they didn't choke.......the celtics are clearly a better team with better players at nearly every position, except lebron's....they play in the eastern conference......if the cavs played in the western conference they may not even make the playoffs....I called it back in january, the cavs wont beat boston if they play a seven game series....celtics clearly have players with more experience....and it showed, the series should have been over already if boston wouldnt have fouled up in game one.....the cavs were never that good of a team.....they had a good record, but a good record doesnt reflect how good a team is in the playoffs.....anyone who knows basketball knew all along that the cavs were not as good as boston or the orlando magic.

New Jersey is getting the new arena, but only has 'hey, we're close to NYC' to offer.
Chicago, meanwhile, has a ready-made contender if he goes there and teams with Deng and Noah up front with Derrick Rose running the point and Hinrich as the go-to guy when they need a 3.
I called 'bullshit' the moment one of the TBS guys said that this Cavs team was 'built to win in the playoffs', because they cited Shaq and Jamison as the reasons for that. Shaq's intimidation factor has clearly dwindled and Jamison has never been a game-changer nor was he even a legit scoring threat this post-season.
Needless to say, in order for this to qualify as a 'choke', the Cavs would either need to have been the superior team or they would've had to have a 3-1 lead in the series and lost it.

Gotta agree. I can understand missing shots, but hustle never has a 'slump', if you want to win.
And the fact that the Cavs just quit when the game was still within reach was just sickening. I'm not a fan of either team, but as a basketball fan, I hated seeing that.

They both want to be celebrities and love that shit more than the game. Lebron is not likeable like Jordan was. Jordan had a great personality and white about him. Lebron comes off as a greedy fuck who puts money and fame above all else. Maybe one day he'll learn but right now he is too concerned about making money.

They're are two separate arguments. I'm not putting Lebron in Jordan's league. I'm just saying that Jordan didn't start winning championships until he had a complete team around him.
What I disagree with is the contention that the Cavs were the better team and choked. IMO, the better team won the series.
Then again, even if the criticisms of Lebron are on point, I'll still take him over what we currently have in New York.

I loved watching Wall play, but I think as an NBA starter he'll be a turnover machine and physically manhandled by vetereran NBA guards. In the NCAA touenament he was sloppy, talented or not.

I loved watching Wall play, but I think as an NBA starter he'll be a turnover machine and physically manhandled by vetereran NBA guards. In the NCAA touenament he was sloppy, talented or not.
He's from here in Raleigh and don't be surprised if ole Kentuck ends up with recruiting violations involving him. A guy who worked for me played in the same summer league and that dude is SHADY.

I agree. Always felt Pippen was put on a higher pedestal then he earned. No doubt he was very good, but not Top 50 material. Hell, with the entire defense trying to shut-down MJ, there were plenty of wide open opportunites for a bunch of scrubs on those Bulls teams. Kerr, Paxson, etc....

He was not there mentally in the game. There was no sense of urgency. And yes, doesn't matter how many assists you have when you turn the ball over.

i think i just saw a city just die out there today, and being from AA, Detroit, Michigan it's not something that really pleases me......if and when james goes. i've never seen a player like him choke and then quit like that....if i were a Cleveland fan i would switch teams immediately, that was an outright disgrace out there......i would be ready to do awful things to him right about now. but since I'm a pistons fan, this is freakin' awesome in my eyes and i just can't wait until he gets the hell out of our division. but wow.......lebron just absolutely snapped out there.......i ALMOST feel sorry for you guys. :o

One more thought I have on why Lebron doesn't seem to have the killer instinct that Jordan had: remember, Lebron was coronated as a king when he entered the league. He was on the cover of SI when he was in high school. Jordan was cut from his high school team as a sophomore. I think Jordan always carried that "nobody believes in me attitude" his whole career (even when everyone did believe in him). Jordan's HOF induction speech is evidence of that.

Feel wanted? The guy got on the cover of ESPN the Mag as a high school basketball player and ESPN was even televising his high school games. The dude just has a massive ego.

LeBron needs to focus on one thing if he wants to be great. Lebron passes way too much. He thinks he is a PG. He also gets banged up too much going for rebounds. Rebounders don't last long in the NBA. Lebron needs to be a scorer. That's it. Let the PG get the assists, let the other forwards and center get the rebounds and he needs to concentrate on scoring. Trying to be the all around player is not going to get him a championship when you need a team to win. Lebron thinks he's a one man team.
He also needs to lay off the three point attempts. I think until he reigns in his ego and realizes that he needs to stay close to the paint and go for points he will struggle. He tries to be too much and that is not needed in today's NBA.

You cant judge a player/game by looking at the stat sheet, James failed miserably on key possesions, was passive when he should have attacked and turned the ball over way too much.You have 2 players who get 35 points, one scores 30 in the first half and 5 in the second and loses by 8 points, the 2nd scores 10 in the first half and 25 in the 2nd, scoring 20 of those in the fourth quarter and winning by 3 points, see?Its about WHEN you score and knowing when to take over, Jordan knew this, James doesnt.

Kobe has that "stick a knife in your back and twist it" just like Jordan did, Lebron does not, and probably will not. He is a false King, a "King" image propped up by Nike marketing. You could build a team around him, but ultimately he is no real leader, like Jordan or Kobe is or to a lesser degree Jason Williams from Duke. Jordan rallied the troops, inspired them, and chastised them.
Lebron may or may not win a ring in the future, if I was a betting man, I'd say he will not. And I'd say he will go down as a bitter man, a la Shaq, whether he wins one or not, you can already see it in his actions, facial expressions. Some people know how to lead, and to command respect, it's innate, others must learn, and some never do.

On another note, the biggest disappointment of a NBA star in the last 10 yrs to me was AI---loads of talent, passion, but too much "thug" in him to really grind it out---he has (or had) the hunger in him, but never the discipline. I always wondered what would happened if Mary J Blige had kids with him and made him settle down.

Point in question was the finals against the Spurs. Game is real close, seconds on the clock, LeBron bangs it to the net and instead of finishing passes at the last second for a missed shot and loses the game. Why the fuck did he pass? He has to get over that shit. He needed to take it hard and slam that in. That game changed the whole finals and the Cavs got smoked the rest of the series.

AI had loads of heart, and yes he did carry the team. But the not showing up for practice or showing up late, and off the court issues, speaks volumes. When you are running a ragged ship it sets the tone for the rest of the team. You act like you don't care in practice, but then you want the team to put out? They will not, because AI was inconsistent, and don't blame the coach, it's AI. He always had issues even at G-town, he was and is a magnet for trouble and issues...
Here is an example, he shows up down here in the DC area for a "street gambling game" (take a guess), in tow is MJB (Mary J Blige), WTF are you doing in the streets "gamin" and with MJB, I mean, WTF. he could have been busted and jeopardized her career as well. Yet he his not a thinker, and it showed in those damn wild ass shots he would throw up. For a 5'10 dude, he put his body thru abuse, but had he been smarter and learned to play the game to win instead of playing street ball, he would be up there with the likes of Jordan, Bird, Ewing, Kobe, etc.

I think that their should be a dock in pay if you don't produce, or a mandatory benching from the higher ups. If you don't produce to your abilitity on a consistent basis, you will be

Coming out of high school, kids should be required to stay in school at least until they are 20. It would make college basketball better and add a level of maturity to the kids coming out. Can you imagine how good Kentucky would be if there freshman class were around until they were juinors?

Which goes back to one of the reasons why Coach K recruits certain players. The school somewhat dictates his player are going to be. He hates one and done players, so he will recruit players who may not be the best, but hey it's Duke and you get a excellent education. Most stay for 4 yrs. And he has no "me,me" prima donnas, so his teams work great together. But, most when they go on to the NBA aren't that great, because they were never great talent to begin with.

yeah, as much as I used to dislike him for his arrogance... Kobe was drafted 17th or 18th in the draft, and didn't have all the early love that LeBron got, despite his offenseive skills.
He won 4 rings - one without Shaq - and looks impossible to beat this year and maybe for the next three years after that. He stayed in LA when his ego could have led him to leave for NYC. And they built a team to win.
Lebron needs a real coach (Phil jackson would be perfect), and he needs some support. Get him Wade or Parker, and a big man, and let him grow from the ego hit he's feeling now.

The LeBron hype does make me laugh. First they call him the best player ever and in the same breath say he can't win it all unless he has a team of all stars behind him. Well that is true for anyone. You can build a team of all stars behind Mehmet Okur and win a championship. The sad thing is I don't think anyone wants to play with lebron knowing that if they win a championship lebron will get all the credit even though he couldn't win on his own.
LeBron needs to figure out the player he wants to be and he can win, it's just sad that 7 years later he hasn't and that is his fault and his lousy coaches fault for not helping mold him. A Larry Brown or Phil jackson would have won a championship already with the same team over the last three years.

Despite being the biggest basketball star in history and being responsible for the explosion of the Nike brand - which enabled Tiger to supplant him as the world's most visible sports star - Jordan STILL has a chip on his shoulder, even though no one really disputes his position as the best ever.
That's why we have to be careful about giving kids too much too soon without teaching them what it's like to want something so badly that they're willing to do whatever work necessary to get it.

The Celtics can hurt you multiple ways with multiple players and they play great defense. Take out Lebron and the Cavs showcase average players with no direction.

Jordan WILLED his team to win, no matter who was on it. The guy was fuckin' intense on the court. No one nowadays comes close to his passion and intensity for the game.
Lebron is in it for fame and wealth. He doesn't will his team to win. Management goes through the wringer to surround him with the best players they are able to get a hold of....and of course, the blame gets put on management for not winning. Blame should go to Lebron.
Guys like Carmelo, Lebron, McGrady, and Durant are just scorers. They'll drop 30+ points per game, but do not have what Jordan had back in the day.

Well a lot of sports commentators are saying something happened after game3 or 4, whether there was a issue with certain players or coaches i dont know, did lebron choke? i dont think so, he kept passing the ball, i dont know he would trust jamison, or mo to clinch them a win.. choking is john starks going 1-14 on 3pt attempts.

Jordan was like nobody else, people forget what it was like to actually watch him on the court. Jordan played human chess on the court and was several moves ahead of his opponent, always. He was the most fundamentally sound player during the championship years. And yes he had a greater will to win that anyone which combined with his superior talent made him the unmatched best ever.
As for LeBron, lets not forget its very rare to nail someone as a prodigy at as early of an age as happened with Lebron. And they did nail it with him. He was on the cover of SI as a junior in high school as 'the chosen one' and was on the radar long before that. So for all intents and purposes he has lived up to the hype, assuming thats possible seeing as the extent of that hype machine. Look at player like Kwame Brown and Darko Milicic who were very highly touted but turned out to be complete flops.
The fact it the NBA is supersaturated with talent and even 2 guys on a team isnt good enough to get the job done anymore. If the finals is actually Lakers vs. Celts, which is pretty likely, there would be approximately 10 all star level players involved.

It's funny how they keep on saying that lebron will be number two behind wade. Wade as a player can't do half of what James did. Wade had big scoring numbers because he was the only scorer. James could have 40 or 50 a night but decides to pass it a lot thinking he is a point guard. Half way through the season when wade is number 2 you will start seeing the strings unravel on the thread and their "friendship".
