Are Americans getting too stupid to drive?
« on: March 22, 2010, 01:13:36 AM »
In light of the Toyota fiasco, someone asks, "What about Neutral?"

Have Americans gotten to the point where they don't want to pay attention to what they are doing and take everything for granted

Parker, I didn't get that either when I heard the reports....I had an old mustang in hs and sometimes the gas pedal would stick....I just threw it in neutral and stomped it a few times.....hahaha, 16 and already figured that out.....good times.

In the other, a car accelerated to 94 mph, its driver called 911 and a California Highway Patrolman sped alongside and offered instructions over a loudspeaker. One news report cites braking as the only advice. According to Associated Press, though, the patrolman suggested the driver shift into Neutral, only to have the driver shake his head no. The driver later told reporters he didn’t go to Neutral because he worried the car would flip.  ;D lmfao

I’ve read only two reports containing the word “Neutral.” In one, a woman says her car continued to accelerate for miles—despite her applying the brakes and taking it out of gear—until the Lord saves her. Might He have selected Neutral?   ;D lolocaust.

I have a good friend driving a truck for Haliburton over in Iraq and he says some of the foreigners they hire from places like South America, Africa, Inida and Pakistan have trouble even backing up a trailer. In fact nearly all the semi-trucks they have are automatic because these so called "professional drivers" can't drive a stick shift. They are also constantly rolling over the equipment as well because they can't even stay on the road. He has had to get out there and actually give "driving lessons" to these idiots sometimes.

All of this "Americans are so stupid" crap is so fucking ridiculous, it's not like the rest of the world is any better at the same things the United States are being criticized of.

All i know is most americans cant drive a manual shift...which instantly does make them shit drivers
I always find it amusing how so many americans do their cars up to look really nice and then wouldnt actually have a clue how to drive it unless it was an automatic...ultimate irony right there.

Why does it always have to be americans? People in general are fucking stupid. Not just americans.

I remember when I learnt to drive you were made fun of if you did your test in an automatic car.

Learning to drive in a manual is definitely safer since you brake earlier to downshift before taking corners.

Exactly.

I don't get the whole "Americans can't drive stick shift so that means they must be stupid" either. I drove a standard for 5 years but now a days I would rather put my vehicle in drive and go.

I guarantee you there are race car drivers out there who only drive vehicles with automatics in their personal life. Why waste your time on learning something that you are NEVER going to have to use?

More power and better gas mileage are just two of the reasons you might want to learn how to drive a stick shift.

x2 It gets old real fast having to shift especially in your driving long distances and your legs and feet are dead by the end.
