with all the bail outs for the rich he's actually sounding pretty accurate

This what I have been trying to tell all of you. The "free market" is a joke. Always has been. Furthermore, the system has been historically closed and only open to a select few. Only recently have women and minorities have been included in our economic system.
America was built on Socialism for the Rich, Capitalism for the Poor with a closed door to anyone who was not white.

Werent you one of the guys that was blaming capitalism this whole time for the crisis? If we havent had it how could it be capitalism's fault?
-
^^^ Bingo
Also, brutal contradiction by Chomsky-- who has spent his entire career blaming America and capitalism for everything.

How long has American Capitalism been freely open to Blacks and Women?
-
Nonsense.
-
WTF does that have to do with the fact that Chomsky has spent his entire life blaming the Capitalist system and the United States for every real and imagined ill that has ever existed since the dawn of mankind?
Blacks were excluded from the capitalist system in this country for a period of time. So were women ( to a lesser extent). But who cares? What does that have to do with Capitalism as an economic system or with the present day condition of the global markets?

What year would you say was the first time there existed a "Free Market" Capitalistic system open to all in America. Just curious?
-
What does that have to do with the premise of Chomskys argument and the fact that he has pretty much contradicted himself beyond the point of repair?

Is the title of your thread, "We Have Never had True Capitalism"?
Since Whorewell obviously is having considerable difficulty answering the question, will you be able to?

The capitalist make money at all costs attitude brought on the crisis - only afterwards when everyone realised they fucked up did they start bailing out the rich people - call it socialism for the rich.

Thats absolutely not true. Thr govt, via the Federal Reserve and laws and regulations intended to increase home ownership to those who did not qualify under normal lending practices were what started the ball rolling on this mess.

These laws were put into place to make sub-prime loans look more attractive - ie. have a higher return in the long run. No lender was doing anything out of the goodness of their heart - they only saw more dollars.

Agreed, but who gave them the money to do that?

I'm not saying the Government is blameless - yes and the fed.

That's right, that is why placing all the blame on only one actor does not really tell the whole story of what occurred.
It was the worst combination you can imagine, govt and wall street in partnership with both having a mutual interest to steal money from our pockets.

I agree with you and the bailouts are only one aspect of why. There are so many more obvious reasons.

I have no problem answering the question. I am refusing to answer the question because it is irrelevant to this topic. And since I didn't make this thread, I don't have to answer an irrelevant question just because the title of the thread is- XYZ.
Hope this helps.

Translation= Even though the premise of this thread is "America has Never had True Capitalism", I cannot answer the question because I lack the ability to do so.
As soon as you answer we can move on to why it precisely is relevant.

Translation: I cannot answer the question that I asked you. However, because the question is irrelevant and I have no idea what I am talking about, I will ask you to answer the question because I am too lazy and lack the intelligence to figure out the answer for myself. When you refuse to answer the question, I will attempt to deflect my obvious incompetence and avoid all relevant issues with respect to this thread.

Of course it is relevant to the argument of why We Never had True Capitalism. Also, what it WILL do is provide a starting point of when we can measure "True Capitalism" (open to women, minorities etc...) in our society in order to gauge the efficacy of the system.
It would not make sense to gauge the efficacy of "Capitalism" when the majority of its history has been closed to millions and millions or run by anything remotely resembling capitalistic principles.
So lets agree on a starting point so we can judge the efficacy.
Do you see how this works?

Sort of like the communists always complaining that Russia never had "true communism"?
-
::)
First of all your question is totally simplistic. Are we talking about the time in which minorities and women were allowed to take part in the Capitalist system from the time Capitalism actually began, since it became the dominant global force it is today, or since it was proposed as a system in theory? Are we talking about just in America or globally? Are Asians considered minorities or are we just talking about blacks? Would you consider certain groups to be excluded from the capitalist system because their countries followed a different system-- ala monarchy, communism, socialism, military dictatorship, etc.?
Your question is totally open ended and completely off base especially when it comes to women. Domestic relations laws, laws about inheritance, ownership and other factors such as religious and familial traditions/ customs have been the most crucial reasons why women were not on par with men in the free market place. Other important issues have involved civil rights issues (voting rights, education) and hiring practices (labor law). Those things on their own have nothing to do with Capitalism as a system itself. And-- if they did, what is your point exactly? That once we allowed women and blacks into the thick of things, the free market is incapable of sustaining itself? LOL Ok-- if that's your point, I suppose that we have only had true capitalism for about half a century in this country. Things were great up until about 2 years ago. I suppose the only recourse of the free market is to bring back slavery and prevent women from entering the workforce. ::)
-
Noam telling it like it is.

Even if the type of capitalism we use today was open to everyone from it`s inception we still wouldnt have true capitalism dummy.

Now you are starting to realize the point. Perhaps you can educate the rest of the Paultards and Paulbots now.
