Number one for me is scarface. Love it. I loved it before all of these degenerate lowlife rappers started to cling to it. Fucking all around classic. I can sit down and watch it anytime it's on and enjoy it like the first time. I remember watching it as a kid when the VHS came out and actually still on that VHS double tape, but of course I can never play it again since I don't have a VHS player.
Another is Blood in, Blood out. A great movie that everyone should see.
Third is an all time cult classic that most no one has ever heard of. Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park.
Brilliant!

OMG!!!! I remember the VHS double edition!!! I used to have it, it's hillarious when you see DeNiro talking about all the coke they were doing during the filming of this classic..
my top faves:
Terminator 2 (just perfect all around movie) well edited, actually for hollywood perfect editing job, which is rare..good pace, doesn't get boring or too full of action/explosions great balance of all aspects.
The Abyss another Cameron flick...what can I say, the guy's incredible
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is another one of my top favourite's, great movie, well edited again.
I hate movies that nag on, you're sitting there watching it, thinking 'come on, move along....'

Not at all. Just good flicks. That's all. Look at the caliber of actors in that line up of movies. Joe Pesci, Robert Deniro, Johnny Dep, Marlon Brandow, Al Pacino. etc.

Exactly..Except for the fact he deals coke (not crack like those idiots) and kills people, there is no connection with these types. It's an insult to a great movie to have anyone associate it with Rapper/thugs/gangstas. Can't they just be happy with 'New Jack City" or something like that?

"Welcome to Hard Times" .... great western with Aldo Ray and Henry Fonda.
And since none of youz have seen it, here's the story line ... (Dr Chimps possibly saw it though)
In the town of Hard Times, a stranger rides in and terrorizes the small settlement. He kills a number of townsfolk, including Fee, the town's founder. Mayor Will Blue fails to stand up to the man, who rapes saloon whore Molly and burns down the town. Blue promises to rebuild the town after the stranger rides on, but the townsfolk give up and leave. A wagon load of prostitutes led by "entrepeneur" Zar shows up and together with Blue, they rebuild the town. But Molly's desire for revenge and her anger at Blue for not protecting her eat at her, and Blue promises that things will be different when the stranger returns. And return he does. OH, OH!!!
AND what was that movie about the wild west where the bad guys were awaiting the arrival of Charles Bronson at the old railroad depot and that beginning part ends up in a great gun fight... and the movie's ending with the building of railroad through a small town out west? One of favorite films of all time.
Also at the top of my favorite list ....
Wizard of Oz
Gone With the Wind
The Godfather
Casino
Midnight Express

Still, for good reason. Every scene in that movie is ROTM.
But ok. Really enjoyed Lost in Translation. She eclipsed papa big time. My Dinner with Andre is right up there, although adapted for screen. This place is sort of Brechtian too. Starship Troopers, Dead Poets Society, 5 Easy Pieces, most Woody Allen especially Annie Hall, The Life Aquatic (and Rushmore), 8 1/2, Fast Times, Joe vs The Volcano, and Red Dawn! ;D

Dr Chimp... Jack Elam and my best Marine Corp bud were great buddies and that train depot scene was a major break for Jack. And all Hollywood was root'en for him because of that train depot scene.
I loved it so damn much that I even bougt the soundtrak and wore it out eventually. (The harmonica theme was unreal! I still hum it often inside my head!)
If I recall right, that fly in the pistol barrel was Jack's idea and his alone and it developed when Leone said, "Just keep the camera roll'en on his face!"
Hollywood movie cameras loved Jack's ugly face.
He was also very close to Wayne and other top stars back then.
Come to think of it, I'm gonna check his IMDB credits right now.
Did I ever tell ya I spend a lot of time on set with Edward Everette Horton. Great guy and great character actor! Google him. You'll definitely recognize him.
Also spend time talking to the voice of the Cheshire Cat from the origial Disney movie .... Alice in Wonderland who did a lot of young acting work with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. I forget his name at this precise moment.
Come to think of it, I've met quite a few of these old time actors and was famous for sneaking on numerous movie and TV sets when I was a rambuncious kid. Eventually they got to know me and just overlooked my uninvited visits.
I think I've told these stories earlier but I appeared on film with Sinatra and Novak and a few others without an invite or even a SAG card.
Fun days,

I lived it so damn much that I even bougt the soundtrak and wore it out eventually.
He was also a very close to Wayne and other top stars back then.
Come to think of it, I'm gonna check him AMDB credits right now.
Her ya go, Stunt. 100% quality. Woody gets taken out nicely, too.
ps: Stunt? Tell the lads who Woody was, if you would, please. :)

that movie is not only amazing but it is the first time i heard the phrase "N1gga, please"

Damn! Thanks, Dr. That's definitely a keeper! I forgot about Woody being in that movie too but I think that he was allowed to ab-live his scenes also.
Woody was also a friend of my my good friend (Force Recon Jack) and he was alway on or around the set where Jack was working, but I never did get a chance to meet him. But I did see him working just a few feet away and even though he was an old man at that time, he was in great shape.
Here's an interesting story you guys might appreciate. If not, tuff shit! ,,,, Read it anyway.
I was running around various sets at Universal waiting for some friends to get off work and found myself in a very dark sound stage with a bit of light coming from one of the far ends of that stage. So I walked in that direction and soon realized that they were filming a scene on the other side of a small 'partition' that I was presently standing behind.
And I could hear some spoken dialogue so I immediately stopped to avoid any footstep sounds and squatted on the floor so I would not trip over any wires that were strewn around. Sound guys get pissed off easily.
And so I sat there and listened to take after take after take for pretty close to an hour.
Finally the dialogue ceased and someone yelled "Break!" or something and I got up to stretch out my legs and Raymond Burr comes rolling over from the other side of that partition (it was a fireplace set) and laffs asking me how long I'd been standing there so quietly.
And I said, "Way too long!" and he said something like, "Yea, likewise here!" and went wheeling off in his wheelchair.
Then one of the light guys or set guys informs me that they had just shot the opening scene of a new TV show to be called "Ironsides" and that I had been 'caught' (but not seen on film/tape behind the fireplace).
"You did great being quiet, kid! But too bad you're not getting paid for your efforts!"
And then someone hit me over the head with a breakaway which was some sort of initiation for sneaking in uninvited back then.
I've probably been hit with more break-a-ways than John Wayne, but most say that's damn near impossible.
ANd in the meantime Mr Burr becomes a major TV star.
-
Ride the High Country .... That was a major unexpected winner and a major break for Randolph Scott. In fact it was probably the big surprise in Hollywood back then.

The Barfly.

Superb movie. Scott and McCrea kinda decided to let that be their last movie. I dare anyone to see the last scene with Joel looking over his shoulder at the mountains and then falling forward and dying not to cry... ;)

benjamin button ?

How bout movies that were completely incomprehensable for some reason?
"Hitchhikers Guide to the Galexy" was one of many for me.
2001 or was it 2010? Kubrick's flick which I never understood the ending of. One acclaimed writer told me that it was meant to be that way.
Another was one of those time transfer things that was impossible for most people to understand. Anyone got the name of that one? It was sort of like Hitchhikers Guide.
-
Che, I know that story and it's definitely not gay.
Wasn't Brad Davis gay ?

Boogie Nights

Some superb choices in that list, bro. :)
No Red Dawn highlight?! Better dead than red, commie!
Looking it over again, Coolhand, Butch and Sundance, The Hustler. Forgive me, Paul! Fuck it, this is like asking for a favorite food. There is no single one.
One of the best opening hooks for me was in Aquatic when the woman we haven't met yet walks over at the premiere party and asks with bored familiarity, "How are you doing?" and Murray takes a big deep nervous breath, then a long sigh, fixes her with a meaningful look and says, "I'm right on the edge." Haha, what a hopeless asshole! Talk about resonance! That flick had me from then on.

Right on, My man. I was gonna say the same thing. I still hasn't get the DVD yet. Pulp Fiction is now on the top 100 list of AFI (American Film Institute) as the movie that became a Legend. that movie brought a lot of STALE careers back to life. Travolta, Samuel and a bunch of others became in high demand since

This movie got me into aliens when i was really young. I'd suggest watching it late at night in complete darkness for full effect. If not you'll possibly ruin the one time experience of seeing it for the first time. It's a 10 as far as crazy dramatic scenes go though. they get wiiiiiiiiiiiiild :o

Good to hear, cause I thought it was a decent flick. Most people have been trashing it in the IMDB boards - the hate seems to stem from the movie's claim that the supposed "real" footage is indeed real and that Dr Abigail Taylor is a real person (although they say they've changed the character names in the movie), which no one believes.

Apocalypse Now just came to mind. this was an epic war movie and one of it's kind. here's my favorite quotes from that movie
Colonel Lucas: Your mission is to proceed up the Nung River in a Navy patrol boat. Pick up Colonel Kurtz's path at Nu Mung Ba, follow it and learn what you can along the way. When you find the Colonel, infiltrate his team by whatever means available and terminate the Colonel's command.
Willard: Terminate the Colonel?
General Corman: He's out there operating without any decent restraint, totally beyond the pale of any acceptable human conduct. And he is still in the field commanding troops.
Civilian: Terminate with extreme prejudice.
Colonel Lucas: You understand, Captain, that this mission does not exist, nor will it ever exist...
