insurance companies can't dump you for pre-existing conditions anymore.

If you have a job as an adult, and choose not to carry health insurance, you pay a fine of $325 a year.

Are you talking about the monstrous 300 dollar penalty for not having insurance?

I'm not kidding RPF.  Also some price controls so companies can't just raise prices at will.

it's not an ideal bill by any means.  It has good and bad parts.  Anyone who says it is 100% evil, well, I think they're being dishonest.  An insurance company can currently drop you after 20 years for cancer as a pre-existing condition (FOX news 11:50 pm tonight reminded us of this).  No more of that.

At the same time, the bill is VERY UNFAIR if you are super-rich, no doubt about it.  They get taxed more.

2016: Individual mandate penalty rises to $750 per adult ($375 per child), maximum $2,250 per family, or 2% of family income, whichever is higher (capped at the national average premium for the “bronze” plan). After 2016, the penalty will be increased each year to adjust for inflation.

There was a time when Americans had the freedom to run their own life's.  We're to the point now that the government is so ingrained in running our life's that we'll be charged a fine for not buying health insurance.  It's insanity, whether the fine was one dollar, or one thousand dollars.

What year do the Death Panels kick in?

Since these panels don't yet exist I assume we'll have to hire people for these jobs

Maybe this is Obama's sneaky Commie way of creating jobs?

tax hikes/penalties for individuals and companies, amnesty coming which will add more to the working class of america...basically more govt and more tax dollars

some of you guys think that those individual details couldnt have been passed without this monsterous bill...both parties agreed on the preexisting conditions as well as many other aspects...but we still ended up with this nearly trillion dollar bust ???

when do the reps start getting to pull plugs as they obviously "want ppl to die"? maybe we could get some underemployed ppl for that?

I would agree that we shouldn't charge people for it - IF - we could lock the hospital doors to those without health insurance.

if you're going to let any schmuck who buy newports (but not health insurance) walk in and get free care - while I have to pay for it - that is some bullshit.

So the fee/deterrent to being irresponsible is something I'm torn on.  If these 20-something "I think I'm invincible but I use the ER twice a year" folks would just be responsible and either get insurance, or heal themselves at home, a fee like this wouldn't be needed.

this doesnt fix that at all bro, so now they will just pay the fine and wait until they get sick and then sign up...or buy a policy that is 6 months or so and skirt the penalty and go the rest of the yr without it... ::) like youve been saying this is a big shit sandwich

What if instead of fining people they just made it clear that people who couldn't provide proof of ability to pay wouldn't be treated any longer?

why do you need a fine if there is a no prexisting conditions clause? if you can sign up whenever and recieve care, why force ppl to sign up?

"this doesnt fix that at all bro, so now they will just pay the fine and wait until they get sick and then sign up..."

Well, if 30 million people pay $300 a year, that equates to a whole lot of $ in the kitty to use to offset the expense of them staggering into an ER with a beer can stapled to their scalp twice a year.  That's what I'm saying.  LOCK THE HOSPITAL DOORS, IMO.  You get insurance or you don't get in.

i agree RPF - If hospitals just said "No insurance, no treatment", I'd be okay with it.  You'd have people dying on sidewalks, which no politician would allow, but this safety net thing is just everywhere these days.

If you don't work, the govt gives you food.
If you don't get insurance, the hospital stitches you up anyway.

Gone are the days of "Sink or swim!"

LOL so you justify a trillion dollars for the drunks and idiots? hahahah

the dems arguement wasnt about idiots it was about families those with prexisting conditions etc...why have a penalty when you have a no prexisting conditions clause?

I believe part of what passed is a mandate that you get coverage or face some kind of penalty?  Not sure if it's just money or it will actually be a crime.

Link?

Doubt there are that many senior people in IRS.  17k is an estimate. Watch that number grow over 20k.

The joke is on you, stupid.

I think the real issue is if people are going to feel and pressure on their wallets come November.  Most of the heavy handed stuff won't kick in for years, so the Dems may still be running strong.  It will be incumbent upon Republicans to make a case, so we'll see how good of a job they do.

I am going to blame everything on Obama and the Dems now, including every sneeze, cold, ache, pain, etc.
