I'm not a guitar player and I'm sure that's really hard to do, but i just don't dig the fretboard masturbation stuff like that
I dig shit like this

Better yet, you play it Cpt E..... :)
-
here's my solo hope you like it
-
Check this one out... I spent so many hours learning this song... must have been 1995 I think. Love the Key of E, 9th and 11th frets intro
-
Cool stuff dudes.

I've been playing it non stop the last 2 days I just learned it.

You should put up a video man. I'd love to hear you play. I've been toying with the idea of putting up Serranna ( I haven't learned the diminished run close to the end yet, but use the tune as a sweeping exercise ) and a couple Tony MacAlpine vids before working on my own stuff again.
Becker and Friedman are probably my favorite guitar duo, and I'm a huge fan of their playing, both together, and separately. Marty Bagman's Scenes is an absolutely awesome cd without tons of shredding. Though I do prefer Jason's soloing over Marty's, I like Marty's songwriting more.
-
Yeah, it's me...
My Friedman stuff is on my channel, but I only spent a few minutes learning it. I think I did "Lucretia" and "Tornado of Souls"... I ain't proud of it, so I ain't postin' it. I'm cool with the Dire Straits Sultans solo though. I only practiced finger picking for that solo and I'm sure I can't do it worth a crap anymore. You gotta stay up on it if you want to be fluent.
I was actually trying to show that a $99.00 Strat could still sound worth a shit...
-
I've been working more on speed and picking technique than anything lately. Been listening to a lot of tech death metal stuff again.

Can you really even call that "music" ?
I know it's done on a musical instrument, and there are notes and scales and shit....but it's more like a display of manual dexterity.

fuck electrics this shit is hard (anyone else play schecters or Peaveys)

This is why I never like shredding. It's all skill and no feeling: glorified typing.
Now, here's a skilled musician playing great music. Jimmy Page ripped this off and put it on Led Zep I as Black Mountainside.

I like shredding, when it's done with style and musicality (is that a word?) Ty Tabor of king's X can shred like a mofo...but it sounds cool and is interesting to listen to....it's not just "look at how technical i am ".
You listen to his solos and you know it's him...he has a distinct voice. these guys all sound the same "widdlywiddlywiddlywiddly widdlywiddlywiddlywiddly waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh"..12 times in a row.
I am sure if you are a musician you see it in a whole different light because it is so hard to do...and i do respect the talent...just not my bag

Yeah I dig the technical stuff myself because that's how I like to play, BUT, it should still be musical imo. Not just wanking for the sake of wanking. Tony MacAlpine is great at writing catchy songs with awesome playing. Ty Tabor and Vernon Reid were big influences of mine around the early 90's. Haven't listened to much of either lately though.
Paul G ain't Buckethead either. ;D

I'll check out that Macalpine dude.
-
You can watch any of Steve Vai's last 3 live DVD's and see Tony. He is a member of the band. He also plays with Vai on the Eric Clapton Crossroads double live DVD.
Fast forward to the 3 minute mark.
-
I'll check out that Macalpine dude.
Him and George Lynch do a trade off in the actual solo section.
Tony plays a lot of jazz as well. He's also a very accomplished pianist and tours with several other artists such as Steve Vai performing both keyboard and/or guitar duties.
*edit*
Hahaha....you beat me to it dyslexic!

Well, you know I am a Vai fan... his Astoria DVD has Tony all through it. I don't care much for his guitars or his style... he reminds me of Satch a bit... who I don't really dig either. Oh well, each to his own. As a matter of fact, Vai's new stuff kind of sux too. He's either hittin to much of the pipe or droppin too much of the window pane... not sure. Trippy dude these days.

I've been working on a lot of country guitar lately. any of you guys ever listen to brad paisley play? that guy is unreal. he combines hybrind picking, jazz, metal, fusion... and makes it all sound country. that guy has been blowing my mind lately.
-
Some many guitar players.Great ;D
Love to hear how you improvise over some nice backing track.Ability to improvise and make something up as you play is one of the greatest things in music.
-
any tips for a new guy on guitar? i just picked up an acoustic few months ago and am kinda struggling. is it worth it to take lessons or just keep playing with it and using books? my biggest problem is changing chords.
-

even tho improvisation is very important in certain types of music. I believe many things hold more weight. Song writers really don't need to improvise.
That's like saying freestyle rap is better then written rap. 2Pac one of the greatest rappers in the world and he couldn't freestyle out of a paper bag.

Most ridiculously amazing guitar song ever... EVER..
Thought it was Yngwie with all the arpeggios and distortion... it was the excess delay that threw me for a second. Oh well. Cloned solos are cool too.

The stoned cat on top of the head is the only thing that leads me to believe it might be him. Typical. Didn't Pumpster have a cat?
Me thinks I smells B.S.
But, I'm me... at least I look like I work out. Who am I to judge? I'm just another Getbigger who plays guitar.

Shit, how could I not mention Steve Morse. Awesome musician!
