Krav Maga is pretty sweet, they just opened a Krav Maga gym not too far from my house. I will probably enroll my daughter in their self defense classes.

It most certainly does.. Krav Maga was created for the Israeli army and Mossad agents to allow troops to take on multiple attackers and disarm and disable them quickly, efficiently and easily.
There is a Russian style that is very similar called SYSTEMA (the System)
they are both great because they are not designed for sport or tournament fighting but for quick disabling of an armed opponent.

I studied krav maga for a couple of years. My may issue with it, is that unlike BJJ, you can't really test if it works or not.

I'm no fan of overly practiced moves but Krav Maga, BJJ and other good approaches have been field tested enough to know they work. I still don't believe there's good reason for going to the ground in most street fights.

I tried KM. It's intense. The instructors and senior students are incredibly impressive to watch. Short, quick, precise movements- each one designed to maim and disable. Pretty much every one of us would leave each class with some kind of minor injury, and a few with some serious aches and pains.

B) Mr Wanna-be, who has done Fung-Shoo-Jitsu for 120 years and has the 30th black belt degree and a certificate with the malayo-chinese master's autograph on his wall. He will stand through three blows, then mumble a low "that's not in the book!" and get knocked out.

The other thing is that no matter how hardcore you are in the gym, i have never seen a Gym-Martial-Artist that could really seriously hurt someone in a real fight on purpose, and i think they are really rare.
That means, now what, you have the other guy in an arm lock, then you wait for him to tapout?? The martial artist will not break the arm, he simply is not trained to do that. Maybe he will if it's a really serious life-or-death-situation, but in the normal bar fight he will be afraid of the consequences.
The street fighter doesn't give a shit if you lose your eye-sight because of a broken bottle in your face.

I agree completely, I did 3 years of karate (first martial art I took) when I was 12 and it's great for tournaments and point fighting (hell I'll even go as far as it's good for reflexes, flexibility and discipline) but it's close to useless when in a real streetfight, I also did a few months of military type training that's designed for special forces like krav maga and systema which I found much more effective then sport type martial arts like karate, kung fu, tae kwon do aikido, etc. after 18 years I believe I got the most out of systema, muay thai, boxing and krav maga but in an armed situation I would still just give up my wallet, unless I was 1000% sure that I had a chance or the guy was really close and not paying attention, otherwise screw it.

LMAO this is so true. i realize no amount of working out/martial arts is going to make me a match for a 240lb, coldblooded hardened street brawler, thats why guns were invented. if i cant shoot them with a gun, then im going to just run away, and i can run pretty fast. better than getting killed or having to deal with court legal bullshit.

Where I come from there is no "locks"..you keep swinging till they stop moving or someone pulls you off them..period. Hence why its so important to make sure you are acting like self defense cause one you start don't stop till you're made to.
Key to survival in reallity is knowing when NOT to fight. I don't care if you are MMA expert, if there are 3 douches trying to start a fight back down...if someone with a gun / knife trying to rob you give them your shit...at least till the turn to run then pull your .40, yell stop or I'll shoot and hope he turns just enough that you can double tap him center mass....but then again is that even realistic?
Good decisions will secure your survival the majority of the time.

True, but even most "full contact" martial artists cannot survive a street fight.
"full contact" in the ring is very different from full contact with the purpose to really destroy someone.
At least a boxer or any full contact martial artist should be able to take a few shots, but even he will have a lot of problems with someone fighting dirty and brutal.

I just believe guys who train with contact fear getting hit less. Less fear improves your chances of survival in life and death situations. That's just one man's opinion.

Agreed. My point was from a realistic point if you had twin expert street brawlers one fighting a boxer and another a martial artist, the boxer would more than likely survive longer and get some good shots in.
The average joe that you would get into a fight with isn't an "expert" street brawler but more than likely some douche that had too much to drink and is now feeling "brave" in front of his boys / girlfriend.

If I was going to fight more than one guy (and I have on several occations as a bouncer) sorry to say I don't believe in a "fair fight" or being a "gentleman". If I felt I was in imminent danger or was assulted..I'm picking up a stool, bottle and will hit you in the throat, poke in the eye and smash your sack. You and your buddys may get some shots in...maybe even give me a good ass whooping, but I'm gonna get mine in I PROMISE.
If your going to fight like a real man, expect to hurt as well. Only in movies can you beat someone up your size and strength and walk away unharmed.
Fierceness and endurance will win that fight in the end.

Agreed. My point was from a realistic point if you had twin expert street brawlers one fighting a boxer and another a martial artist, the boxer would more than likely survive longer and get some good shots in.
The average joe that you would get into a fight with isn't an "expert" street brawler but more than likely some douche that had too much to drink and is now feeling "brave" in front of his boys / girlfriend.

I thought the gun question was a joke. I have a CC permit but really don't feel carrying 24/7 is a good thing because people end up using them as crutches.
Another thing to consider is that all situations don't require deadly force. People need to study knife and hand to hand stuff so they have multiple options.
If you're ever really bored look at some EDC videos on Youtube. Some of those guys are geared to fight zombies and shit. :)

1. Yes, 95% of which are pedofiles.
2. Everyone I know that has a carry permit has their gun on them the 90%of the time. Most also carry a knife as I do.
3. It's not about being a coward, it's about being prepared. The criminals are cowards and will almost ALWAYS have a weapon. Just like all the "Gangsters" these days..to scared to take an ass whooping. So if you see a homied out, hippity hopping, 5'6" 134lbs "gangster" who is talking mad shit to you when and if you visit this great free country, walk because there is a reason he is that brave and it's probably tucked in the back of his waist and your krav / JuJitsu won't get withing 10 ft of him before he "bust a cap" in your ass.
You assume that everyone you meet in a confrontation isn't armed..maybe in Brazil no, but here in the US most are in some form.
I agree that learning to fight is a valuable skill but what we are arguing is a fighing skill that is REALISTIC. Krav may be "deadly" but I have yet to see ANYONE that claims a martial art stick to it when engages in an actual street fight. At first they do and then after a few well placed face shots they "break form" and just rush the guy punching wildly..usually falling to the ground where they get topped and pounded into the sidewalk.
Just like the Kiai Master video above..everyone claims its deadly and may even shoot a video showing the "invisible black touch of death" move or whatever but when it comes to the real world, a well placed hit to the face ends the fight in 10 seconds.
Make sense? Hard to triple roundhouse, krav poke me in the eye after the initial 3-5 second punching barage that has swollen your eyes, cut your eyebrow, broken your nose or ALL of the above...assuming I haven't knocked his ass out. Though I have to admit, if the guy was a real douche I have been known to punch him in the face a couple of times after knocking him out just so when he wakes up he has something to look at in the mirror for a couple of weeks and remind him that he isn't as tough as he thought he was and needs to take more KravjudoTai-whatever lessons.
