In light of the Toyota fiasco, someone asks, "What about Neutral?"
Have Americans gotten to the point where they don't want to pay attention to what they are doing and take everything for granted
http://www.roadandtrack.com/auto_news/tech/why-so-little-mention-of-neutral-in-unintended-acceleration (http://www.roadandtrack.com/auto_news/tech/why-so-little-mention-of-neutral-in-unintended-acceleration)

We have gotten too stupid to elect politicians.
-
I don't remember the last time I saw a person as annoying as that asshole.

They are too busy texting or talking on a cell.

Parker, I didn't get that either when I heard the reports....I had an old mustang in hs and sometimes the gas pedal would stick....I just threw it in neutral and stomped it a few times.....hahaha, 16 and already figured that out.....good times.

or being Number 1 in the world at everything, Baby!!!

In the other, a car accelerated to 94 mph, its driver called 911 and a California Highway Patrolman sped alongside and offered instructions over a loudspeaker. One news report cites braking as the only advice. According to Associated Press, though, the patrolman suggested the driver shift into Neutral, only to have the driver shake his head no. The driver later told reporters he didn’t go to Neutral because he worried the car would flip. ;D lmfao
I’ve read only two reports containing the word “Neutral.” In one, a woman says her car continued to accelerate for miles—despite her applying the brakes and taking it out of gear—until the Lord saves her. Might He have selected Neutral? ;D lolocaust.

most americans cant even drive a stick like the rest of the world can, so ......yes lol.
-
I have a good friend driving a truck for Haliburton over in Iraq and he says some of the foreigners they hire from places like South America, Africa, Inida and Pakistan have trouble even backing up a trailer. In fact nearly all the semi-trucks they have are automatic because these so called "professional drivers" can't drive a stick shift. They are also constantly rolling over the equipment as well because they can't even stay on the road. He has had to get out there and actually give "driving lessons" to these idiots sometimes.
All of this "Americans are so stupid" crap is so fucking ridiculous, it's not like the rest of the world is any better at the same things the United States are being criticized of.
-
All i know is most americans cant drive a manual shift...which instantly does make them shit drivers
I always find it amusing how so many americans do their cars up to look really nice and then wouldnt actually have a clue how to drive it unless it was an automatic...ultimate irony right there.
-

Let's help them. :D

Why does it always have to be americans? People in general are fucking stupid. Not just americans.
-
I remember when I learnt to drive you were made fun of if you did your test in an automatic car.
Learning to drive in a manual is definitely safer since you brake earlier to downshift before taking corners.

Exactly.
I don't get the whole "Americans can't drive stick shift so that means they must be stupid" either. I drove a standard for 5 years but now a days I would rather put my vehicle in drive and go.
I guarantee you there are race car drivers out there who only drive vehicles with automatics in their personal life. Why waste your time on learning something that you are NEVER going to have to use?
-
Footwork... pay attention.
Senna.
Nice.

Exactly.

More power and better gas mileage are just two of the reasons you might want to learn how to drive a stick shift.

Enough already with your 'stick.'

x2 It gets old real fast having to shift especially in your driving long distances and your legs and feet are dead by the end.
-
i've driven manual all my life but i'm finally getting sick of it, driving stick in traffic on hills fucking sucks.

Nao. ;)

If driving manual is so "Manly" then why did top car makers like Ferrari and Lambo get rid of the clutch all together and made shift paddles like a fucking PS3 game. Get with the program boys.

1-For those stupid people that does not know how to drive.
2-Weight and size.
Should i continue? :)
By the way there's a difference between "semi automatic'' and "automatic".

What makes you think that? I honestly don't know anyone who can't drive a manual transmission.
-
I once caught a left leg cramp while shifting my sh*t into third and damn near killed everybody on legs day. ;)
My next will be an auto-matty though..been driving stick forever it seems.

shift paddles lol, that's as manly as it gets. ::) ::)

Unless you're driving a car made for performance, you're either poor or stupid to be driving manual. :-\
-
DAg, Ferrari F1 shifter and dual clutch 7 speed trans, BMW DCT, and Porsche Dual Clutch all shift faster than a manual would.
Also living in my area, which has one of the nation's worst gridlocks, driving a manual would be waaaay to tiresome, annoying and more wear and tear on the tranny. Especially if your are sitting in traffic 1-2 hrs in the morning and 1-3 hours in the evening. I mean going 1-30 mph, and then sitting takes it toll on you, the clutch, the rest of the tranny assembly. It's not unheard of of people who had manuals from the 90s going thru clutch assemblies like they were candy.

no kidding. This is one of the main reason I'm making the swap.
I remember when my damn master cylinder went out on me in a 93 civic I had. Car was 6 years old....I'm sitting at the light not even able to get the damn car in gear....I then look down at my foot and it's covered in fluid. That wear and tear is murder on a manual.
If your financial situation allows, I recommend the upgrade to auto for this reason alone. Saves in long run imo.
-
The point here is. if you know how to drive.
Manual is more fun, more efficient and you must know how to drive.
Of course if you want comfort "lazy" or don't know how to drive you will choose automatic.
I'm not talking about what is comfort? or what is not comfort?
I'm talking about driving skills.
How many of you can do a reverse park on a hill? manual shift.
Question...driving a front wheel car and driving a rear wheel car...can you drive booth cars the same way?
Sh*t.. did i ask that question correct?
-

i dated an american girl for a long time she was the only person i know out of all her friends (and my friends) and family that could drive stick...the most bizarre thing i used to see was people who were driving manual (which was very few) at the lights pushing the clutch all the way down and letting the car roll back so everybody could see they were driving stick...very odd.

I agree
Gracie, my dad taught me how to drive a manual, but Ive had autos, and as I said, I live near Washington, DC. It's roughly 45 minutes from home, but for people who work there, in the mornings it is roughly 2 hrs of gridlock
of 1-30 mph stop and go, sometime you just sit there. In the afternoons, it's like 1-3, sometime 4 hrs. Some people who get off at 5 don't get home until 9. Now imagine that in a 6 speed manual. The constant engaging of
clutch, gas, and tranny. It gets old real quick...I knew a guy who lived near my family who had the old Jag V12 coupe, he worked in DC, and went thru 3 clutch cables in very short time.
I agree it's fun to run thru the gears and to learn heel-toe, and engine braking, but a day to day driver who must commute to a major American metropolitan city, a auto is the best "weapon" of choice. The manual is for weekends.
Steeve, that rollback is very common. I actually saw someone who did that at every light, and he did it one rime and went too far back and backed into the car behind him.

Ha Ha LMAO...that'll teach him!
I agree with your point about traffic tho, if im stuck in traffic it can be a pain in the arse shifting between first and second the whole time and constantly sitting on the bite just to inch forward five yards sometimes me left knee gives me shit if im sitting in traffic for a while and at that point I can definitely see why for a morning commute you would want an auto. For everything else I couldnt, I like to feel like im driving the car, when i drive auto's i just want to go to sleep...point shoot.

it's called "riding your clutch" ....some do it from bad habit alone...some to get off the light faster when it changes while still in first gear "riding the clutch."

And we know what happens when you ride your clutch too much, rollback or not :'(

actually manual cars sell for a lot cheaper (if you compare the same car manual vs. auto) less people are inclined to buy them because of the whole comfort factor while driving auto.
-
its not so much that americans are getting too stupid to drive......they are getting too stupid to live. we should all be put out of our misery. especially the smarmy, self-important faggy littler liberals who drive prius's.
-
I just see automatics as being for the lazy and the old. My dad has a manual for his work journey's but last year he got an auto for running about at weekends to give his clutch foot a rest.
They do make sense if you're stuck in city jams everyday, but in that instance i'd switch to pedal power or motorbike.
I'll consider one when i hit the wrong side of 60.
-
And we know what happens when you ride your clutch too much, rollback or not :'(
Heck yeah. Not a good spot to be in when it all goes down either. Sitting there with that "look" on your face knowing damn well what lead up to it happening. LOL

See you got the point.
But, until you learn how to drive manual, you're not driving.

epic justification of driving manual... for a few thousand saved ;D

Me too, I had a former co-worker that drives only manuals. I was in the car with her, and I found it very attractive, dare I say, quite hot. Too bad she doesn't date men 10 yrs younger than her :'(

Do you remember this place?
Rio speed limit 80 kph
Most Cariocas like this guy don't give a f*ck... 160 kph inside the city.
Btw: he is driving a sh*t car.
Paused at 1:25 and you will see the speed limit sign.
Sorry about the sound.

The only problem is finding neutral. ::)
Yet a California Highway Patrolman and his family accelerate to high speed in a loaner car; the horror long enough for a 911 call and burned out brakes. They perish in the resulting crash. What about Neutral?
Misaligned floormats and malfunctioning accelerator pedal dampers are implicated in throttles failing to return to their closed position. But what about Neutral in the gear selector?
A Minnesota car speeds up in reverse, crosses a street and destroys a neighbor’s tree; this, despite efforts of braking. What about Neutral?
