where are you going to work out now chaos
-
hahaha lolol
that pf is a lot nicer than the one that i go to.
surprised the mirror didn't break.
1st time i heard what the "lunk alarm" lol sounds like. ::)
wonderin what the issue was for the girl to go over in the first place, maybe he was gruntin'.
look, its that kinda gym so you gotta expect it. start gettin like that and it only proves their point.
the one I go to is ok,,, just because you see the same people everyday for a couple years and its just like any other gym except,,, well its planet fitness lol ::)
the only good machines are the ones in the circuit and you can't use em' unless your going through it so,,, I sneak in once and a while for a few quick sets others,,, i stick to the db's, pulldowns, pullup & dips, sometimes smithmachine, leg press ext & curls and thats it.
i try to be cool because cool with the people that work there, so they let me get away with a lot but I don't like to put them in that position because some members would b!tch and pretty cool with most members too so.
point is why push it, only use it when i have to, otherwise be cool.
that meltdown was supercool to watch but that guy coulda handled it better, gives everyone else a bad rap. bet that guy wouldn't have done that if the pf worker was a jacked up dude instead of a 100lb girl.
-
What a fucking tool. Should know better than joining a gym w/purple equipment. Tough guy throwing a fit around a girl and some twinks. ::)
-
Isn't that the place where they kick you out for grunting?

Another example of teaching the public that you don't have to train hard to make progress and turning them into drones.

It varies. I think some go as high as 80 lbs. That must a power-lifting Planet Fitness. ;D

Yep.

QFT
the one i go to only has 60's... lol
like i said i have oly weights, dbs, great bench, decline to incline every 10 degrees and a squat rack/cage with over under pulley so,,, real gym at home and the pf is just to get out and use it as a supplemental workout and social time.
could still get some good workouts in where ever with what ever,,, 8)

Oh, no doubt. I've trained with less. It's just funny to me, that's all....
-
he should be glad that mirror didnt break could you imagine seven years bad luck ontop of not being able to train at planet fitness
-
Oh, no doubt. I've trained with less. It's just funny to me, that's all....
laugh to myself everytime i walk in the joint.
funny thing about it, just like any other gym you still get people leaving plates on the smith,,, like twinks leavin dimes on each side and walkin away.
the other day one guy was on the peck deck doin one arm and with a phone to his ear with the other,,, then switch... kept right on talkin...
bunch o twinks tonight loaded up a smith with 3 plates a side and hit those deep dish eigth of an inch reps... of course you know when it comes to benchin' they go for the full quarter of an inch reps.
not unlike any other gym, just more extremes and more frequent. lol
all the stuff we getbiggers mock on a daily can be seen constantly at any planet fitness... yes its what gyms are comming to. ::)
the week after new years the one i'm at signed up about 1,000 new members, in a week. granted those people will go 3 times a week for a month for new years reso then stop until may-june to get ready for the summer, lol. the key is, they wont cancel the membership because it's so cheap, 10 or 20 mnth,,, pf knows what its doin. ::)
feel good in the fact that we geetbiggers are the exact image they are trying oh so desperately to avoid. :P
hence the big grin on my face when i walk in.
-
The Lunk Alarm....hahahahahahaha. ;D
Never been to a PF before. Hard to believe they have a "Lunk Alarm". ;D
-
an alarm LOL ::)
-
takes a cool million to open a planet fitness and most do very well...

Detailed description...
QUESTION: When is a ski-hat not a ski-hat?
ANSWER: When it’s on the head of a black man, then it becomes a do-rag.
I terminated my almost 20 year membership and friendship (I thought) with David DiSabato, the owner of the Planet Fitness Gym in Columbus, Ohio, after he told me that the combination of my muscular body (I’m 5 ft. 10 in. and weigh 180 lbs) and my do-rag (it wasn’t a do-rag, it was a ski-hat) made his new target audience (overweight middle-aged white women) feel uncomfortable.
Even though I had been a member without anyone complaining about me for almost 20 years, I was now declared too muscular and too ethnic looking (i.e. scary looking) to be part of Planet Fitness’ new little country club.
Planet Fitness’ dress code policy is racially and religiously biased (see hyperlink item PF845 below)
http://www.northeastcolor.com/pf/pfpkg.html
It targets African-American men (do-rags), Latinos (bandanas), and Jewish and Muslim men (skull caps). I’m black, so even though I wasn’t wearing a do-rag, by default my ski-hat was declared too ethnic looking and I was accosted by four Planet Fitness employees and the owner of the club, David DiSabato.
Planet Fitness stereotypes men (Lunk Alarm = Dumb Jock Alarm) and forces out muscular men of all colors (yes even white men) who during their intense workouts might make some noise. (hyperlink Item PF300)
http://www.northeastcolor.com/pf/pfpkg.html
Notice how there is no female equivalent of the Lunk Alarm. The insulting cartoon character in Planet Fitness advertisements feature a man, not a man and a woman.
Every 15-20 minutes, via the gym’s sound system, Planet Fitness members are forced to listen to the following man-bashing public service announcement:
“REMEMBER AT PLANET FITNESS, THERE’S NO LUNKS, NO BODYBUILDERS, NO CRITICS”
All of the heavy equipment men are most likely to use has been removed, further discriminating against men of all colors who take their workouts seriously.
To recap, here is Planet Fitness’ four way attack against men of all colors:
1. Behavior: grunting or dropping weights whether on purpose or by accident results in public humiliation via the Lunk Alarm: An ear piercing siren with a flashing blue light.
2. Appearance: Racially and religiously biased dress code that targets African-American, Latino, Jewish, and Muslim men.
3. Atmosphere: Insulting cartoon character signs. Man-bashing public service announcement.
4. Facility: Removal of all the equipment in-shape men are most likely to use.
Good luck to the remaining men at Planet Fitness. Let’s hope you don’t realize that you’ve been neutered by the Planet Fitness money making machine that caters to insecure women and encourages its members to remain out of shape and overweight with its Bagel Mornings, Pizza Evenings, and all the Tootsie Rolls you can eat. Planet Fitness men just be aware that the minute you lose the fat and gain muscle, you’ll be labeled a Lunk and your days with Planet Fitness will be numbered. And men of color, don’t you dare walk into Planet Fitness with any sort of head covering. You’ll be labeled as being too ethnic looking. You’ll be treated like a criminal and hastily escorted to the nearest exit.
I’ve moved on. I found a better gym; it’s more expensive than Planet Fitness, but it’s a gym that judges me only on the content of my character, not on my gender, the color of my skin, or the ethnicity of my clothing. Amazingly enough, even though I was declared too scary looking to workout with overweight middle-aged white women at Planet Fitness, in my new gym I workout with, you guessed it, overweight middle-aged white women! However, unlike the Planet Fitness women, these women aren’t prejudice toward my black muscular ethnic appearance.
Now that I’ve liberated myself from the hostile Planet Hypocrite environment I’m very happy. However, the bitter after taste of being judged in the “Judgment Free Zone” will stay with me for the rest of my life. (see Items PF275 and PF200)

QFT on everything Tre,,,
the one i go to though,,, like 75% of the members are "ethnic" thats just the area the complex/store is in...
years ago when the pf lunk threads were posted on getbig,,, i never heard of nor seen a pf, then finally one opened near me... i was wondering back then how they were gonna combat the people they deam "not wanted there" well,,, they cant, not were we are. the only thing they do there is they do enforce the no "doorag" policy, skull cap what ev,,, no matter what color you are,,, seen girls get away with it though, lol
sure they have the middle aged outta shape men & women, twinks and everything else but alotta blue collar people that get outta work late and like the 24 hr mon-thurs hours so...
just the area i'm in :) some hardcore folks go there,,, suprisingly,,, peeps bringing dip belts with the chains hangin plates on dips, lol, exactly what the franchise doesn't want. pack a chaps doin muscle-ups, upside down pull-ups. its great.

Hardcore Gyms,A Thing Of The Past
By: Tim Wescott
I'm about to say quite a bit about the sad state of affairs in most gyms today, and I know I will offend some people, but... too bad! It makes me sad to see the gyms of today, and their participants, wandering around aimlessly from fancy machine, to fancy machine, in quest of something most of them don't know how to find.
I'm talking about learning how to achieve results, with their meager half-hearted efforts. Most of the people in gyms today don't have a clue why they are there, or what they are trying to accomplish. Sure, Mary might want to lose some weight, but she usually doesn't have a clue as to how to go about it. I know this may sound harsh to some, but back in the day, newbies in the gym learned a lot from bodybuilders and more experienced lifters.
Bodybuilders and powerlifters are actually frowned upon these days in most gyms. It's a shame because these people should be used as inspiration, and watching them train could benefit a lot of people.
As far as giving them a clue as to what intensity level is required to actually get results from their training... Gyms back in the seventies and eighties, were really gyms, and not fluffy, frilly, "Fitness Centers," trying to pass themselves off as gyms. People worked together in pursuit of their goals, and learned from each other.
Today's Gyms
Today's gyms, and I use the term loosely, are too caught up in making money, and could care less about their clients progress, or lack of progress, as is usually the case. There's too many people that don't have clear-cut goals, and know nothing about training, even though there are "personal trainers" at most gyms.
Personal Trainers:
The sad part is a lot of the personal trainers I've seen know very little themselves, and most look like they can't get out of their own way. If you are going to train people, at least look like you train a little yourself. I call these half-@ssed personal trainers, "professional rep counters," as that's about all they are doing that is correct, in their approach to training clients.
Fad Fitness Items:
Another thing I find ridiculous today is fad fitness items. Swiss Balls, rubber tubing, medicine balls, and TV sets, are a bunch of junk, that should be kept out of a serious gym. Do you really believe that doing crunches on a big blue ball, is any better than doing them on a floor, or a bench?
On A Ball Or On The Floor:
Does It Really Make A Difference?
Stabilizers come into play more with the Swiss Balls some would say. Stabilizers also come into play when squatting like an animal for 20 reps, with a heavy weight, but that's too much like work. I guess I'm just "old fashioned," but give me a gym full of sweaty, hard working animals, who are hungry to grow, and make progress, any day.
Squatting Will Work Your Stabilizers Just As Well As Any Ball Crunch.
Quiet Please:
Today if you lift anything remotely heavy, or make the slightest grunt while squeezing out a hard rep, you get asked to tone down the noise. Don't even think of chalking your hands, you might get some on the spotless floor. What do these people think a vacuum cleaner was invented for?
Hardcore Gyms
I've trained at 4 hardcore gyms, at different times, for years, places where you made progress, and other people in the gym were genuinely concerned about you making that progress. It was no-holds barred, all for the betterment of the guys working out. If you didn't train your @ss off, you were considered a wimp.
Sadly, it is getting increasingly harder to find a good ol' sweatshop type of gym, where results are demanded. Today I see people come to the gym religiously, every day, only to talk, roam around, use the same weight forever, usually one plate on some contraption, for months at a time, gab on their cell phones, or some other practice that has nothing to do with staying focused on their training. These same people wonder why they do not make progress.
Ask a typical trainee in today's gym why he or she does a particular exercise, and what part of the body that exercise is for, and they look at you like you asked them for their wallet.
I think if you're going to workout, then you should at least have a basic understanding of the exercises, and body parts they work. Maybe even sweating a little once in a while would be productive. I really miss the "old school" gyms, and the animals that inhabited them. You can take this rant with "tongue in cheek," but I won't.
Train Hard!
Disclaimer
I obviously (I hope), meant this article to be taken with a healthy dose of sarcasm, but I hope I opened people's eyes to the fact that they should ask questions at the gym (not while someone is training), and do a little research, before beginning their program. Learn about what you are doing, and you'll do it better.
STAY PUMPED!

I was about to go nuts on a dude in the gym yesterday, usually Im pretty focused on my own workout so nothing really botheres me, But he was standing to my left, not to far away, deadlifting 130 pound, and after a few reps every single set he SLAMS it to the ground, not just drops it etc, but SLAMS IT.
EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME.
Not only did he slam that weight, BUT he did supersets right after the HUGE DL with a 40pound mini bar which he ALSO SLAMMED.
and the sound is loud, so he went to get water and I decide if he does it again, Im gonna have to let him know wtf he is doing lol.
and he comes back and takes off the weights,
I dont like to complain on other people bodys either but he lookes like a sack of 110 pound shit.
fucking hell.
Ofc no one believes me because I always and always lie.
-
One of the few videos which doesn't even seem fake or staged. :D

I concur. Gyms are now full of fancy machines that serve very litlle purpose, less and less free weights, most people load but do not unload, they'll stand and exercise in front of the weight racks, shadow box, occasionally throw in a failed roundhouse kick, you'll get to overhear some BS advice from so called PTs, and the list goes on and on. A few grunts would be music to my ears nowadays.
-
I hear ya` bro. :(
-
Isn't that the place where they kick you out for grunting?
yup, and that's probably his crime ::) Some of the comments are right, he shouldn't have joined that shithole in the first place. On the meltdown, Planet Fitness bought it, they can live with it. I would LOL if some people here joined that place just to toss shit around like that ;D fuck them.
-
Someone should start a paypal fund to pay people to go in to that place and do that. More money to the person with the biggest meltdown. I would pitch in :) Extra if you have them running in fear.
-
Another example of teaching the public that you don't have to train hard to make progress and turning them into drones.
Sad truth
Regarding the gayness of the gym - dude was right...
-
The guy and the gym are a douche pair made in heaven.
-
I like that guy handsfree life, no need for a bag, or jacket or anything just rolling handsfree baby..thats the way to go.
-
i don't know how the fact that the mirror didn't break isn't bigger news- that was pretty awesome
btw, PF is everything wrong with this politically correct fitness world (along with P90x) however ALOT of hot girls go to the PF in my area
-

Even better would be to do all that while being there on a complementary pass to try the place out.

The one by me goes up to 80s or 85s i think......Dam, sounds like a dam tornado siren!!! haha classic ;D but dude did go a little overboard especially with a girl.
-
Fucker is weak. A real getbigger would have shanked her, had sex with her on the bench while admiring his physique in the indestructible mirror and then did ATM, pulled up his striped spandex shorts, did a few reps of biceps in the squat rack, took an upper decker dump in the toilet and then left.

and then he should thrown the hissy fit.
But, he knew the rules, and he might have done it before and was warned. Does anybody know if you get a warning and if you do it again you get thrown out?

He should have took a massive SH IT in front of her face, that rubber mirror must be a sign that dumbell throwing while the horn goes off happens quit often

And that silly fucker filming this called it 'roid rage' while he isn't even capable to hold the camera/phone ::)
I don't understand why a serious lifter even considers to join Planet F(l)atness with so many negative reviews on the web

Lifestyle Family Fitness is the same way but they have great equipment. Lifestyles is so bad that they have actually walked up to me while doing stand up curls offering me a coupon to some new fucking seafood restaurant. I had my ipod in but they were just looking and hoping that i would take out my earplugs... ::) ::)

What a terrible name that gym has ;D I don't understand why those gyms invest in great equipment without using it, it's like cruisin in a Ferrari.
While there are better equipped gyms in my town (I was member of two of them) I decided to train in a noncommercial weightlifting club with old but decent stuff (no squat rack, no smithmachine, no shower, no vid screens, no women).
Now I can listen to Disturbed, grunt, fart, make wrong jokes with my best progress so far as a result :)

It needs great self control not to freak out to that bitch :-X

Did that siren go off because he was grunting and or dropping the dumbbells? Imagine getting scolded after you just finished a set? It seems these gyms exist for out of shape people to join to pretend they are getting in shape. It really is ashame that these type gyms are big money makers.
What he did could have gotten him arrested but I do understand his reaction. I train in my basement. No loser trainer can tell me what to do.
Bodybuilding gyms are close to a thing of the past. Gyms that cater to out of shape people who quit in three weeks after signing a long contract is the client they want.
I wouldn't lable this guy a douche. A Getbigger maybe but not a douche.
-
Makes me wanna go and sign up to that gym for just a month, just to grunt and yell like Layne Norton WITH of course the least LEAST minimal weight possible just so they can continuously sound that alarm for 3 hours a day for a month and irritate the rest of of the morons that go their

What he did could have gotten him arrested but I do understand his reaction. exactly, he was probally never arrested before and thats why he thought he could act like that, otherwise he wouldn't I train in my basement. No loser trainer can tell me what to do. me too
Bodybuilding gyms are close to a thing of the past. Gyms that cater to out of shape people who quit in three weeks after signing a long contract is the client they want. yes there are more people out of shape than in shape,,, bigger market = more money,,, it's business.
I wouldn't lable this guy a douche. A Getbigger maybe but not a douche. chump or baby would be better, when throwing a fit like that, no excuse and he wasn't even in any kind of great shape, again that wouldn't be an excuse. he is obviously not a professional at anything in life, not with an act like that,,, there is a term, class act or grace under pressure/fire... again not defending them, i think its dumb policy too but so does everyone that joins, you know the policy if you dont like it dont pay & play, go somewhere else, doing garbage like that just gives everyone that is for real hardcore a bad rep. theres a way to do things and a way not. being over 18 and acting like a child or some pseudo roid rage tantrum is not.
not defending them, i do go there but as an added supplement to my real home workouts, gets me out in a social enviorment and all that bs,,, and like I stated in the qoute up there,,, there a far more out of shape people than in shape people so it's smart business to cater to them. anyone can join but its their house their rules,,, very similar to the situation we have here on getbig, rons house his rule in regards to the banning & censoring,,, some things slide and some don't, very similar situations. way to do things and ways not to, like anything else.
if no one likes it dont join, I personally think the gym is a total joke but I go and follow the rules, mostly, again people are people and some are cool so its a give and take,,, they give but sometimes i don't take too much because I'd like them to keep their jobs or at least not get hassled by newer members. people thinking they out to change the policies are crazy, not gonna happen, the money is in the majority, hardcore people are def the minority, and truly hardcore people, if they choose to workout there have enough respect for themselves, play along and catch decent workouts anyway. remember seeing that said people that are in great shape is 1% of the us population. not much money to be made there if you own a gym. anyone thats owns anykind of business understands this mentality.

haha imagine if he got outside and realized he forgot his keys inside the gym

Why are you defending this gym is beyond me. The guy is just working out minding his own buisness when he gets verbally attacked. A siren and a verbal beat down for dropping a dumbbell or groaning through a set? Of course it's more profitible to cater to the masses but why would you go out of your way to get rid of the top of the bell curve is puzzling. I'm not out to change their policies. I'm just stating their policy goes against anyone who is seriously into fitness. Their gym is garbage if you're a real bodybuilder or even into elite fitness. Again I can't see how you post on getbig and defend a gym that's against a bodybuilder. If a gym is anti (top 1%) fuck them. I also don't care what their profit margin is or what their motivation is for treating this guy like crap. I'll defend my fellow lifter and you can pound the drum with a rationalization of profit margins justification for treating customers like shit.

I started off by stating I'm not defending them. Making an observation about "both sides of a coin",,, seeing from both points of view. Again, there is a right way to do something and a wrong way to do something,,, defending a "fellow lifter" for throwing a tantrum like a child, get real. throwing that db was stupid,,, yell scream, carry on, what ever but that could have ended up bad for someone innocent,,, ie db bounces off and cracks someone in the head, or glass breaks and pieces go in someone eyes, everyone gets the picture. that guy probally wouldn't have reacted that way if some jacked dude employee approached him.
AGAIN, not defending the gym, just observing the fact that business is business,,, anyone that owns a business would understand that to sacrifice 1% of your clientele for the other 99 is the only smart move. cant please everybody all the time, so you go with the most. anyone who owns their own or did, feel free to chime in.
Who knows if he was verbally attacked,,, there was no discernable audio,,, and how fragile he must have been to be verbally attacked by a 100lb chick, again get real.
"Again I can't see how you post on getbig and defend a gym that's against a bodybuilder"
it's because I am a bodybuilder and have been for the past 10 yrs. and involved with the sport on many different levels, worked in gyms etc., that I can talk and be unbiased in an observation. kinda what bb'n is in essence, unbiased observations about physiques, whether it be your own or someone elses.
"The guy is just working out minding his own buisness when he gets verbally attacked" we dont know what was said. stating the policy does not count as verbal attacking.
"I'll defend my fellow lifter and you can pound the drum with a rationalization of profit margins justification for treating customers like shit."
we don't know if he was treated like sh!t,,, all we know is he was approached and spoken to and we saw his reaction. which, again, he probally never had any run ins with the law because he wouldn't have reacted that way. The business has the right, any business to enforce its policies, which any member of that gym are well aware of. It's like going to the supermarket and filling up your cart and leaving without paying,,, what, they're not supposed to approach you and tell you to pay. again, it's not like the girl threw something at him, or acted violently or put her hands on him.
"I'm just stating their policy goes against anyone who is seriously into fitness"
I agree with you, yes it does.
in the free market people are free to open a hardcore gym,,, they are closing because small percent of "anyone who is seriously into fitness" is too small to make profit for them so hence they close. weekend warriors outnumber us "hardcore bbr's" so they get the gyms to cater to them. throwing childlike hissy fits in those gyms do nothing for "our cause" only strengthen views against us and justify their policies, along with potential arrest for the hissy fit throwers.
"Their gym is garbage if you're a real bodybuilder or even into elite fitness"
yes I agree with you. however a good/real bodybuilder can get great workouts by making the best of whats around that he has to work with. where there is a will there is a way. my friends at war in the desert didn't have state of the art gyms nor any real equipment at all, yet they rigged up some pullies with sand bags attached,,, lifted sand bags weights, etc. they made do because it's about resistance on the muscle. there are countless stories in history about people doing similar,,, rigging up home gyms with buckets of water etc. gotta have heart. actually state of the art gyms are too fluff sometimes for hardcore peeps too. everyone here gets my point I think.
Again, I have a gym at home, basement style 8), oly weights, cage, basics. thats all anyone really needs. the pf gym is supplemental, for easy light db work, cables, leg machines and once in a while smith. instead of hangin at the bar,,, hang there. it's not a bb gym, nor hardcore gym, you know that when you sign up.mcdonalds doesnt have burgerking on the menu,,, fast food joints,,, pick and choose, free market.
everyone here knows I live and love bodybuilding without question and been on here a while oldtimer, re-read my essay length (lol) posts in this thread. I think the policies are dumb, of course it's sad that they cater to fat middle aged men & women, scared coward twinks that are afraid of "gangs" because of people wearing certain hats, but there are the lions and sheep in this world. everyone knows what they are inside and it can make you sick to see others that are different but there is a right way to do something and a wrong way, thats my point.
I'm for real. look, someone tell me I'm way off here, for real.
btw Oldtimer,
we joined this site a month apart, I'm 1 month older than you though oldtimer :D lol
guessing by your name you may be in your 30's-40's so you would know that carrying on the way that guy did was outta line. I'm young but maybe I'm oldschool but, that looked selfish to me, no matter what the girl said. flagrant disregard for the safety/well being of other fellow lifters in the gym when he threw that db. he had no regard for other lifters with that action and he deserves no defense, he's not your fellow lifter acting like that. he didn't care about anyone but himself at that moment why defend him. you would have handled it different.

how come the lunk alarm didnt go off when he threw the dumbell

how come the lunk alarm didnt go off when he threw the dumbell
lol
maybe he didn't throw it hard enough... :-\
the one in my gym isn't even hooked up,,, half the time the light isn't even on the board and theres no wires to connect anyway. it's bs in the one I go to. again, it's located in a "semi-urban" area so, they don't get too crazy with the policies as they prob do in yuppie areas.
again gotta cater to the majority so...
-
Lion, I'm not defending his actions and I am only defending the way they he was treated.
I have been lifting for over 35 years in many gyms. These new gyms are shocking in their policies and I guess you know I'll never train at one of them. It's the new trend with all gyms is how they advertise in effect that men who are in shape don't train here.
His actions is more than probable cause to get arrested and convicted. You state you're not defending the gym but you go on forever defending them.

American slang (I guess) very stupid person. Low IQ. Usually used with the term 'Lunkhead'. Not commonly used by it's self, like "what a lunk". Next week we will work on the American inner city expression 'mofo'.
