Title: Excess Calories and Too Much Protein is a SCAM
Post by: HugeRipped on March 14, 2010, 08:51:19 PM
The entire concept of "bulking" on a caloric surplus to build muscle is nothing more than an excuse for the lazy to get fat. Bodybuilding is about sacrifice and discipline, not taking in too many calories. Excess calories build fat, protein builds muscle. No bodybuilder needs to go over 2,500 calories per day unless they are on anabolic steroids. If you do, you will just get fat plain and simple. Furthermore, the concept of 1 gram of protein per 1lb of bodyweight is absurd because the human body cannot utilize that much protein unless it is using exogenous insulin, hGH and anabolic steroids. A natural bodybuilder taking in 200+ grams of protein per day risks kidney stress as most of that protein will be expelled through high concentrations of blood urea. Natural bodybuilders only need about 1 gram of protein per 3-4 pounds of bodyweight to build muscle and stay lean.

So, remember, do not buy into the supplement company myths.

3-4 grams of protein per 1lb of bodyweight, any more and the protein gets stored as FAT or is expelled from your body.
2,000-2,500 calories per day. Any more than that gets stored as FAT.
Carbohydrates only need to be consumed pre and post workout, no more than 30 grams or it is stored as FAT.

Take this advice in mind on your bodybuilding diets and lifestyles. For those of you using anabolic steroids, the rule I always follow is when on cycle, consume 1 gram per 2lbs of bodyweight, any more than that is a waste and a sure fire way to get fat.

 You are lame.

You could have fooled this forum if you were a little more slick about it and took it slower.

 Failed attempt.

Yes, listen to this gimmick. He's being slightly more discrete about it.

Well, you're about 20% correct.  An natural athlete can utilize 0.7 - 0.9 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight and taking 1 gram for 3-4 pounds of bodyweight is too low.  In addition, fat storage in the body is caused by an excess caloric intake of your daily metabolic rate...not fat, carbohydrates, or protein specifically.

As far as going over 2500 calories are concerned, that's nonsense as well.  An 200 pound athlete for example that trains intensely will actually need an up to 3800 calories just to maintain his current weight so to build additional muscle he would need an even higher amount of calories.

When doing nutritional meal plans for athletes, everyone is different because of genetics so its important to analyze their eating habits to determine what's best for them.

I used to get pretty fat. I agree with the post now though. Although i eat maybe 30 grams of carbs for breakfast and the rest of the day nothing really. You really don't need that many calories although i still eat 5-6 times a day, i keep the meals quite small.

Actually everything he said is correct.  When you introduce drugs it changes the equation.  Caloric intake depends on height, weight, metabolic rate and goals.

Why? Why would you have to collect fat into your body for your body to form new muscle tissue?

in order to gain "any" kind of weight...fat or muscle...there has to be excess of calories...input has to be greater than output, or you will not gain weight.  this doesnt mean eating like a pig will yield more muscle than just a reasonable excess of calories.

No. I'm sure body can form new muscle tissue from the nutrients digested without any fat gain simply because it's not necessary (thus making the calories not excess because the body uses them all). Am I not right?

ill let io shed some light

think of it this way... two ways to adapt to strength training... neurological adaptations (recruitment of muscle fibers, increased efficency) or hypertrophy (sacroplasmic, myofibrillar) now... which of these mechanisms will the body take preference of in a surplus and which one in a deficit? simple...

Protein builds muscle, excess calories are stored in the body as fat and used for energy during cardiovascular aerobic activity. The whole "Excess calories" to build new muscle tissue is invented by people who have no idea how the human body works. sorry, its just not true unless you are using anabolic steroids and insulin to process the excess nutrients into something other than lipid storage.

If you eat bull penises it makes your penis larger. Because the penile tissue transmogrifies and molecularly coagulates into your cock until it's 19 inches long.

 Scientific fact.

its obvious you dont have an idea about how hormones work in the body. only one of them makes any sginificant difference to the body's "rate of calorie burning". the ones you are talking about, insulin and Androgens, they influece the rate of protien synthesis and protein breakdown.. and insulin shifts the body to a different type of energy without effecting the rate at which it goes through that energy (no significant boost in energy output)

thank you for stating your 10th grade biology understanding of hormones in the body and how they relate to protein synthesis. I just finished graduate school earning my masters in exercise science from a university that has one of the best exercise sciences post graduate programs in the country. I have also been a certified personal trainer for nearly 5 years, so I think its safe to say my understanding of how the body works is exponentially more than yours. I have applied the physiological principles that I am discussing to my own body and reaped the benefits of it in terms of muscle gains and fat loss. Once you earn a degree and develop your own body, we can talk further.

even on anabolic steroids, one only needs 1 gram per 2lbs of bodyweight at the very most, and i wouldnt suggest that for more than 8 weeks due to kidney stress and the body getting used too much protein and thus using the majority of it to store fat instead of repairing muscle tissue at optimal nutrient synthesis percentages.

Did you copy and paste that from your latest online certification handbook?

That is almost what you'd call a series of "blanket statements"..  the human body has many more intricate variables to deal with than just random numbers and random results.

You can use more scientific formulas with more time spent in specificity and weighing of food, but you will still get varying results depending on the individual. Try spending some quality time with dieticians and certified nutritional clinicians. You will find that almost everything you thought you knew about bodybuilding (as far as caloric intake is concerned) is almost in direct opposition to what these folks consider truth.

High protein  is not necessary, it's just that none of your popular add-selling endorsing BB's wants to admit the truth about what they REALLY do to get big. As there are more than "one way to skin a cat" there are also numerous ways to "shred a bodybuilder"

are you trying to take some underhanded, sarcastic jab at my physique? First of all, you have no profile picture visible which leads me to believe you are hiding behind your monitor and don't even lift weights. Second of all, I guarantee that if you got down to my level of bodyfat and tried to execute a front double biceps WITH a stomach vaccuum without any overhead lighting or shadows at work, I would make you look like a child. I've been training naturally for years and I have made many sacrificies for bodybuilding, i have no intention of being flamed on the internet by some ignorant child whose motivation comes from jealousy and ignorance.

All I can say is that I tried gaining on little protein and little calories, but never got results.
1 gram of protein per pound and a lot of calories is what has made me gain. I don't know where you got your "information" or "science", but I don't think things work like that in real life.

You recommend 2,000 - 2,500 calories oer day and no more, I ask you: What about someone with higher calorie needs or a faster metabolism?
The real "myth" here is your crazy idea that carbs should only be consumed pre and post workout or else they would be stored as fat.

theyll make somebody on steroids fat just like they will make somebody not on steroids fat.... only difference being that the steroid user would have gotten big at the same time they got fat...
and that will be difference in say 2 builds one clean one not different look.the clean guy will be smooth and soft and appear bigger, the one 'on'will be smooth like but harder and more full dense look to his build.it's never a catch up situation for the clean lifter only when the user stops and and loses or quits training harder then the clean one could/can catch up.but if the user goes back  on it's bye by again.

obviously few, if any of you, hold master's degrees and based on the level of education - or lackthereof - coming from these replies, I would venture to guess that few of you have any type of post high school education under your proverbial belts. I have spent the last 6 years of my life earning my associates, bachelors and masters degrees in exercise science so I am MORE than qualified to explain human physiology as it relates to athlete specific nutrition.

1) the natural human body cannot digest anything more than 1 gram per 3-4lbs of bodyweight in terms of protein
2) excess macrontruients and calories that are not immediately put to direct usage by the body are stored
3) the body's preferred storage system is fat
4) if you have a "high" metabolism (most people that claim they do are just buying into the hype) you need 2,500 calories at most
5) carbohydrates should be consumed in 30g portions pre and post workout only, after that your body only needs fat and protein as fuel

These are the guidelines to natural training for big bodybuilding gains. If you dont believe me, spend 6 years of your life in higher education earning degrees on the matter and learn it for yourself. I can tell you all that upon applying these principles to my own training, my muscular and strength gains have been exponentially better and I have shed bodyfat and can walk around leaner while still gaining muscle.

obviously few, if any of you, hold master's degrees and based on the level of education - or lackthereof - coming from these replies, I would venture to guess that few of you have any type of post high school education under your proverbial belts.

I'm sorry but this is what a person should look like after spending 6 years in college studying exercise science.... ::)

You got a degree in exercise science and that is good, but you should have spent those 6 years a little more in the gym (practice) and finding out what actually works in real life than studying the "theories" so much.
