr,they scored alot of runs this yr and as usual other than morales and vlad they don't have a true power hitter that could bring the team back. in there division they own everyone and the rangers could out hit them but not do the other things.2002 they beat the yanks who would have been going to the world series back to back to back,2000,01,but they beat the yanks to stop them in 02 ,they were tough bunch, eckstein, young lackey, prime vlad.glaus.

Hey, Pedro said years ago that the Yankees were his daddy. Straight out of his mouth. The Yanks proved him right last night. Again.
Cooperstown would care about strikes and walks , Thats what makes a great pitcher just look who will be th CY in the American league this year a picher from the worst team! KC, dont give Pedro credit if you dont want to, Yes he did lose, but my point is that it wasnt like he pitched like shit like some clown said, Pettite won but it wasnt as dominant against Pedro If you look at the stats of that game alone....Pedro can say whatever he wants about the yankees daddy, mommy, sister etc.... at the end of the day he is the only pitcher in the history of the game with more than 200 wins an just 100 losses,

OK, how about this, a few years back the Diamondbacks, a team with one of the smallest payroll in baseball beat the Yankees, the team with the biggest payroll in the world series.
Teams this year, Minnesota, Colorado and St. Louis, both who were in the playoffs and both had two payrolls very far down the ladder.
6 other teams had higher payrolls than Philadelphia.
I'm not saying the team payrolls are meaningless...I'm saying they are simply not the whole story. If that were the case the Yankees would win every single year but it's been nearly ten years since they have.
-
the beef yankers didnt beat the angels the angels lost it. it could have gone either way but we just had too many errors that cost us a couple games but truely they had a bought team this year it clearly shows with hideki matsui ::) im not saying money always wins but i am saying that they had a huge advantage on there players and theyre batting averages as they had alot of players that you really cant pitch too as well as arod who is a riod user ::)
-
The Yankees and Redsox extreme payrolls haven't guaranteed them a world series.....but For the most part it does guarantee them a spot in the playoffs......and thats with them being in the same division...Imagine how bad it would be if they werent....
-
You know, you just can't win being a Yankee fan. Last year everyone got on the "your team sucks, you spent X dollars on payroll and couldn't even make the playoffs" bandwagon. This year, it's back to "buying a championship". Make up your minds, you can't have it both ways.
And for all those fans of the other "small market" teams out there, quit with the sour grapes, and tell your owners to invest some of that money they take home every year, instead of running their franchise like a business.
I'm a Yankee fan living in Philly. With all the money the Phillies raked in from being the champs last year in merchandise and everything else, plus filling the ballpark all year this year; Phillies fans have to sit there and listen to their GM, Amaro, tell the press that "they don't think they can afford Halliday's contract" before the trade deadline last year.
C'mon
-

When the difference between last season and this one goes beyond 400 millions dollars you can only wonder bro'.
-
You do realize they CUT their payroll from last year to this year, right man?
-
good point, the titles they won in the 90's were mostly home grown players
they tried this entire decade to buy one, they finally got it
E
Over 40% of their 25 man roster was from the farm system this year.
Jeter/Rivera/Pettitte/Posada/Roberston/Cabrerra/Hughes/Chamberlain/Garnder/Cano.
You're stating common misconceptions that aren't factual. The Dynasty teams of the 90s were loaded with free agents and those acquired by trade, as well as home grown talent.
It doesn't matter where they come from, as long as they're good. Home grown superstar talent just gives the teams more flexibility during the years they control the player.
-
The Yankees and Redsox extreme payrolls haven't guaranteed them a world series.....but For the most part it does guarantee them a spot in the playoffs......
This is about it, although I would say it gives them the best CHANCE at the playoffs. After that, there's too many variables that can happen in a short series to guarantee anything.
-
there should be a cap in baseball anyone that thinks otherwise is being naive...there should also be a minimum a team must spend.....

I have no problem with the Yankees spending, but calling the Sox payroll massive is a stretch. The sox payroll is a lot lower than the Yankees.
New York Yankees $201,449,189
New York Mets $149,373,987
Chicago Cubs $134,809,000
Boston Red Sox $121,745,999
Detroit Tigers $115,085,145
Los Angeles Angels $113,709,00
Philadelphia Phillies $113,004,046
Houston Astros $102,996,414
Los Angeles Dodgers $100,414,592
Seattle Mariners $98,904,166
Atlanta Braves $96,726,166
Chicago White Sox $96,068,500
San Francisco Giants $82,616,450
Cleveland Indians $81,579,166
Toronto Blue Jays $80,538,300
-
I have no problem with the Yankees spending, but calling the Sox payroll massive is a stretch. The sox payroll is a lot lower than the Yankees.
But they do have the means to increase it. If I were a sox fan, I'd be pissed if they penny pinch this offseason.
Also, I'd pissed if the Yankees spent less. If the Yankees dropped their payroll to 150M (which they could do and still be the highest), all that would mean are the owners are getting richer.

If that were the case the Yankees would win every single year but it's been nearly ten years since they have.
they did not have the smallest payroll in baseball, not even close
using steroids doesn't gaurantee you'll hit home runs, but it makes the chances of a home run greater right?
the yankees are a contender every year because they spend money, that gives them a significant and unfair advantage
if they don't give $423 million to cc sabathia, aj burnett, and mark texiera would they have won? a rod alone makes more than entire teams combined
how is that "fair" in baseball but not fair in other sports?

Over 40% of their 25 man roster was from the farm system this year.
Jeter/Rivera/Pettitte/Posada/Roberston/Cabrerra/Hughes/Chamberlain/Garnder/Cano.
You're stating common misconceptions that aren't factual. The Dynasty teams of the 90s were loaded with free agents and those acquired by trade, as well as home grown talent.
It doesn't matter where they come from, as long as they're good. Home grown superstar talent just gives the teams more flexibility during the years they control the player.
do they win this year without arod, matsui, burnett, sabathia, damon, texiera?????
most teams can't afford one of thouse guys let alone all of them ::)

I would think any team that subtracted their best players wouldn't win. Why does that only pertain to NY?

because they're the only ones that could dish out more than a half billion dollars for them

So you think the Yankees owners should pocket all the money, get rich, so that the Kansas City Royals can have a shot?
The Yankees and the other big market teams basically fund MLB, through revenue sharing licensing agreements, luxury tax, and road attendance.

there should be a salary cap
works for other sports

I don't think it would benefit baseball as a whole.
Baseball's not hurting, and there's only been two repeat champions this decade. Same as football.

of course you don't think so, you're a yankee fan
worked for every other sport, somehow baseball is the exception it would never work ::)

The problem is small markets housing teams where no one gives a shit about baseball. The Red Sox manage to generate about 80% of the Yankees yearly revenue in a market that is much smaller than New York. My point is this: yes, The Yankees have an unfair advantage on many teams (the revenue difference between the Yankees and the Sox is roughly the same as the disparity between the Marlins and the Sox), but the difference is that the Red Sox have the means to compete due to the interest level in their market. Markets that don't produce a certain amount of revue should be cut.
The solution is housing teams in markets that can support a competitive operation, and forcing teams to all spend the same portion of their revenue on payroll.
Lastly. overspending for players does not guarantee success.

Ever hear of revenue sharing chooch?

Yes, but revenue sharing does not force teams to spend the same amount on their payrolls. For example, the Yankees spent 62% of their overall revenue on payroll this year, and the Red Sox spent 48%.

How has it worked for the other sports? The same teams are good year in and year out in football. The Patriots are a well-run organization that is always competitive while teams like the Browns and Rams consistently suck.

who are the small markets that don't care?
no overspending doesn't gaurantee success, just like using steroids and hgh doesn't gaurantee you will hit 40 home runs
it's still gives you a major advantage

That's right, and the fact that the Yankees spend a higher % on payroll is their choice and why they are always highly competitive. Other teams choose to pocket the money and show a profit.

Tampa Bay. Tampa is a top market in the US, they put a great team on the field year after year, and they can't sell out the stadium when their team is deep in the playoffs. There should not be a team there, period.

Correct, so get rid of these teams in shitty markets that can't generate adequate revenue, and regulate the percentage that every team MUST spend on payroll, and viola, you have a better MLB.
It's a fucking disgrace that Tampa couldn't sell out their stadium the year before last during their WS run. Tampa is a warm weather, top 15 market in the US....pitiful.

how hasn't it worked for other sports? hockey adds a cap and all of a sudden the penguins can maintain their best players and they win a cup
could indianapolis afford peyton manning without a cap? he would be making more than a rod if jerry jones and daniel snyder could throw their money at him
the rams consistently suck? 10 years ago they won a super bowl and were an elite team until about 2003, the patriots used to be a bad team, they made good personnel moves and caught lightning in a bottle drafting brady in the 6th round, arguably the best qb ever
brady took less money so they could fit more good players under the cap, can you imagine A rod doing that?
every year you can say that each nfl team has a chance to make the playoffs, can you say the same about baseball?
the nfl adds a cap and the cowboys haven't won a playoff game ever since, the redskins try as hard as any team to win but they draft bad and give too much money to average players like antwan randle el
teams like the lions and browns are bad because of poor management, poor drafting, poor free agent signings not because they don't have as much money as other teams

the problem with tampa and most of florida is a lot of their residents are from the northeast
if milwaukee, kansas city, and pittsburgh had a team as good as tampa's last year they would sell out every game
the pens sold 5000 tickets in a 16000 seat arena per game when they were the worst in the league in 2004, they currently have sold out nearly 100 straight games and have better local FSN ratings than any other american city
baseball is bigger than hockey, if the pirates could compete they would be bigger than the pens in town
