Funniest thread on this board in months.

Obama is not brilliant and not empathetic.  If he was he would not be pushing a regressive energy tax and soon to be oppresive VAT tax.

he's briliant if you agree with his silly goals.

he got healthcare thru.  he got stim bill thru.  He got fin reg bill thru.  He'll probably get cap/trade after this oil mess.

What exact legislation has Obama failed on thus far?

Clinton is sounding more "southern" than I remember. When did he go back to Arkansas? ???

Bush got the patriot act and tax cuts and no child left behind passed, did you consider GWB BRIILIANT?

Obama has rammed partisan crap down the public's throat.  How impressive.   ::)  If he was truly "brilliant" he would be able to work with Democrats and Republicans to pass or repeal legislation (if needed).  Instead, he's a master at barely getting the consent of his own party to pass unpopular laws.  Doesn’t sound like brilliance to me.

for meeting his evil agenda, he did okay.  he did fial on social security privitization and amnesty.

Obama's pretty much undefeated thus far, right?

Obama has rammed partisan crap down the public's throat.

Bush had a Repub congress for 6 years - he had everything giftwrapped just like Obama has enjoyed.

okay, excluding that one (which is still highly likely)...

what legislation has obama failed on?

Shit, he's probably gotten more of his goals accomplished in 15 months than most presidents in history, right?  Complete HCR reform?  Clinton couldn't do it in 8 years.

Toss in the fact he'll *probably* get a lame duck congress to push amnesty in December... Feliz navidad!  and of course, once the oil gets really bad, we'll see Cap/Trade swoop in to save the day.

Toss out your own position on the issues and anger at him - you have to admit he's been more aggressive in completing his agenda- and successful - than most.

Bush had a Repub congress for 6 years - he had everything giftwrapped just like Obama has enjoyed.

Aside from being untrue, this has zero to do with whether Obama rammed partisan crap down the American people's throat.  The fact is he has done little more than barely get the consent of his own party to pursue things the majority of the country disagrees with.  He has been total failure at getting bipartisan support.  A "brilliant" leader would be much more effective.

No surprise that only 29 percent of the country believe we are headed in the right direction.

[This is the part where you mention Bush and/or Palin.]

Didn't Repubs own the congress for bush's first 6 years?

Bush didn't have "everything giftwrapped."  Even the controversial legislation had bipartisan support.  What does this have to do with Obama?

here is something to compare,   at the start of the war on terror 68% of america supported bush on that,  then it took years to drop to where we all know it ended.

obama only had 48% of american approval at the passage of healthcare.  It took bush 5 years to be at an approval rate of 48% over the war on terror

my concern is that obama has been at 45 to 50% for the last 9 or 10 months.

healthcare, finreg, everything else... he lost his initial groupees, but he's remained consistent even as economy has sucked and HCR passed.

What more can he do to hit anything lower than 45%?  He was at 46% today.

maybe 240 its because people dont understand  much less bother to read any of the shit that obama is forcing upon us, so why would they think bad,   when bush took us to war  people understood that. its a cut and dry thing, everyone knows what war is.  but look at nancy pelosi and th rest of these ass hats, they know that 99% of america is not going to read the healthcare bill. so they dont tell you anything about it except lies, then say  ( well if you wana know whats in you gota let us pass it)  come on  seriously,  and they are still saying that about their bills that are in the works.  I mean seriously  240  would you buy a house that the seller wouldnt let you look into and told you that if you wana know what the inside is like you gota buy it first?

again, I'm not defending obama and i'm damn sure not defending pelosi LMAO...

The repubs are doing a fine job letting us know that Obama's team uses the R-word and that they are oh so offended.  They do a fine job making headlines apologizing to BP or screaming "you lie" or talking about "Death panels" which were created under Bush.

They aren't talking about the issues that matter.   I wonder why?

Hell, Bush had death panels in his own state in 1999

And yes, in 2005 they came out of a repub congress.

240  would you buy a house that the seller wouldnt let you look into and told you that if you wana know what the inside is like you gota buy it first?

Of course not dude.  And for the 9999th time - people on getbig confuse my admiration of obama's political ability with approval of his policy.  It's not accurate.

I also admired Rove's use of division to rule... and I despised much of what he got thru.

Hell, cheney was a major league liar - but i admire his ability to pass energy/war/base agenda he co-wrote in PNAC (most of you repubs dont konw what this is).

So it is possible to admire the political ability of a person without kneepadding their policy.  People here are often too emotional to separate the two.

Bill Clinton was fiscally responsible when he had a GOP Congress to deal with.  Clinton also greatly benefited from ther Dot Com craze along with all the money the govt got from the M&A boom.

Obama is the opposite of Clinton in that regard.

The problem is people mistake an ability to speak with brilliance.Obama speaks well.I dont think Obama has an empathetic bone in his body.In fact I think he is one of the coldest people on earth.I think he is angry and has a chip on his shoulder.

Now as far as 240 saying he is great at passing legislation.Thats actually amusing. The guy has majorities in both houses that havent been seen in years.Im amazed it is so hard for him to pass stuff. It shows what a pathetic leader he really is.If Clinton had fillabuster proof majorities think it would have been as hard for him to get shit passed. Not me.

However,Obama is brilliant at one thing. He has a goal of the total destruction of the private sector,ESPECIALLY the private sector that isnt unionised, and he is suceeding.Everyday more and more stuff gets passed that destroys the private sector, destroys liberty and takes away freedom. No scimmers on the gulf because Obama ONLY cares about unions. The auto takeover is to save union jobs.Obama wants chaos, destruction, high UE,and a takeover by the government of as much of the private sector as possible. So 240 is right,he is brilliant. But his brilliance is the destruction of America.

Idiot Barack Øbama Just Makes Up History of Statue of Liberty
A Time For Choosing ^ | Gary Jackson

Posted on Thursday, June 16, 2011 7:23:41

This is simply incredible. In order to make some nonsensical point about immigration, Obama just makes up the history of the Statue of Liberty, what it symbolizes, and how it came to be.

Of course, the corrupt media couldn’t be bothered to mention this to the public at large now, or at the time it happened. They are too busy getting their asses handed to them after erroneously claiming Sarah Palin was wrong about Paul Revere.

View video:

There will be no one able to speak up for Obama, as there is no truth to what he’s saying.

While it’s fun to point out what a total idiot Obama is, the real story here is the corrupt media and it’s bias. Even after many scholars pointed out Sarah Palin was right about Paul Revere, you still have a corrupt media pushing the meme she’s was wrong. As for Obama, if stupidity like this is never published by them, then as far as the blood libel media is concerned, it never happened! And these people wonder why no one takes them seriously any more!

A little history on the Statue:

The story of the Statue of Liberty is a story of change. The people of France gave the Statue to the people of the United States over one hundred years ago in recognition of a friendship established during the American Revolution. Over the years, the meanings of the Statue have grown until she has become an international icon of freedom and liberty, the most recognizable symbol of democracy in the world.

The idea of the Statue originated around 1865 with Edouard de Laboulaye who saw the United States as a country that had proved that democracy was a viable type of government- after all they had just survived a Civil War and abolished slavery. De Laboulaye also saw the gift as a way to reflect his wish for a democracy in France. Artist Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, who was known for large-scale work, was commissioned to design this sculpture. Nothing happened for some time, but finally (in 1874) Bartholdi came to the United States to look for a location for his monument. He saw Bedloe’s Island from his ship as he sailed into the New York Harbor, and realized it would be a perfect location – since here his statue would always have an audience.

“Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World“, which is the full title of Bartholdi’s work was fashioned in the style of Greco-Roman art. Bartholdi used a technique called repousse to create her copper skin – hammering out each piece of copper until it was only 3/32 of an inch thick. Bartholdi recruited French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel to build a skeleton for his statue. Eiffel designed a massive iron pylon and secondary skeletal framework which allows the Statue’s copper skin to move independently- yet stand upright. This flexibility is needed to allow the Statue to sway in the sometimes violent harbor winds.

Since the Statue was a joint effort between America and France, it was agreed that the American people were to build the pedestal, and the French people were responsible for the Statue and assembly. In France, public fees, various forms of entertainment and items with the Statue on it were ways to raise money. This was also tried in the United States- but with limited results. Joseph Pulitzer stepped in and was able to raise the remaining money for the pedestal using his newspaper “The World“.

The Statue was completed in France in July of 1884, then disassembled and shipped to the United States. She arrived in NY In June 1885. Once the pedestal was finished, the statue was re-assembled in four months. On October 28, 1886 the dedication of the Statue of Liberty took place in front of thousands of spectators.

Not yet seen as an international, much less national symbol, the Statue saw many physical changes and many administrative changes. She was cared for by the Lighthouse Board, the War Department, and finally the National Park Service after 1933 (although she had already been declared a National Monument in 1924). Bedloe’s Island was renamed Liberty Island in 1956 in honor of its most famous resident and in 1965 President Lyndon B Johnson added Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty National Monument. In May of 1982, in anticipation of the Statue’s 100th birthday a restoration project was initiated. At the start of the Statue’s restoration, the United Nations in 1984 designated the Statue of Liberty as a World Heritage Site. The newly restored Statue opened to the public on July 5, 1986 during Liberty Weekend, which celebrated her centennial.

The tragedy of September 11, 2001 resulted in the closure of Liberty Island. The island re-opened after 100 days, however the Statue remained closed until August 3, 2004 when the pedestal level was opened for visitation. On July 4, 2009, the Crown of the Statue of Liberty was reopened to the public. Visitors must make a reservation to climb to the top of the Pedestal or to the Statue’s Crown.
