I may give the lateral heads of my delts a rest for up to three weeks. After this time I will carefully construct just one exercise to blast them.
When I feel the soreness within the next few days I feel that I have gained a new confidence in that particular exercise... of course this is only if I feel the soreness exactly where I intended for it to be.
It's funny, you can do the same exercises week in and week out, but sometimes you have to stop and wonder how effective they really are. This little test I perform gives me a new motivational kick whenever I do it (and only if it works)
I do understand that the insertion and origins of the muscle may just be stretched and the prolonged rest period combined with this factor is probably predominantly responsible for the D.O.M.S, but I like the reassurance no matter how unfounded it may be.
I can't do this with just any body part, but I can do it with most.

Exactly how are you doing the exercises "week in and week out?"
Because if you're doing them for weeks at a time, and not getting a benefit from them, you're not doing something right.
You should be able to get stronger week after week. When I say stronger, that doesn't always mean in poundage either. Can be reps, your time under tension on the muscle, weight, all the above or is it part of a superset, tri-set...or whatever.
If you aren't getting sore, you need to change something up.

i neglected my calves for years...
then i began training them consistently for a year....
they blew up and really improved.....you must work your weak bodyparts otherwise you'll never see the results.....plain and simple.
