Again, while I agree with you, we should get "our House" in order first, reality is, there are food banks and other other services here (in the U.S), people can take advantage of. As I said before, EVEN the poor here have it pretty good. If need be, your kids and mine can have breakfast and lunch (virtually year round), just by being enrolled in the public school system.

One can go to its local church(es), and they'd help out if you tell them your story. We have shelters, food pantries, et cetera. I'm not sure what the situation is in Haiti, but being that it IS A POOR COUNTRY to begin with, the options I'm sure are very limited.

I feel sorry for anyone who has no compassion for their fellow man. Tell you what....fortunes can turn in a hurry. Today YOU help someone, tomorrow, it may be you who needs help. Not everything is about you, and your needs and wants. We are all in this (world) together, whether you like it or not.

Yeah, how about losing your job, home and car. Or you can't make payments on them. or maybe down the road losing everything due to a nasty divorce. One time I talked to some homeless person, who does taxes for people, up until a few months ago, she had a home and mercedes, now she's homeless and lives in a tent (with all this snow on the ground). She goes to the local library and does people's taxes. She said she used to be cynical and looked down on people. Now she has to go to a shelter to take a bath or cleanup in the library bathroom. She is too proud to live at a homeles shelter.

A few yrs back I talked to a homeless dude who used to work for NASA, straight up he was no fool, not some delusional guy. Lost it all to a messy divorce, now he goes to the Mcdonlad's dumpster at 11:00 am to eat the breakfast food that has been thrown out. ANd he is amazed at what we waste.

Spend some time serving dinners at a homeless shelter or Thanksgiving dinner. Its truly humbling.

Exactly. Funny the things we take for granted, and how removed from things we allow our selves to become.

Oh, I agree - but here there are a lot more places to turn to get something to eat. If you try, if you seek help, there are many more places to get it. Not everywhere, but there are. Every country has its crime, corrupt officials and more.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of charities, places to go to get food, shelter and more here in the US. Again, not everywhere, but there is.

In Haiti, there isnt. 250,000 dead, structures destroyed, roads destroyed, lack of basic water, toilets, and more. Very different situation.

Right now in America, if someone really wants to, they can try to get something, somewhere, talk to someone, find a way to get some food, water, etc. In Haiti, you have nothing.

If China wants to be number one, they have to realize that they must step in and do this as well. They are happy that we are the world's policeman and humanitarian. But, it shows just how good we really are. How other countries are nothing more than false hopes, false kings, pretenders to the throne. To be number one, you must be powerful, yet compasionate as well.

To say fuck the rest of the world, is to show that our Constitution really means nothing, or our rights, our privileges mean nothing, and we are nothing more than just a decadent society, that cares not one iota about the other countries. And other countries will not care one iota about us, nor will have any respect for us.

Good point. Being homeless in America is a lot easier than being homeless in many of the 3rd world countries.

And yes, I have compassion for my fellow man, and I don't doubt that we should help out Haiti. However, I think this country has a lot to take care of, especially with all fucked up problems going on.

Either way, no matter how you slice it, problems will exist no matter where you go.
