This morning, President Obama will meet with the NCAA men’s basketball champion Duke Blue Devils at the White House to honor their 2009-2010 championship season in the Rose Garden.
Keeping up the sports theme, the president and the vice president will take a photo with the U.S. World Cup soccer team and former President Bill Clinton, who is chairing the 2018 World Cup bid, on the North Portico. The White House has previously announced that Vice President Biden and Jill Biden will attend the World Cup in South Africa next month.
Afterward, the president will a private have lunch with President Clinton in the Private Dining Room.
In the afternoon, the President will deliver remarks on the BP oil spill and the conclusions of his ordered 30-day safety review and hold a press conference in the East Room.
The president will announce standards to strengthen oversight of the industry and enhance safety, a first step in a process that the independent Presidential Commission will continue, a White House official says.
In the meantime, the moratorium on permits to drill new deepwater wells will continue for a period of six months. In addition, the planned exploration off the coast of Alaska in the Chukchi and Beaufort seas will be delayed pending the Comissions review and the August lease sale in the Western Gulf will be cancelled. The lease sale off the coast of Virginia will also be cancelled due to environmental concerns and concerns raised by the Defense Department.
After taking questions from press, the President will then receive a briefing in the Situation Room on the 2010 hurricane season forecast and an overview of the federal government’s national hurricane preparedness. The briefing will be led by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate and NOAA Administrator Dr. Jane Lubchenco, as well as five FEMA Regional Administrators.
In the afternoon, Mr. Obama will hold a bilateral meeting with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia in the Oval Office.
Later in the afternoon, the President, the Vice President and First Lady Michelle Obama will host a reception in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month in the East Room.
Afterward, in the evening, the First Family will travel to Chicago, Illinois for a four-day Memorial Day weekend vacation. The Obamas have not been back to their hometown all together as a family for more than a year.

Aside from being a huge distraction, holding a press conference requiring security and other resources...
Why would he go to the Gulf? He could stand on an oily beach for a photo op? He could take a boat to the highly flammable drop zone in the middle of the ocean?
Tell us what Obama should be doing and saying, and where. If you're going to criticize, then give us a better course of action he should be taking.

The guy was on TV every 2-3 weeks giving rambling conferences about nothing. Now he's nowhere to be seen and has become invisible. Better keep shilling for him, though. ::)
-
So let me get this logic right. When he's on tv all the time you criticize him, when not on the tv all the time like many of you want, you still criticize him.
If obama went to the gulf you would all be asking what he's doing there saying it's pandering. The logic some of you use is equal to a round hole and square peg. it just doesn't fit.
-

He was on TV talking about the most insignificant things. Now we have a catastrophic disaster on our hands and he disappears, probably to hide the massive failure that is the govt.'s handling of this situation.
And speaking of square peg into round hole logic.......
-
so give us your perfect scenario. In the last 5 weeks, exactly what SHOULD obama have been doing?
Don't be vague. he should have done X to stop the leak, and done Y in the press conference.
-

So you'd rather he were talking on every channel and every show instead of spending time trying to find solutions for this issue and to stop future disasters like this?

Yes, I'm a fucking oil rig expert. Let me give exact specifications. You're turning into as big of a shill as the rest of the ultra-liberals on here. Pretty sad.
Deny it all you want but for a guy who, at one point, wouldn't get off our primetime TV while he gave us rambling talks on nothing, it's pretty amusing how he has nothing to say or contribute to this situation beyond "Give me a 30 day report." Brilliant leadership. Good to know we put the control of our country in this guy's qualified hands.
So you'd rather he were talking on every channel and every show instead of spending time trying to find solutions for this issue and to stop future disasters like this?
Where has there been any indication that this guy is doing anything to rectify this situation? From what I know, he's done nothing more than ask for a 30 day report about a situation that's getting exponentially worse. Smart thinking.
No one has any idea what he's really doing. All he's done is point fingers while not actually doing anything productive. Hasn't even really answered any questions about it up until this point. Great work. Keep up that transparency. ::)
-
okay, then tell us what he should have done in terms of press conferences.
And does anyone here really believe his standing on an oily beach would do a lick of good, aside from pulling resources away from the cleanup effort.
-

Can you explain why he had no problem getting on primetime TV every 2 to 3 weeks and has now disappeared?
This is pretty funny considering you're one of the guys who wouldn't shut the fuck up about Bush's handling of Katrina. Obama's done a great job, what with his great accomplishment of asking for a 30 day report and turning over control of a national disaster to a shady company in order to hide his own incompetence. And a foreign company at that.

The president/governor always visits the site of natural disasters. It gives them a better understanding of the event and, more importantly, is just good leadership.
-
He doesn't want to be associated with it, and any moment standing there might be his katrina or 'mission accomplished' moment. He should be there, and he's not. i'm not denying that.
I would just like the armchair experts to deliver their better plan of how they'd handle it. I hear a lot of people saying "I can't believe obama didn't fix this yet..." without any clue how they'd handle it.
-
James Carville is roasting President Obama for his lack of action on this issue:
http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/checker.aspx?v=XdqGqG2GaG
I'm sure the good people of Tennessee feel the same way, seeing as they have incurred the worst flooding in its history. And we heard not a peep about that.

Armchair experts? Why are you comparing us to the President of the United States, who has a legion of scientists, experts, agencies and money at his disposal to throw at the problem?
You seemed to have no problem being the armchair expert with regards to Katrina. Why is it different now, shill?
This is now the most catastrophic environmental disaster in the history of this country (and getting worse by the day) and you actually have the audacity to defend the way this guy has handled it. How pathetic.

Are people expecting him (the president) to go scoop out oil, FFS?!
-
Are people expecting him (the president) to go scoop out oil, FFS?!
Expecting him to take control of a disaster that threatens the well-being of millions of American citizens. Since when does the govt. take a back seat to a catastrophic event on its own shores and pass off control to a shady foreign company that likely caused the disaster in the first place?
-
Stephanopoulos is pitiful with his statement, "Just what can the President do???" - if that ain't a kool-aid drinker, i don't know what is. lol

And does anyone here really believe his standing on an oily beach would do a lick of good, aside from pulling resources away from the cleanup effort.
Well it's not too late for him to actually take some much needed and long overdue action.
He now needs to parachute onto the Deepwater Horizon, as they unfurl a banner saying "Mission Accomplished"
;D
-
Are people expecting him (the president) to go scoop out oil, FFS?!
When Katrina hit people were expecting Bush to row around in a rowboat picking up people......but he didn't care about THOSE people.... ;D
-
James Carville is roasting President Obama for his lack of action on this issue:
http://www.eyeblast.tv/public/checker.aspx?v=XdqGqG2GaG
Was Carville having a Pavlovian response there? Did he say people were dying at the end of the clip? :o
Reminds me of Ben Stein statement that Ron Paul was making an anti-semitic argument. ::)
I'm sure the good people of Tennessee feel the same way, seeing as they have incurred the worst flooding in its history. And we heard not a peep about that.
Ya that's blowing me away. A friend of mine in Nashville Tennessee has been telling me about all the flooding down there and it's wild. He has described it as being just like Katrina. I thought he was simply exaggerating. According to him, he's lucky he lives on a hill. Everything on 3 sides was underwater, and the one side where the road is, was clear, but everybody else was flooded out.
-
When Katrina hit people were expecting Bush to row around in a rowboat picking up people......but he didn't care about THOSE people.... ;D
Can chants of "Obama hates dolphins" be far off?
Jeez! Some people are idiots.

I'm surprised the eco-terrorist liberals making up Greenpeace and those other eco-terrorist organizations haven't been raging all over the media about this.

Were people expecting Bush to personally rebuild peoples' homes, hand out new clothes, medicine, and food for the Katrina victims? It seemed that is the case by the unwarranted criticism hurled at Bush. Bush's administration was even accused of blowing up levees.
What's the matter? Is Obama and his supporters too thin skinned for criticism?
-
What's the matter? Is Obama and his supporters too thin skinned for criticism?
That goes without saying.
-
What is he supposed to plug it himself?
BIG Fvkcing deal. He has a country to run, running over to the gulf is a meaning less as talking about it in Kentucky. He's handling it the way he thinks he should.
This President is an open target for legitimate criticisms. There's no need for lame ass pokes like this.

I'm not a supporter but believe criticism should be logical or at the very least reasonable. Bitching about someone not showing up who couldn't do a thing other than make a speech to be dissected and criticized is silly.
Bush could have gone to at least comfort a few American citizens or encourage support workers. I also see how presidential security needs and people wanting to see him would have taken away vital resources needed to find survivors make valid arguments for not going.
What was President Obama supposed to do? Talk to fish, wipe oil off ducks or rocks? It's just silly to think he's supposed to be everywhere. if he were an expert in oil spill clean up or the former head of FEMA it would make sense but just showing up to make speeches is a waste of time and money.
-

I'll play....I bet that if he came out and took control of the BP spill officially, by sending some government forces to try to stop it, in a matter of minutes some people would have started to scream their head off that he's nationalizing Big Oil. On the other hand everybody is complaining that he's not doing enough.....now which one is it? They need to make up their minds. :)

You could say that about every natural disaster, terrorist attack, etc.

-
You could say that about every natural disaster, terrorist attack, etc.
If Bush went to the gulf and huffed and puffed (like The Big Bad Wolf)* against the Katrina people would have still complained.
* Yes, BB. I actually went there, LOL!
Maybe that's the key!!! The President should jump in the gulf and splash the oil towards our enemies. :)
-
For all the people shilling for Obama, he just admitted that it's his responsibility. He's busy trying to show us that the govt. is calling the shots and not BP. How embarrassing that people even have to question whether the President of the United States or a foreign oil company is calling the shots on the worst oil spill in US history.
"I take responsibility. It is my job to make sure that everything is done to shut this down," Obama declared at a news conference in the East Room of the White House."
LOL!

You are correct. People will always complain. That shouldn't impact whether a leader does the right thing though.

30 days later, 11+ million gallons of spilled oil and a still uncapped well and it’s good to be reassured that Obama is in control of the situation! He's accepting responsibility for this massive failure but he shouldn't be criticized. ::)

Not really,
The reporter asked the question because the "answer is news." The longer it goes without being fixed the more questions will be asked. That has nothing to do with Oblama or it being "embarrassing" other than how it realtes to it not being fixed yet and being the worse oil disaster in history
And just so we are clear, he shouldn't be criticized for not being there. WHICH IS THE TITLE OF THE THREAD. That's stupid weak ass crap.
-
Exactly, there's plenty of other things to criticize him for.
I'm actually critical of him over this. Not a huge issue, but I do have a problem with it. It's just good practice for the chief executive to make an appearance at the site, make a speech, try and make everyone feel good, reassure folks, etc. That's partly why we almost always see presidents and governors visiting major disaster sites.
-

Good to know he's in control. In control of the worst oil spill in the history of this country. ::)
And I couldn't care less as to whether or not he's down there. That has nothing to do with my gripe.
Ironic that he finally steps up and admits responsibility 30 days after the initial incident and when the well looks like it will finally get capped.
-

I believe it to be petty. If he goes down there some time in the next 2 weeks does that alleviate your concerns?

I think if there would have been a large loss of life he'd be down there already.
One thing is, I am not too surprised about him not going down there already, his advisors suck ass. We got to remember these are from the same people who gave the British Ambassador a gift of DVD's. It's like he appointed a bunch of rookies to advise him on political moves like this.
But what is your core gripe?
-

It would eliminate my criticism of him not visiting the site. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.
-
i think its funny that obama said ( the gulf spill is our top priority) really?? Is that why they are writing financial reform bills and cheating them through congress at all hours of the night and pledging to have it signed by obama on july 4th. wow real priority??
-

My core gripe is that he turned control of a catastrophic national disaster that threatens the well-being of millions of American citizens over to a shady, foreign oil company and disappeared from the public view for 30 days and has now only come out of the woodwork because there's a chance the top kill will work. Should it not work, I bet he'll disappear again. Not only that, it took 30 days for him to admit responsibility. Meanwhile, 11+ million gallons of oil have poured into the Gulf of Mexico and the well is still uncapped. Stellar work at rectifying the situation! And now he's setting it up to try and claim responsibility for ending it after he spent 30 days doing nothing beyond ordering a report on the situation. ::)
Who gives a fuck as to whether or not he flew down there?
-

Bush did go. Four days after. Wow!! How dare Bush take so long? 4 days!!! Yet, the socialist pig in the White House hasn't visited the site since this started over 30 days ago. All he needs to do is show up at the site or at the main BP center and acted like he is even concerned about the situation.
Again. The same measuring stick for Bush, should be used for Obama. It doesn't matter what they can or can't do in that situation. There was nothing Bush could do about Katrina but he was roasted for it. Why excuse Obama?
Now for Memorial Day, the failure of a president will not be visiting Arlington. Very Presidential of him.
-

When he said, its the top priority the first thing i thought of is that we are currently at war afghanistan and that trumps that oil spill any day. Perhaps he is being a PR predator which all politicians are IMO. But frankly, I'd prefer the government to maintain the role it has. BP's should get sued and shredded from this. They are responsible by law to fix this. Not OBama. From what i heard (2nd handed) BP earns 66 million a day and this spill is costing them 12 million and they have 17 bill in the bank.

PR Speak, so what?
So you're saying that he's not responsible, in control or has anything to do with rectifying this disaster? That's good to know. Why he is President again?
Perhaps we can outsource the next hurricane to another foreign company. Perhaps some Iranian or Chinese company can be tasked with fixing it as it seems our govt. isn't capable of doing anything beyond pointing fingers and passing off control to foreign corporations.

No what I am saying is, is that he's a politician and when it comes to things like this they are are all whores about it. So to take in too much of what he says or any politician says for face value is useless IMO. What actions did he take from start to now? That's all that matters IMO. the rest is political fluff.

Good call. The same thing happened when Bush had to try to convince us, "I'm the decider!"
You're the POTUS... of course you are. Why are you trying to convince us?
Obama is just reading what his advisers tell him to say. They'll try 2 months of half-witted, two-term plugging attempt, but nothing is going to work. It's all about simple pressure... nothing is going to stop it. We'll either nuke it or let it run out on its own. But now, Bp and the white house can say "we tried all of these watercooler-chat-ready solutions, like Top-hat and Butt-Plug, etc... we did our best!"

Your are right, Obama should be at the library over the Library of Congress pouring over books on Oil Spills and coming up with his own "Top Kill" plan. After this, he needs to contact DOD and have them build a contraption of his own design that will plug and cap the damn thing. He then should get into a submersible that is designed, again by his own hand, to withstand the pressure of being 1 mile deep. This one of a kind submersible wiil be dubbed N1 (Naval 1)..
Yes, BF, he did take responsibility---for oversight, the responsibility for the mess, the payment of the mess is BP. They are the one's who made the mess. Period.

Sarah Palin: Drill, drill, drill -- all the way
Offshore, onshore, in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- the Republican vice-presidential nominee makes no bones about it: Drill!
By Andrew Leonard
Conservatives have a host of reasons for fawning over Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain's surprise vice-presidential pick. She's solidly pro-life and a solid fiscal conservative. But possibly her most attractive attribute, at this particular moment in time, could be her position on energy. You would be hard put to find an elected politician in the United States who more resolutely supports a rapid ramp-up in exploiting domestic energy supplies -- offshore and on -- including in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
One of her campaign promises in her 2006 run for governor was to "get ANWR open." Drill here, drill now? As CNBC talk show host Larry Kudlow noted in June, with Sarah Palin it's "drill, drill, drill -- all the way."
Where's that cu*t now when we need her "expert" advice? ::)
-
Have fun walking to work, sleeping in a sleeping bag in winter under a fire, and paying shit loads of money for goods you moron.
And BTW - Obama is still calling for more drilling.

FL panhandle GOP no longer supports ‘drill baby drill’
May 9, 2010
Florida Panhandle politicians who had been ardent offshore drilling advocates are changing their tune as the BP oil disaster begins harming their constituents.
The Senate-energy-committee-approved ACELA (S. 1462) would lift the moratorium on drilling in the Pensacola and Destin areas, just off the coast of the Florida Panhandle.
Florida Panhandle politicians who had been ardent offshore drilling advocates are changing their tune as the BP oil disaster begins harming their constituents. State Representative Greg Evers (R-FL-1) and State Senator Don Gaetz (R-FL-4) joined Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum (R-FL) at a press conference at the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce yesterday. Before the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig, both Gaetz and Evers advocated drilling near the Florida shoreline. Now that “a lot of businesses are already feeling the pinch,” however, Evers says the white beaches of Escambia County “must be protected at all costs,” and Gaetz says that the “many” economic losses coming from this oil spill mean “these are the worst of times“:
Drown in oil you coocksuckers !! ;D

"Drill, Baby, Drill" Republican LA Gov. Bobby Jindal Criticizes Federal Disaster Aid
posted Wednesday, 26 May 2010
Bobby Jindal (R Gov. LA) repeatedly called upon a reduction of the federal government, so it could "get out of the way" and "empower" private employers to create jobs. Jindal is a perfect example of a Republican governor who has constantly complained that the federal government is too big and too intrusive and advocated more authority to the states.
During the Bush administration the federal goverment sure got out of the way of BP drilling deep-water wells in the Gulf! Along the way they approved the absence of safety precautions (insisted upon by the British and Norwegian goverments for North-Sea drilling), with environmental waivers excusing BP from many inspections and reporting requirements. The CMM inspector who inspected the TransOcean rig which caught fire and sunk, causing this disasterous oil spill, was actually applying for a job with TransOcean at the same time.
Of course, now that the oil spill is threatening the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Lousianna voters, Jindal is now loudly complaining that the federal government isn't doing enough to protect Lousianna coastline from the effects of the spill. Now his state's coastline is endangered and all he can do is complain that the federal government hasn't done enough. It's your state's coastline governor, have your people of LA clean it up. You can't have things both ways.
Drill Baby Drill !! Drown in oil NOW coccksucker Jindal ! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Senior Republicans distance themselves from 'drill, baby, drill'By J. Taylor Rushing - 05/04/10 03:31 PM ET
GOP Whip Jon Kyl (Ariz.) and Sen. Pat Roberts (Kan.) said Senate Republicans have never endorsed the phrase.
Two senior Republicans on Tuesday distanced themselves from the controversial "drill, baby, drill" phrase first used by Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele and repeated prominently by 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Speaking in the wake of a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that might have as many political repercussions as environmental ones, GOP Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona and Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas both said Senate Republicans never endorsed the phrase. And Kyl specifically avoided referring to Steele by name.
"That was not a Senate Republican phrase," Kyl said. "I think there was a candidate that used that. I think our phrase was 'drill here, drill now,' meaning here in the United States and as quickly as oil and gas leases are going."
Hahahaaaa!!! Run but you can't hide coccksuckers!!

Then they will be able to afford the $10 a gallon gas Obama and his fellow marxist/communist travelers said they want a gallon of gasoline to cost.

Then they will be able to afford the $10 a gallon gas Obama and his fellow marxist/communist travelers said they want a gallon of gasoline to cost.
They'll be the first ones crying when America gets dragged into another war to protect more foreign oil interests, though. ;)
A CNN poll showed that, while support is down, over 50% of the people in this country are still in favor off-shore drilling.
-
Because most people (hopefully) realize that while this really sucks, there is no alternative energy available right now than can do everything oil does and as bad as this is, a spill can be dealt with, $10 a gallon can not.

So instead of blaming Obama for doing nothing, you sit around and whine about what he should have done.
Yet, you can't say for some reason or another exactly what it is that he should have done to stop this.

Mr. President, take command
By David Gergen, CNN contributor
CNN) -- Enough is enough! After the latest failure by BP to plug the gaping hole, it is time for President Obama to take full command of this growing national catastrophe. Immediately!
The president in his press conference this past Thursday assured the nation that he and his administration were already in charge and he has manfully taken personal responsibility -- "the buck stops here," he said, echoing Harry Truman. Well, it may be true that BP has been acting all along under the oversight of the federal government, but that supervision has been loose and ineffective.
To the world, it has been apparent that the government has been riding shotgun and BP has been at the wheel. It's time for the White House to get in the driver's seat and get us to safety -- fast.
First off, who can now trust BP to do the job right? From the beginning, it has appeared to be more interested in shoring up its stock price than in playing straight and solving the problem. It took reckless short cuts in opening up the rig, had no serious plan in place for a disaster, low-balled early estimates of the spill, has high-balled its chances of stopping the leak and has kept both the government and the public too much in the dark. And its efforts on shore are increasingly pathetic -- can it really have failed to protect the safety of beach workers and have stage managed the clean-up when Obama was there, as reported? It was a mistake to leave our fate in the hands of this company as long as we have.
Second, even if BP were reliable, the problem has clearly become too big for it to handle, as Colin Powell is now arguing on television. We have been told for days that the top kill procedure was BP's best hope for stopping the leak and if that failed, we would likely have to wait until BP drilled new wells which might be as late as August. We can't wait that long. BP is especially not up to the task of protecting our precious shorelines and cleaning up the beaches. For that, we need the organizational strength of the U.S. military.
Third, this catastrophe is increasingly threatening the nation's welfare. With a potentially dangerous storm season just around the corner, a continuing gush of oil will not only pose huge, long-term damage to the Gulf region but could easily wash the oil around the tip of Florida and up the East Coast. The loss to livelihoods, the economy and to ways of life would be immeasurable. It would be worse than Katrina and Exxon Valdez put together. Unless we solve this soon, this spill could do to off-shore drilling what Three Mile Island did to nuclear power -- darn near kill it. Obama is right that it is a wake-up call to end our addiction to oil, but we need some forms of off-shore oil as a bridge to that future.
Finally, Obama's leadership is increasingly at stake in this emergency. I thought Peggy Noonan was premature in arguing in the Wall Street Journal this weekend that the spill has already broken his presidency, but her column certainly gave pause. The cameras down at the bottom of the sea give us vivid reminders that this oil is spewing forth day after day after day -- almost like the daily television reminders we had of how long our hostages were held in Teheran while Jimmy Carter sat helplessly in the White House, the authority leaking out of his presidency.
What can the White House do? For starters:
-- Set up a daily command center in Washington where a presidentially appointed leader runs the show, calls the shots, coordinates the overall effort, briefs the president and briefs the country
-- Have two deputies, one to direct the leak-stoppage and the other to direct the clean-up. Ex-CEOs and generals would be excellent candidates
-- Summon all the major oil and drilling companies to the White House for emergency efforts to get the hole plugged
-- Get BP out of the picture for clean-up; just send it the bill. If it is still needed for hole-plugging, okay, but ensure that it answers every day to directions from the government. If BP needs new internal leadership, figure out how to get that done
-- Employ the U.S. military for organizational coordination and where needed, for anything else such as clean-up
-- Make more aggressive efforts to tap the best minds in the world for help
-- Provide the country with the kind of daily briefings that the military has mastered for wartime -- bring in people who are smart, straight and tough
-- Ensure that economic assistance is provided to families, small businesses and communities that need it with dispatch and generosity
-- Call off the finger pointing until we get out of this mess
-- And finally, very importantly, exercise the powers of leadership every day from the Oval Office
The whole country now has a keen interest in the White House now taking full command. Mr. President, it's your move. The nation cannot afford to wait that long -- the government needs to summon all the big oil and drilling companies to the White House on an emergency basis and seek faster answers.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/05/30/gergen.oil.spill/index.html?hpt=C2
Good read. I've also been reading that Obama apparently rejected offers of help from Norway, Russia and Saudi Arabia, three countries who have extensive drilling experience and whose expertise would likely be helpful.
-
1. Cancel his vacation and actually go down there instead of eating ribs at a bbq.
2. Fast tracking Jindles' requests for the EPA permit.
3. Appoint Powell or someone to oversea this who actually has experience dealin with stuff.
4. Declare a state of ermegency to allow FEMA to go down there and hopefully get Jindle the booms and other stuff he needs.

"Cheney/bush deregulation caused gulf oil spill catastrophe"
Cheney's energy deregulation allowed our oil companies not to spend $500,000 on an acoustic switch to trigger the blowout prevention that would have stopped the disaster now looming off the gulf of Louisiana.

:o That's pretty funny.
-
Again, not a single feasible solution or suggestion to how to stop the spill. Instead just whining about what Obama is doing. Or not doing.
Not a single post that has anything of merit that can even pass for any kind of way to stop the spill.
Keep trying.
-
Idiot. He can't stop the spill, but can address the cleanup and getting the local people the resources to deal with the mess and getting the EPA off the states' back in building the barriers.
-
Idiot. He can't stop the spill,
Then WTF do you keep crying and blaming him for it then? Other than out of habit?
-
I didnt say he can stop the spill, but thats not the only part of this. The cleanup is also part of this and we pay taxes to the Federal Govt to deal with this stuff.
-
4. Declare a state of ermegency to allow FEMA to go down there and hopefully get Jindle the booms and other stuff he needs.
last time that happened, the police were shooting unarmed ppl in the back lol... (katrina)

I think people are saying:
1) They don't know a better solution
2) They know it is BP, not the govt, with the responsibility and skillset here
3) They wish Obama was down there in a lame PR effort, scrubbing rocks
4) They would criticize Obama for scrubbing rocks, saying he was pandering and wasting resources (it takes a lot of $ and men to protect him, while he scrubs rocks for 10 min for the cameras).
Right?
-
Ha ha. Maybe they should have shot more of them consdierng many went on to other states to commit crimes. ;D ;D

Can you explain why the govt. is dragging its feet on issuing the permits or whatever is required for the coastal states to start cleaning up and prevent more oil from hitting their shores? What stellar reasoning do they have for that?
-
I dunno why. They should obviously be issuing them immediately. We agree there.
My point is realistically, he's not gonna do much by being on the ground. If he was spending 6 weeks shaking hands with fisherman, we'd all be bitching about how he's ignoring everything else. The WH has been issuing statements all along. The CG has been floating right there with BP. The WH has been keeping us abreast of all the failed methods/attempts.
I hear so many people saying "obama should be doing something" but they don't know what.

I'm lost as to why he would rebuke offers of assistance from some of the most experienced drilling countries, drag his feet on letting the states start cleaning up, and then disappear while letting a company that continues to prove its ineptitude run the show.

Obviously if you were listening, it was stated that they would have to evaluate or had evaluated that options or assistance from other countries either will add or may not help in any way. Adding more to confusion and getting into the way. And some may not be environmental thesible. If you have noticed, that many oil drilling countries don't have that much oversight in their of environmental concerns, if their even is environmental concerns.
For instance the Russian option of nuking to plug it up...yep, and then you have a Bikini situation, where the waters still are radioactive 60 yrs laters...is that what you want?

Great video clip. A brave Obama doing what he can to help keep the nation moving ahead
He's fighting wall street, the party of NO, evil bankers, hell-bent iranians, and more. Yet he doesn't "call off the campaign" like a more senile candidate would have done.
No, he continues to manage the situation while carrying on with the many duties that comes with his job. it's that kind of multi-tasking that the nation needs. When Clinton was knee-deep in the Lewinski mess, he let Atta and friends plan 911. When Bush was knee-deep in stem cell debates, he let 911 happen.
But Obama has the ability to carry on, maintaining a brave facade and keeping his eye on the prize - a better America. God bless him, great video 333386.
hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa spinning is fun today

b]OBAMA OFF TO THE THEATER
Sent: Sun Jun 06 18:06:32 2010
Subject: pool report #1[/b]
Reception in the East Room prior to performance at Ford's Theatre
Print pool only was ushered into the East Room about 5:20 p.m. where many elegant ladies in long dresses and men in tuxedos were standing sipping drinks and eating small finger food. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood came over to say hello to the pool but the president and first lady were announced before there was any real conversation. A few faces spotted in the crowd, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Rep. John Dingell and his wife.
The president and first lady walked in and gave brief remarks to the crowd, but pooler was unable to actually see them because everyone was standing. We're headed over to Ford's Theatre shortly and should be able to see then what FLOTUS is wearing.
Remarks: The president welcomed everyone to the White House. He thanked the performers for taking time out of their busy schedules, as well as cabinet officials and members of Congress, including Sen. Reid.
Tonight is about celebrating the great work of Ford's Theatre and what it has done to preserve the legacy of presidents and highlight the importance of the arts and education in our lives and the life of our nation. "In many ways it's impossible to separate the history of America from the history of its music and its spoken word. Soldiers have sung as they've marched to war and raised their voices again while laying the burden to rest."
Lyrics on a page and voices on a stage have helped make us across generations and across cultures, backgrounds, and faiths. Great leaders including Lincoln himself have drawn inspiration and courage from the arts. "And on a personal note, they helped each of us express the joys and hardships of life while bringing us closer to each other."
This is especially true during moments of trial. The president said there have been a lot of trials over the past year and a half. Now, there are brothers and sisters in the Gulf Coast who are going through an incredibly difficult time in the face of a disaster unlike any we've seen of late. "I want to emphasize again that we're going to do everything we can in the weeks and months and years ahead to make this right," and everyone here feels the same way.
But tonight, we will celebrate not only music, song, and performances, but also the incredible legacy of Ford's Theatre and some award recipients who have done some much to help others in this country and around the world.
Pool was ushered out about 5:26 p.m.
According to the Ford's Theatre website, the event tonight is described as follows:
Ford's Theatre Society will host its annual gala on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW). The evening's performance, titled "America Celebrates July 4th at Ford's Theatre," will be taped for broadcast on the ABC Television Network to air July 2, 2010 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET). Modern Family cast member Ty Burrell hosts a star-studded program with appearances by Kelly Clarkson, Renee Fleming, George Lopez, Lionel Richie, Robin Roberts, Dick Van Dyke, Laura Michelle Kelly and Gavin Lee from the Broadway Company of "Mary Poppins," the Soldiers' Chorus of the United States Army Field Band, and cast members from the Ford's Theatre production of "Little Shop of Horrors."

We are holding in the lobby of the theatre with two large-screen television sets showing the live performance within.
The president and first lady were announced and walked to their seats at front row center. FLOTUS is wearing a stunning silver strapless dress with a large crystal necklace with what looks like two small fabric bows on either side. Designer unknown to pooler.

Obama golfs for four hours in sweltering heat
By Bridget Johnson - 06/13/10 06:12 PM ET

President Barack Obama spent four hours on the golf course Sunday in temperatures that peaked in the low 90s.
The White House pool reported that they left Andrews Air Force Base as it started to rain after 4 p.m.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood was among the group golfing with Obama.
Also reportedly in the golfing group were White House Trip Director Marvin Nicholson and photographer David Katz.
The president leaves Monday for his fourth trip to the Gulf Coast since the BP oil spill began nearly two months ago. On the trip, the President will visit Gulfport, Miss., Theodore, Ala., and Pensacola, Fla., to survey the response efforts, visit with Gulf residents impacted by the spill and meet with area officials.

White House dispatch: Obama highlights optimism in Gulf

Theodore, Alabama (CNN) - President Barack Obama used a lemon-lime snow cone to show that parts of the Gulf Coast remain unaffected by the oil spill –and that he's fully engaged in the ongoing crisis on a day and a half visit to the region.
At his first stop in Gulfport, Mississippi, the president was briefed by Admiral Thad Allen and other officials on the latest effort to cap and contain the oil. And the president said that many locations are still open for tourism and unaffected by the spill.
"We just want to make sure that people who have travel plans down to the Gulf area remain mindful of that, because if people want to know what can they do to help folks down here, one of the best ways to help is to come down here and enjoy the outstanding hospitality," the president said.
The president said he was updated on the need for better coordination of Skimmers and other assets involved in the effort, so that more oil is kept off area beaches.
Obama said they also discussed concerns about problems residents are facing as they file claims to recover money from BP.
In another Gulf state where the president heads next, there is optimism and despair.
Some residents around Theodore, Alabama, where Obama will tour a staging area in which booms are cleaned and de-contaminated, are glad to be getting the administration's attention.
But one man says it's nothing more than a "photo op." Jim Hall, a retired executive and longtime local resident who has lived and fished on the Gulf since the 1980's, wants the administration to talk less and do more.
There is plenty of pain to go around.
Harry Jemison, the owner of Jemison's Bait-N-Tackel shop reeled in a nice trout that he cooked up for breakfast, but the longtime family business is hurting.
He was on course to realize a record year for his small business. But the oil spill put a stop to his season.
Everyone is "afraid to fish," he said.
Some days he shuts down early. Sunday was so slow that he sent two employees home early.
The ocean views are still spectacular here. Large pelicans are perched on what once was a dock. Sometimes, it's hard to imagine that a crisis bubbles below. Or, in some spots, on the surface.
