Question:
If you had 15k to spare in a used car, motorcycle, what would buy?
I have a 2002 Explorer and just turned in my BMW 328 Car lease. I came into some unexpected cash, about 15 and am looking at the following.
I can get any of the following:
1. 2 Door Jeep Sahara or Rubicon
2. BMW Z4
3. Harley Night Rod
-
I love the Night Rod and think that is as bad as as it gets.
However, the Jeep can be tricked out and also be bad ass and tow the jet ski.
The BMW is good for business image so I dont know.
-
Id go with the jeep although that bike looks pretty bad ass
-
So far the jeep is my first right now choice since it can tow my jet ski and be tricked out and the top comes off.
The BMW is nice, but really not useful at all. At least the jeep can go in teh bad terrqain, tow the jet ski, top comes off, etc.
The Harley Night Rod is just plain bad ass.

If you are going to buy a jeep go with the original CJ7. Get a 1980 or so fully customized. you will have so much fun. Those Rubicons are fake CJ's
-
I dont drive stick. ;D
-
...and you fancy yourself heterosexual?...Every car that I ever paid for and picked out myself has always been manual transmission...
-
Ha ha. I guess I could learn on a rental and destroy their clutch right?

EDIT I can't decide....not the Jeep though..unless you're getting rid of your Explorer soon

I would get the harley...that thing can manuver in the city traffic
-
lol fucking cracks me up that some people cant drive 'stick'. manual cars are what 95% of us drive in the uk, you put the clutch down to change gear and bring it up smoothly with the gas as you pull off, clutch goes down when you stop its not rocket science

as someone that lived in NYC and used to travel when I commuted in CT 60 miles each way to work (in traffic at times) manual sucks for city and traffic driving

Bronx, NY

Get the Harley..at least its cool. Down here in SoFla, bmws and mercedes are every freakin' where. What kills me is that mostly assholes drive 'em...........you gotta love the marketing behind these things.....you can drive a base model 3 series and say you drive a BMW...then, everything thinks you're rich when the car is comparable to a freakin' Camry. It's kinda like buying a Chevy Cavalier and saying you drive a Corvette.
I dunno about the Jeep, I just don't like a rugged looking vehicle not having a v8 or a Diesel in it. Plus, isn't it the car of choice for lesbians? :D
Just last week I did pick up a '79 two-door Lincoln Continental for around 4 grand. Full interior, really good body. It's my new project car, and I'm gonna do it right this time(like getting a 9 inch rear, suspension, tires, and a race-ready tranny before dropping in a Ford big block).

Bad ass car. How much?
-
Ha ha. I guess I could learn on a rental and destroy their clutch right?
Driving manual well is easy to learn and I suspect that you would have no problem. My first Volkswagen was a 1978 Scirrocco,...When I picked it up at the used car lot...that was when I learned how to Drive stick. Some people succeed in learning to swim on their own (this was not me)...However jumping in the deep in in picking up driving skills worked for me....After you learn how to shift after six months you will figure out how to downshift,...using downshift gives you better control over the car and if you do it right, it is not wearing on the clutch...I have traded in three Volkswagens all with the original clutches.

Around 60 g's but the one pictured comes with Five Axis Design 6” Wide Body Conversion kit. My buddy has one that's fully loaded with beautiful carbon fiber interior. The seats felt a little tight around my back but other than that the thing drives like a dream.

That's really interesting with the matte black paint. I don't think I've seen that before aside from stripes in matte.

Looks pretty sick but I still perfer the factory Obsidian color.

OH MY GOD, 15,000 freakin dollars on a used car, you can get a bmw or mercedes for that! That is way too much money to spend on a car. Get a used ford sedan or chevy sedan for 5,000 or less in perfect condition.

Used Suzuki Hayabusa with handle bar risers and corbin seat for comfortable long cruise type riding. Top in suspension and add 3K for a turbo and you have a ridiculous machine..

Motorcycle dealers still scrambling to find customers
Sales fall 4.6% in the first quarter compared with a year earlier.
By Susan Carpenter, Los Angeles Times
There are signs the economy is getting better, but not when it comes to motorcycles and scooters.
Even though they're often more economical to operate than a car, the two-wheeled vehicles saw their sales decrease in the first quarter of 2010, continuing a drop-off for the industry after a disastrous 2009.
Sales of motorcycles and scooters were down 4.6% in the quarter compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Irvine-based Motorcycle Industry Council trade association.
Street bikes, as opposed to off-road motorcycles, suffered a 7% drop, while scooters did even worse — down 13.3%. That's troubling for an industry that was hoping business would improve in 2010 after a disastrous 2009 that saw sales tumble 43.2% for the year.
Hard hit by a down economy that has tightened credit and by stable gasoline prices that no longer have people considering motorcycles and scooters because of their fuel economy, motorcycle dealers are scrambling to find customers any way they can.
"This year is going to be rough," said Dennis Johnson, editor in chief at Dealer News, a trade magazine in Irvine that covers the power sports industry. With so few buyers in the market for new bikes, Johnson said dealers were focusing on parts, accessories and pre-owned motorcycles as a survival strategy.
"Coming off a year of sales declines, the industry knew it had to get aggressive," said Cam Arnold, vice president of communications for the Motorcycle Industry Council, which represents motorcycle, scooter and ATV manufacturers and parts suppliers. "We had to do something to get customers back into dealerships."
Last month, the "something" was a Revive Your Ride sweepstakes with discounts, a sweepstakes and other dealer promotions. But it's not likely to be a magic bullet.
"Things really don't look that encouraging," said Oliver Shokouh, owner of Harley-Davidson of Glendale. "We're definitely cutting back on inventory, realizing this year nothing is going to set the world on fire."
What's selling for Shokouh right now?
"Not a whole lot," he said, even though the top sales season for motorcycles is generally April through June. Shokouh says the lowest-priced Harleys, such as the Sportster and Dyna models, are selling best.
Like a lot of dealerships, Harley-Davidson of Glendale has pared its hours and trimmed its staff in the last year... http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-motorcycle-dealers-20100518,0,3541358.story
