Now they should be screening Olympia's on big screens. Then the people of Haiti would be truly happy.

Haha brutal dumping of excess inventory to take a charitable donation tax write-off.  Syntha-6 is exactly what Haiti needs.  ::)

Seriously, I am not trying to play the iceman here. I watch this shit and feel absolutely nothing. Obviously I'm not pleased but I really don't care much or seem to have any empathy for the people caught up in this little rock-slide. In fact, it's very boring now and I am so disinterested I almost didn't post this thread as I thought I would have to at least pretend that I give a little bit of shit - which I don't.

Maybe the uncomfortable truth is that I just don't give a fuck about poor people in the third world. Maybe I need some kind of paradigm shift in my thinking and emotional outlook?

You don't need to donate your life savings and start sobbing like a feminist about the atrocities... but just feel a bit of empathy for poor, uneducated fuckers in a violent ass country who just got royally fucked by multiple natural disasters. Their lives were shit before, now they're having buildings collapse with no one to pull their asses out. And if they do make it out, there's virtually no food or medicine to help them recover hastily. The politically correct term is "being fucked in the ass with no spit".

Most people in North America are pampered, cynical assholes. I'm far from a bleeding heart but there sure are some arrogant pricks out there. Next time you're fucked in the ass with no lube, don't complain that it hurts. It will fall upon deaf ears.

Dustin, I take your point but I don't really feel much empathy. I'd like to...not pleased that I don't seem to care about it. Maybe I shouldn't share this?

Regarding the "getting fucked in the ass"..the people in the third world are almost always being fucked by their governments - who in turn steal and plunder the aid the west sends them.

They also have too many kids: No money, no food, no job, let's make our 14th child!

Maybe it's cause you don't know or have not known any different. Let's face it, here in the States, even the poor have it pretty well. You think the "ghetto" is bad? You should see some of the places in Mexico, and further south.  :'(

I hope you show at least as much empathy for people in your own family, your own friends, your own gf, your own kids, your own community, people in your town/city... It's often easier to "feel " empathy for people you never seen, you dont even know and who are from the oposite side of the world ironically, than for those who truly need it 1 feet away from you.

Hypocrit.

EDIT: btw, if BSN wants to do something nice, why not send some of it's contracted Neanderthals to do some labor in Haiti? Oh no, diarrhea inducing snake oil is much better than labor or god forbid, money.  ::)

Giving a high protein RTD drink to people that really need any form of protein is honorable.  Kodus for BSN for actually doing something instead of just watching.

The fact that you dont care about others in our world is not good.  Any one, at any time, can have troubles and hardships, and thankfully, there are people who are willing to help. Whether it is in the US or around the world, contributing to charities that actually help is rewarding.

I am glad you are not in a position that you need anything. Glad you are self sufficient, have a computer, have food on your table, a place to live, a car to drive and spending money.  Many people in this world do not.

Yes, Haiti has been a problem with corrupt governments, and much more.  But the people that live there never deserve anything like this.  The earthquake destroyed a lot, killed many.  People and companies are willing to help.

P.S. As  for the tax writeoff, great.  I wish more companies and people would send charitable tax writeoffs instead of just doing nothing.

Don't get me wrong Ron, I agree that it is great as you said that BSN did donate products, and I agree with your viewpoint that we should be thankful for what we have.  They have definitely stepped up a lot more than other companies, and I too am a fan of their products. (No-Xplode in particular).

That being said their donation I feel isn't completely genuine as it is a publicity campaign for them.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, and I feel that their efforts should go acknowledged.  It is a business move though at the end of the day.
 I
However I just thought it seems kinda silly that they donated syntha-6 as opposed to say the equivalent amount in money, food, supplies etc.

Overall though I do commend them that they did donate, which is much more than most people can say.

Thanks for your honest post.  Here is my theory on your thoughts.  You are so disconnected to these people that you don't relate to them so it is difficult to feel for them.  I don't know where you or your ancestors are from but imagine if this disaster happened in one of those countries, then wouldn't you feel more for them?  For example say you are Irish American and this earthquake happened in Ireland, wouldn't you feel more for them because of your connectedness?

Again, while I agree with you, we should get "our House" in order first, reality is, there are food banks and other other services here (in the U.S), people can take advantage of. As I said before, EVEN the poor here have it pretty good. If need be, your kids and mine can have breakfast and lunch (virtually year round), just by being enrolled in the public school system.

One can go to its local church(es), and they'd help out if you tell them your story. We have shelters, food pantries, et cetera. I'm not sure what the situation is in Haiti, but being that it IS A POOR COUNTRY to begin with, the options I'm sure are very limited.

I feel sorry for anyone who has no compassion for their fellow man. Tell you what....fortunes can turn in a hurry. Today YOU help someone, tomorrow, it may be you who needs help. Not everything is about you, and your needs and wants. We are all in this (world) together, whether you like it or not.

Yeah, how about losing your job, home and car. Or you can't make payments on them. or maybe down the road losing everything due to a nasty divorce. One time I talked to some homeless person, who does taxes for people, up until a few months ago, she had a home and mercedes, now she's homeless and lives in a tent (with all this snow on the ground). She goes to the local library and does people's taxes. She said she used to be cynical and looked down on people. Now she has to go to a shelter to take a bath or cleanup in the library bathroom. She is too proud to live at a homeles shelter.

A few yrs back I talked to a homeless dude who used to work for NASA, straight up he was no fool, not some delusional guy. Lost it all to a messy divorce, now he goes to the Mcdonlad's dumpster at 11:00 am to eat the breakfast food that has been thrown out. ANd he is amazed at what we waste.

Spend some time serving dinners at a homeless shelter or Thanksgiving dinner. Its truly humbling.

Oh, I agree - but here there are a lot more places to turn to get something to eat.  If you try, if you seek help, there are many more places to get it.  Not everywhere, but there are.  Every country has its crime, corrupt officials and more.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of charities, places to go to get food, shelter and more here in the US.  Again, not everywhere, but there is.

In Haiti, there isnt. 250,000 dead, structures destroyed, roads destroyed, lack of basic water, toilets, and more.  Very different situation.

Right now in America, if someone really wants to, they can try to get something, somewhere, talk to someone, find a way to get some food, water, etc.  In Haiti, you have nothing.

If China wants to be number one, they have to realize that they must step in and do this as well. They are happy that we are the world's policeman and humanitarian. But, it shows just how good we really are. How other countries are nothing more than false hopes, false kings, pretenders to the throne. To be number one, you must be powerful, yet compasionate as well.

To say fuck the rest of the world, is to show that our Constitution really means nothing, or our rights, our privileges mean nothing, and we are nothing more than just a decadent society, that cares not one iota about the other countries. And other countries will not care one iota about us, nor will have any respect for us.

Good point. Being homeless in America is a lot easier than being homeless in many of the 3rd world countries.

And yes, I have compassion for my fellow man, and I don't doubt that we should help out Haiti. However, I think this country has a lot to take care of, especially with all fucked up problems going on.

Either way, no matter how you slice it, problems will exist no matter where you go.
