I'm going on a cruise for the first time in August. I'm only going because it's free. I don't like the idea of being trapped on a shipped for a week, but apparently these things are huge, free food 24*7. I always pictured old people as the only ones that go on cruises.
Has anyone went? What did you think?

Carnival is the cheaper generic version of Royal Caribbean. Crowd is the cheaper version as well. Younger college students and the elderly buffet dinosaurs.
Not one I would actually pay money to go on. But since it is free for you, just relax and have a great time. Food is decent. Holland America line is known for the knock out food service. Carnival isn't. Though there are some sites that you can go to and download/view the exact menu for all restaurants for the time period you are going. Start at the carnival site and see if the link is there. The food is 90% included in the cruise free. The only exception is the upper style restaurants and specialty dining options. The drinks and shore excursions are where they get you for the $$$$

Mars went on the Getbig cruise but no one else turned up.

The Love Boat soon will be making another run... Love, exciting and new, come aboard, we'll be expecting you.

I cannot wait for some of these HUGE cruise ships with millions of guests and personal to go under

Seriously dude have you ever seen that series on Discovery channel? Cruise ship diary.
These fucking things and especially the "performers" on the ship (with exception of the hot dance girls) are a fucking abomination.

I have not been on a Carnival cruise before, but i have done holland america twice and they were both top notch, and the food was amazing. I have heard a lot of bad stories about Carnival from bed bugs, to food illness. Since you aren't paying for it, I agree have fun but if you ever pay for it yourself definately keep in mind you get what you pay for on cruises.

I've been finding youtube videos and I swear it's been all fat people. I guess fat people and buffets go hand in hand

Enjoy though, it's free!

ive been on 2 Carnival cruises, both were awesome. cruises are actually an EXCELLENT deal cost-wise. you get lodging and INFINITE FOOD, as well as access to so many things. theres really nothing like a cruise.
Carnival is like the entry-level one i think, but it is PERFECTLY GOOD unless you are some kind of arrogant snob used to staying at the ritz-carlton and only associates with rich people.
i never had any complaints, i mean shit they treat you so good you feel like fucking royalty walking around being served and attended constantly.
like someone said the drinks and the shore excursions is where they get you cost-wise. drinks are expensive but honestly when im on a cruise i dont really feel like just sitting around and drinking anyways.
id recommend it for sure, id have zero problems going on dozens more carnival cruises.

You will be lucky to see a handful of other people that have ever even seen the inside of a gym. Great people watching. As far as alcohol goes, on my cruises i was able to buy an entire bottle of whiskey for about 30-35 bucks which is a bargain when you are paying 8-10 per mixed drink.

so what you're saying is MOS will blend right in

Its ok the first few days then it gets kinda boring. Some of the food is okay most of it is crap. Shore excursions don't have to be bought from carnival, excursions are offered by the native people for cheaper and they are more fun. All around its a decent experience.

I've been on both Royal Caribbean and Carnival (2x on RC)
like someone above said, Carnival is the cheap entry level cruise line..RC is the upper class, top notch one.
Going on another cruise for my honeymoon in few months, will def. be Royal Caribbean

-
Mars never returned he has been missing for sometime..
hes over on getbig2 (muscle week) posting up a storm. in the middle east trying to organize the 3rd intifada against the infidels
-
congrats.
Thanka! :) Royal Carribean really is top notch, Carnival is good for the money , but you can tell it's aimed at a cheaper market, RC really was incredible.. esp. with event planning and activities , every morning you were delivered a daily itenirary of daily events , functions and shows.. this was a huge drawback on Carnival where no one knew what the hell was going on and when, generally it seemed a bit disorganized. The buffet on Carnival was all fried American type food, on RC you had a crazy buffet selection 24/7 and tons of fat free healthy food as well. RC also had a best body contest which I won :) I got a gift certificate to some of the ship stores, a RC windbreakrt, hat , champagne and big medal and trophy! it was cool as hell.

I'm going to have to check out RC. That sounds like the cruise I need to be on.
I've done the Carnival. Did honeymoon on it ... I agree, events are all over the place. We slept through that meet the captain sh*t and also missed the dress up dinner.
..and yes...found ourselves eating a lot of the bad food b/c we either were out on tours..etc and got back late or just flat out missed the dinners. I think we made breakfast once. lol I had an ok time, I just wish it was more adult and sexy. Had a lot of kids on that cruise we went on. Zero sexiness on the pool decks. Comedy show was funny though.
I think I put on 10lbs of FAT on that cruise. LOL terrible just terrible. Def. going Royal next time around.

That seems to be the issue. All of the 24 hour a day food places are pure junk food. Once you open the flood gates it will be hard to stop eating.
-

Don't know why but I found this hilarious. Like you get off the ship, hold up your hand and say "How."
-
I always gain weight on cruises...I try to work out though at the gym every day so it isn't AS bad.
Plus I tend to eat a little of everything rather than just gorging myself every night.
Towards the end though, I start getting sick of eating until my stomach feels like it is going to burst and I start eating regularly again. Then again all you have to do is look at many of the folks in the buffet lines and that is enough to motivate you to start reigning in the buffet.
-

Yep. I knew damn well I was wrong for eating like that and drinking all those drinks, but it seemed like all you had to do was walk around with your cup and there was somebody lurking around to fill it up again 24/7.
The best was when we were walking back to our cabin and this couple was absolutely destroyed in front of us. They each had drinks in both hands bouncing off the walls trying to make it to their cabin. LOL. Now had 75% of the passengers been like this on carnival...hell yeah..I'd go back.
Mostly were either old, families with tons of kids, honeymooners and rest just random mofo's out of place.
-
Going on Carnival in 2 weeks, have used them before never had a problem. I am a little worried about the food though this time around. I agree wasnt much of a selection for healthy eating. But I may just say fuck it and have a cheat week :)
Enjoy it ease up a little and you'll have fun hell MOS maybe you can find ya a Hefty Buffet hunter to tap on for the week :)

That was more or less my experience on carnival, a lot of fat Americans from the south, college kids, etc RC seemed a lot more geared to people with money or at least middle class.. as far as both cruise lines there was not an abundance of seniors (I don't know where this stereotype started)
though in all fairness the high end formal dinner at Carnival was as good as RC, i had fillet mignon 4 nights and double servings, the waiters had no problem giving me double dinners on either cruise line. Also to add, I hear norwegian cruise lines is hands down the worst, small uncomfortable ships and crappy food with small portions.

thanks for the heads up.
Yes, we heard the dinner was really nice from the passengers later that night at a show. We were disappointed we missed by sleeping through it. :(
-
as for the food: there is offered 3 'formal' meals per day in the dining hall. these meals are high-quality food. its only the all-day snack buffets/outlets that offer the typical low-quality junk foods. you can just eat the 3 full service meals a day and you would be fine, its your own choice whether or not you want to binge on the 24/7 snack buffet stuff.

Been on a few and it depnds on the ship and the ports. OVERALL a cruise is a great experience. Most have an ok spa type gym with some basic equipment and awesome jacuzzis, etc. You can eat, eat, eat and just kick back and party .
What ship and ports are you going to hit? Just curious. I would go to their web site , check out the actual ship you are going on.

you dont have to dress formal. i meant 'formal' as in you sit down and get served through a waiting staff as opposed to just a buffet line or something, and the food and setting is good quality. i just wore shorts and t-shirts or whatever. the only real 'formal' event is the captain's dinner thing, which is obviously optional to attend, but its the one time during the cruise drinks are free ;D

Gotcha, yeah I meant the Captains Dinner. That wont happen for me again, dont think we actually had a meal where we didnt go get ourselves except for the Captains Dinner. Oh Well back at the point in hand Cruises are a fucking blast. Got 2 weeks and 2 days til were outta here for Florida for 2 days then Bahamma Cruise for 5 days.

I went on a 7 day cruise around a chain of small tropical islands last summer.
It was interesting. Life on a boat can be brutal. The islands were amazing, but the boat trip was kinda rough. It kinda killed my romantisized visions of what boat life is all about.
By the end of it I was VERY happy to get the fuck off that boat and back onto the big island. With the freedom to walk around anywhere, be alone, not run into the same people every 2 minutes. No more violent rocking of the boat making me sick.
But this was a small boat. A huge ship would be different i'm sure. A pussy version of boat life.

Australian cruise ships are where its at.
Captain Tightass right there. Dude needs a drink and a bj.

I'm pretty sure I ran into you when I took Carnival to the Bahamas about a year ago, there was a guy your size that looks exactly like you..did you happen to go to the Bahamas around that time?! if it was you then we kept looking at each other for the whole boat trip to Grand Nassau cause we were the only two guys on the boat that clearly worked out..lol

Nope sorry wasnt me, this will be my first trip to the Bahammas. We went to the Caymans a couple years ago and some guy on the ship was a powerlifter and he reconized me from Powerlifting USA dude ended up buying us some drinks, was kinda cool. Did you ever say anything to the dude or just exchange that look like we all do?
-
Which look is this? The fierce staring daggers badass look, or the yeah we brothers of da iron look :)

We just exchanged the look, lol...the guy looked so much like you it was uncanny, he seemed to want to engage in conversation but by the time he was close enough (it was a big ferry) we were getting off the boat.

Yes wolman. Photos of fat chicks, buffett and hot chicks iif they exist.

I'm going on a RC cruise in September. It sure will be nice to see BP's stamp on everything. I've never been on a cruise before, but from what I see it's mostly all inclusive food...but not drinks??? I see a wine, sods, juice, and water packages but nothing about beer??? wtf?? ???

You'll have a great time, RC now has the largest cruise ship in the world.. complete with indoor park/forest
it's called the Oasis and has something like 27 levels, lol..it's a fucking floating city..

Did my first cruise in March on RC. Just a short 3 night Bahamas cruise. It was fun. Good food, great service and drinks weren't crazy expensive. after 4 days though, I was ready to get off the ship. Going on the Oasis of the Seas in July for a week. Should be great. Just hope I don't go crazy being on a boat for a week.
-
After doing a couple of larger cruise ships, everyone should try a smaller line like the Windstar. Once you experience those cruises and getting directly into ports that larger ships can't you will never go back to a mass hull floating city again.
-
I have always wanted to jump off one of these and have Bruce Willis and a hot girl rescue me of course Bruce can drive while we enjoy hanging out in the back of the boat.

This thing is like twice the size of all the other ships around, I can't honestly even imagine how big it is...
I really didn't feel too stuffed on any of my cruises (3) yes you ran into the same people sometimes (esp. at dinner or breakfast) but overall there was so much room and so much to do and see it didn't really seem to be an issue. Also considering you were docked at a different island pretty much every day (morning to evening) meant you could go and explore the island or swim on the beach and not be stuck on the ship. Most of the ships sail overnight and they all have stabilizers built in so you don't rock like you do on a small boat. These things are literally floating cities, each one has an average of 15-20 restaurants/eating spots and 10-20 stores on board, many have golf, ice skating, rock climbing, etc. as well so for those who think you'd be bored out of your mind after a day or two, you're crazy.

I've actually never been on cruise, but everyone I talk to that has, thought it sucked. I much prefer private resorts in secluded areas, away from all the riff raff.

Forgive me if I offend, but most run of the mill cruises appeal to Trailer Trash Honeymooners whose only wish is to dock in front of a Golden Corral after their Disney themed "Tropical" boat ride comes to melancholy end. :-\

Normally I'd agree, but apparently there are cuisine oriented cruises for foodies which you might enjoy. The report I got is that the chefs did not disappoint.
-
I leave in 10 days for my cruise and I am totally looking forward to it. I was not dissapointed last time we went and I'm sure I wont be this time. The folks on the cruise were for the most part middle class america of all races. There was a great mix of folks and from what I seen everyone was having a blast. The entertainment was good, the food was good, and the whole cruise was more then worth the money we spent on it.
Everyone keeps knocking Carnival do you guys know Carnival owns 50% of the market share on cruise lines? Royal Carribean is 2nd with 30% Norweigan is 3rd with 10% and it filters down from there. So for all you knocking Carnival apparently some folks like them, if its trashy middle class america well fuck call me Trashy cause I'm looking forward to having a great time with a bunch of trashy lowlife ghetto ass trailer trash honeymooners who really dont give a fuck what us Getbiggers think about them :)
Bring on the boat, bring on the food, bring on the bloat, bring on the hr on the treadmill/elip every morning to burn it off while I'm on the boat. I'm gonna have afucking blast and come back and tell you guys all about it :)

Not dissing it bro but compared to RC the quality is just not there, and that is reflected in the price! it's like comparing Kia to Mercedez, sure they both have engines and drive but one is ultimately a premium brand while the other is entry level.
No hate.
Have a good trip :)
give us details and pics.
-
have a good time wolf, eat yourself silly and enjoy
im going in october, on holland america again
and get a buffet queen for us!
one with a big fat ass!

Oh I agree on that, was just pointing out how some people were totally dissing Carnival and the folks on the boat.
RC's big ship looks cool as hell and they got a kick ass HUGE zip line across the top where you are like 75 feet up in the air. Were gonna do this every other year so maybe next time I will shell out more bones for a RC and compare them.

Go for it big man! LOL I would love to see you embarass everyone in the gym, you can probably dumbell press more then they can squat....hahahaha! :) you will have a blast, take some pics for us getbiggers! and most of all enjoy yourself
one more thing, I shouldn't say this since you're married but the show dancers are smoking hot, and usually available
-
Carnival is alright but I prefer RC. The wife and I are looking into doing a 4-day trip to the Bahamas or another tropical destination soon. I like to dive and my wife likes the sun, so it's a perfect quick getaway from Florida.

I just got back from a 7 day Carnival cruise on Sunday for our honeymoon. It was our first cruise but I have to agree I could have done without all of the kids and white trash that were there as well. We didn't see any shows, mostly spent time gambling. Was disapointed that they only had pizza to eat from 2:30AM on till breakfast, but you can order room service with a limited menu. The adult pool area was scary as well......alot of OBESE people in bathing suits with BAD tattoos. Overall it was a good trip but will try RC next time.

So it seems that I would probably be spending most of my time at the casino. Do they have texas hold'em there? If not, I would be hiting the black jack tables.

Just got off RC's Oasis of the seas on Saturday. The ship was awesome. It didn't even feel like a ship. Food was good and the shows were actually good. Just gambled, drank and got some sun. Worked out 4 days too. The gym was huge for a cruise ship gym. Had 158 machines, between cardio and hammer strength stuff. Had a smith machine with about 500lbs of weight, but the DB's only went up to 75lb. Still a good amount of stuff to stay a little on your routine if you want. i'll post a couple pics so you can see the size compared to the to the other ships.

Any hot chicks there or just old ladies plying bingo and shouffle board?

There were a couple, but nothing like when you go on a shorter cruise to the Bahamas or something. It was more families and older couples.

Clearly, you are not a getbigger.

Oh shit I forgot about this thread I didsnap some big uns for you guys still need to download them. Got one o the most massive fat back I have ever ever ever seen!!! I fucking ate and ate and ate on that thing and gained 22 fucking pounds!!! I shit you not 22 fucking pouinds!!!
I got drunk, sang Karaoke with a rather large Black man only other powerlifter on the boat. Thesame night being drunk I did the Macarena, the Cupid Shuffle, The Electric slide, the YMCA and was in a congo line of 186 people. Then was chosen to come out in the middle of that circle of 186 people and strut my stuff. I totally pulled off my fat drunk white guy dance, then realized it was all being taped to be aired on the tv the next day. Hahahhaha that was funny as shit seeing it :)
There were a few weightlifters, one really shredded dude but not real big and one guy who was pretty decent size reminded me of a football coach type. There was plenty of cuties but most were with guys. But plenty of eye candy!!! BUT the majority was very large very obese people!!! I am by no means a small guy, I wear size 40 pants and more then fill out a 2xl shirt, but these folks made me feel in good shape!!!
I mingled amongst the herds every day thru the buffet lines. For those of you who are afraid to go casue of the food, GO there was plenty of healthy options for dining. Even in the buffet lines you could each very clean if you chose to. I myself choce not to hahaha!!! I had at least 2 chili dogs everyday of the cruise and that was just the start of my bad eating. Ice cream everytime I stepped foot on the Lido Deck and more then made up my 30 bucks I spent for a soda card!!!
We had a blast and our baot died in the water for 3 hrs the last night we were there. Everything was dead in the water no engine, no backup, no swer, no water, everything DEAD!!! And whats funny is we were literally in the bermuda triangle. I shiot you not, but we get 20% off our next cruise!
