The Cuaba Exclusivo from Cuba. Amazing smoke if you prefer something smoother and less aggressive, as I frequently do. Mid price, mid size perfecto/torpedo. Longest smoke I've ever had. The thing just wouldn't sour. Only had one but have ordered 10 more and see a box in my future. This could be my new go-to cigar. I was that impressed.
The Padron range. Nicaraguan, so available in the US. Only tried 2 from their standard range (Panatella and the 7000) but was impressed and have ordered a few more. Didn't suffer at all from the usual one dimensional taste of non-Cubans, so my veulta abajo snobbishness is no more after these.
Ramon Allones. Cuban. Their specially selected/selecion especial continues to appeal to me when I want something a little earthier and with some bite to it.
I have given up on my Punch. :( Their tobacco is awesome but the idiots have basically forgotten how to roll. Draw issues have forced me to look elsewhere. I have recently had to return 16 petits, and their flagship Punch Punch is so hit & miss it feels more like gambling than buying a good cigar.
What are you reaching for these days?

I can handle a Monte at the back end of a big weekend, like if I've been smoking heavily and killed off the weaker parts of myself, but normally they're too full on for me. You might find the Cuaba really boring, haha.
-
I'm not a kiss-ass Getbig guy, but I think Disturbia's avatar is HOF material. Great pic.

Spent 24 canadian dollars on a smoke this weekend Partagas-Havana P#2, seemed a bit steep but fuck it, company dime.

I love monte cristo as well! got 2 boxes when I was in Cuba!
also Romeo & Julietta and to a lesser degree (because of the outrageous price) Cohiba
for a cheaper cigar Guantanamela are amazing and smooth, that's what i usually have when I'm having a ps3 call of duty party, we take turns playing online with cigars and good vodka!

Take it easy, stud. Patience is a virtue. ;D
Yep. http://www.cigarworld.com.au/cigars/index.html He seems like a pretty good dude. Even offered to reimburse me for 6 Punch petits which I had struggled through (found one that smoked right in the 22 he had available), but I was happy enough that he'd accept the 16 remaining back. Some of these guys, like my local shop, will just shrug and tell you it's hard luck.
The local guy is in a very high rent area too and his prices are just absurd because of it. Last time I was in there, 2 dudes in suits were holding a conversation that was straight out of American Psycho. I should have asked to see their business cards. "Is that a watermark?" Dickheads...

Never had a bad one and have a least one a week if they're on hand. Sometimes I want something more delicate tho. I should just give in a buy a box already but I'm doing a little exploring these days.

Sweet. I have to find out what the import tax will be. Australia is cruel. Your Padron '64 is $30 here. I try to stay under $25 but I'll get one to try out.

Indeed. The Holts box price of $10.90 per would probably double after tax. Couldn't see the tariff making it triple tho.

I smoked shitloads when I was younger but started getting paranoid more & more frequently. After awhile, I hated being stoned anywhere but at home, and even that wasn't very relaxing for me. Bad brains maybe.

Miss things like what? What are you talking about?
I think you're talking about getting drunk, that'll make you go into an oblivion and "miss things", smoking weed will not.

Yeah, it does induce paranoia in a lot of people. I do get it once in a while, but not every time.
I've cut it down to where I smoke maybe once every 6 - 8 weeks, which makes it very pleasant.

Tried some again a couple years ago at home. Rolled the world's smallest joint. It was ok, but I knew I wouldn't want to be out at a bbq or whatever. Some people seem to get really social with it.

What's your favorite smoke at the moment X?

I smoke maduro almost exclusively, so my choices are a bit limited. My trusted standby are Ashton's aged maduros (pyramid). In a pinch I'll do a RyJ maduro.
Still wondering about trying the new Cohiba Behike, but I am hesitant to spend over 30 euros on a cigar which isn't my regular type (not maduro) anyway.

That's what the associated cognac is for. ;D

you only gonna stink up your suit with a cigar, how refined taste, if you dont really taste it? your brain needs to taste a rush that you get more from cigar than a cigarette.

Most guys just do it because they've seen too many action movies where the lead characters are smoking cigars, looking cool. Too many GQ magazines, advertisements, billboards.
It's all about image. And it's considered a man's thing to do. Women are almost never into cigars. That's why you have all these monkeys here posting up pics of themseles smoking cigars, in a desperate attempt to prove their manhood.
-

I inhale some. Not the whole thing by a longshot, but a bit through the nose sometimes and what might get left in the mouth, accidentally or on purpose. ;) Probably 25%. I doubt anyone could claim to expel every wisp of smoke and not be inhaling any at all.

I started the thread to tell others what I enjoy and to get some first hand recommendations in return.
As for the act of cigar smoking, can you conceive of someone doing something without regard to image? Surely you do at least one thing you enjoy simply because you enjoy it. Same thing.

You might not have been taught this in first grade biology class, but you have no taste buds in your throat or lungs. See? You learn something new every day.

I remember it as being pretty easy smoking but it was kind of short lived. Do you put it out halfway down or did I just overpuff mine?

I am with you bro. $25 for a cigar! Bag of kind bud costs $50 and you're high for dayz. Nothing against cigar smokers though, to each his own. My prob is I am so programmed to inhale when I try to smoke a cigar I cant not inhale. Do Marlboro reds count? Smoke them like a champ. ;D

Cheers medz. Pretty sure I've seen them at the local shop but don't think I ever got around to it. I'll check 'em out.
Bolivar for a bolder taste. Fonseca probably my fav love that rich almost chocolaty taste.
Had my first Fonseca today, their Lonsdale #1. It was advertised as being quite mild but I wouldn't describe it as such, so it caught me a little unaware. Still had a nice flavor, a little bite, no faults, and an excellent burn because I was making it last. For some reason it reminded me of a friends house from when I was a kid. Haven't thought about that guy in years. Funny how sense memory works.

$25 would be a very upmarket cigar in the US. That's no guarantee of quality (screw Davidoff) but you'd get an awesome Padron or a God of Fire for less than that. Probably one of each and some change.
Have a cigar and smoke it however you want, inhale, not, whatever. Then have a cigarette. Cigs taste like they came out of a chemical bath. I'm not convinced there's any tobacco in those things.
No Cuban hookup here in the states for me so that what I go with for a good cigar.
Ya the one I had was nothing to argue with. Can't remember the make of it but it was a tubo (only slide tubo I've ever seen) and about 5.5" with a robusto gauge. I remember thinking it was almost too smooth at the start, but that's what I'm moving toward these days so I'll have another look at it.
This guy isn't smart enough to understand this comment. Well stated might I add!
Thanks X. He just hasn't seen that once in awhile the trolling gets put aside and we have a regular thread without the usual ballbusting.

Somewhere in the middle, I like smooth good burning cigars, my friend has recently gotten me into Fonseca's
but when I am at home I still enjoy my Montecristo's or Guantanamera's.

Is that Pechanga or Viejas?
I used to go to Viejas all the time, I lived just a 5 minutes drive from there in East County.
I never went in there sober. Used to smoke blunts on this nearby mountain top under the stars, then go in there and gamble it up.

Honduran eh? Don't think I've tried one before. Had a crispy drugstore robusto awhile ago. I was a good sport, but in truth it should have come with some of that barrier gel for your face that Hollywood uses when they have to do a burning man stunt.
What are a couple of your favorites, Alex? You've mentioned the Cohiba in the past, but I can't afford that price range for anything but a special occasion. Any more affordable recommendations?

All very good cigars. I smoke mostly all of them too

OK Guys, help me out here so I can figure if I am doing it wrong.
I am fairly new to the cigar game and have thus far smoked some medium quality cigars; not usper high end, but not the trashy cheapos either. The problem is, all of the cigars I smoke tend to go out pretty fast. I am taking a little break between draws and by the time I take the next draw the cigar is usually burning pretty weak. When I draw, the smoke is pretty weak and i have to draw 1-2 more times before a thick smoke will come into my mouth again. I have tried to measure how long a break I taking between draws and it was around 40-50 seconds. I have read that you should wait a minute between draws and if I were to do that, the cigar would almost be out. What is going on here?
Also, will cigars always have a bitter tone to them, or will the really high end cigars not have any bitterness at all?
Thanks Gents

Well, my first thought is that I smoke a lot faster than that. A minute between draws sounds like an eternity to me. I probably hit it every 15-30 seconds.
I'd guess there could be all sorts of reasons. Construction, humidity, the leaves themselves, but if you're smoking mid range brands then they're probably short filled, meaning cut pieces of tobacco instead of whole leaves. I imagine these would require a little more attention since they might burn irregularly and you'd have to help it over an occasional dead spot. The other possibility I'd suggest, although it sounds counterintuitive, is that your cigar might be a little dry and it's burning itself out quickly.
Taste is an individual matter, of course. Some guys in this thread are smoking things I find way too flavorsome. I'd need an ambulance after a Romeo y Julieta Churchill, although I've enjoyed their smaller sizes occasionally before, while at other times I knew from the first puff that I was in over my head. All I can say is shop around and try different brands. It seems like how different makers process their tobacco makes a big difference, because Cuba isn't a very big place but the variety of flavors that they produce is amazing. If you're finding one cigar to be very much like another, try a few standard smokes (none of the overpriced 'limited edition' nonsense) from premium brands and I bet you'll be surprised. I'd still suggest a Cuaba Exclusivo, and I still love Punch flavor, although Punch can be a little short lived and their rolling is awful these days (I won't buy a Punch unless they cut it and let me check the draw in the store). The only other thing to bear in mind is not to pair your cigar with something unsuitable. I never drink bourbon with a cigar because I find it far too sweet to match up.

Thank you very much Tapeworm. If the reason is that the cigars are too dry (I think this is a more likely candidate, because the ones I smoked thus far were all long filler cigars), how many days in a humidor would I need? My humidor would be simply tight closing jar with a little cigar juice at the bottom (soaked up in a sponge)

No worries, bro. When it comes to rehydrating, I'm not going to be much help, I'm afraid. I go through my stock fast enough they don't have a chance to dry out. :D I'd guess give 'em a week and see if they are smoking any differently for you and make sure the shop you're buying from stores them in a humid room.

Buy a real fuckin humidor and store them correctly, what's the point of putting $400 worth of cigars in a 10 cent jar with a wet sponge?

Man I must have made good impression here. $400 worth of cigars???
Coming back to the original question; are those cigars going out because they are to dry or due to another reason?

I was just theorizing. Could be anything. I'd try some other smokes and see how you do. And if in doubt just puff a little more.

Go to your local store and buy a smoke and smoke it immidiately, if it goes out, you probably need to puff more.
Quit being a jew bastard and buy a humidor or at the very least buy one of the disposable humidor bags, that's what I started with, they are good for about 6 months.

Cigars don't go out if they're too dry. Dry cigars have cracks or make a crunchy noise when you handle them. If you can't get a good draw of smoke on a cigar it means usually it is over humidified or the cigar is rolled tightly.
Some cigars don't have good draws even if they're stored properly. For these the best thing to do is make a big guillotine cut and rod it with a long thin cigar rasp.
If you want to re humidify a cigar throw them in a seasoned humidor for atleast 2 months to get them back to par.
But if you're spending good money on cigars and not storing them in a humidor then you're throwing away your money.

I just walked into my local cigar shop and this just made my day.

I can see a new smoker not wanting to spring for a humidor. The bags are a good option but you'd probably do just as well with a ziplock. Tbh, I don't see anything wrong with a 10 cent jar, provided he doesn't have the sponge in direct contact with the cigars.
Trailer Approved.

No, but chances are any Cuban cigar purchased in Mexico is going to be a knock off fake so in reality it's not even a cuban. There are only a handfull of legit resellers name La Casa Del habanos that are ran by the Cuban distribution company. Problem is there was an asshole that worked at the one in TJ who stole from people years back. You'd grab a legit box of montes off of the shelf, go to the cash and pay and as he went to put the box in a bag, he'd pull and old switcheroo and grab a fake box he brought in and put it in the bag. Most loser americans didn't know the diff until he tried to ripoff a man in the know and they busted his ass.
Sorry to tell you that 99% of "cuban" cigars sold in mexico are knock offs.
Just check out this site. www.justfakes.com. You can litteraly buy a $10 box of cigars and turn them into a $400 dollar box.

Just got a Cao Brazilia as a present. Smells great, can't wait to light it. Not today though: storms and cigars don't mix. :-\

The bags have the little humidfier pouches inside them and are way thicker, and they are cheap. I don't see why someone would spend good money on smokes then store them in a little jar with a sponge. :-\

Depends on how many he's buying at a time. I know I like smoking, probably a little too much, so I spent for a good sized box that looks nice in the living room and can accomodate a big order. Looking pretty hollow at the moment, sadly.

I got a nice 50 count box and didn't pay that much compared to the cigars I put in it.

I bought two CAO's that are now sitting in their wrapper and waiting for me :-D
The other day I downed a Romeo Y Julieta Churchill - was damn good!

What type of CAO? Looks like I'll be huffing my first CAO tonight. Smells great; really heavy, creamy, and chocolaty.

They're both CAO Cameroon!
Enjoy brotha, can't wait to light mine up!

The wife is already heating up the cognac, so I can get started as soon as I get home. :)

I was just given a box of Tabak Especial Toro Dulce for my birthday. Delicious.
