He was married once I understand but maybe turned out to be a fag later not sure a strange dude but smart.all drugs :D
He was a pioneer of ridiculous ''posing trunks''Good post, wonder if anyone here ever went to his gym?
He was married once I understand but maybe turned out to be a fag later not sure a strange dude but smart. She was a hot lil blond that was young enough to be his daughter so Im a fan :D
His books are fucking great and i loved what he first said to Arnold!! "You are a FAT FUCK" :D 8)The dude was asshole best I understand I admire that ;D
The man was brilliant and way ahead of his time. He only came off as an asshole to people who asked him dumb ass questions who just wanted to argue with him. Vince was more about teaching than arguing with brick wall dumbasses.Good point.
He actually trained da man hisself Mr. Clint EastwoodAlot of actors went there he was famous for getting them in shape quicky for movie roles.
Was the guy a quack or smart? He was a proponent of the low carb/high fat diet and trained alot of guys back in the day including Arnold and Larry Scott.how's his son guy doing? anyone know.

I liked that pic of his diagram of a "V" dip bar...finding one like back in the day is next to impossible...I forgot about that Parker, yes the wide end for dips the narrow end for triceps.

Believe Gironda was married 4 or 5 times. Never heard that he drank himself to death. Did have a hard time recovering from an injury after one of his special designed chinning devices broke, when he was using it. Maybe that lead to extra heavy drink, don't know. Think he shattered his leg pretty bad. He did die broke and his former gym is now a parking lot on Ventura Blvd.Great post did you ever train there? I bought a couple of his old courses and you are correct the hand positions are very important to target exactly the muscle group in different areas.
Gironda put major use to the "V" dipping bar (had the knuckles forward or facing inward for extra stretch and influence on the pecs...try it some time and you will know what I mean) and the Scott curling bench (which was really Gironda design). Also the Roman chair and Sissy squats for legs. Gironda had dozens of different ways of preforming regular exercise. Including the position of the grip/fingers/wrist/elbows, etc. (even now days the elbow position is important in BB'ing). And all the special ways to do chins. Put heavy attention to 8X8's, 10X10's, tri sets, quad sets, etc. Ahead of his time with regards to advance training.
Did stunt work and was an expert horseman, like his father was in the movies. Use to be a lot of riding stables along the LA river in North Hollywood back in the day. Was a cool dude and all that but very moody I have been told. Most genius might be considered half mad anyway.
This is a drawing for chest dips, I think the drawing was Vince's.Good stuff chin on chest for chest, head up for triceps.

Mr Nobody: Never worked out at Vince's. My two uncles worked at the Paramount lot (Van Ness & a block up from Melrose) and I stayed with them for 3 or 4 summers during school break. They knew a lot of the old veteran BB'ers around Santa Monica, Hollywood and the Valley. They trained at Vince's on occasion, Golds, Worlds, etc. I'm 38 now so it was around '87, '88 etc that I lived in Hollywood (just above the Whiskey and than near the Bodhi Tree on Melrose) That training information I got from the uncles and their BB'ing bud's was priceless. .Something you could never get from any book or video.Great information. Yea his gym equipment I have seen pictures of very few machines or pulleys but did the trick. I have seen Bill in the old motorcycle movies being fond of motorcycles he was one of my favorite actors had some impressive arms is he still alive?
First impression my uncles got about Gironda was one moody little wop (their words) who could change moods day by day (or hour to hour) But if he liked you, and got to know you, was an OK guy (their words again). Most of his equipment was home made or he had a fab shop make it up for him. One of a kind exercise equipment never to be seen again today. Robert Blake and Bill Smith use to be there a lot I had been told. Along with some other movie and writer types. Gironda lived up stairs at that time I believe. Gironda was indeed a grand master of BB'ing than and to a certain degree, now.
Anyone know anything about Bill or William Smith. Heard he was quite the strongman back in the day. But had a drinking problem like Gironda.
The guy to the right reminds me of the "son, I am disappoint" dude. That's not Simon Cowell on the juice.

All started by Vince plus many more training principles, machines, and nutritional practices.
Bench Neck presses as well. I bought some of his courses once very interesting.
I think maybe take a more narrow grip would not stress the shoulders as much.
I did those for a while - as Vince & Larry Scott have described.
It's the only flat bench pressing movement I ever "felt" working the chest.
They were effective for me, but put a lot of stress on my shoulders due to my poor flexibility.
I think maybe take a more narrow grip would not stress the shoulders as much.yes, and also i do them wider to,love them really swells pecs and tie in to delt gets great fullness.guy showed me them long time ago.thought he was nuts till i did them.
yes,and also i do them wider to,love them really swells pecs and tie in to delt gets great fullness.guy showed me them long time ago.thought he was nuts till i did them.Thats what I'm saying some of his stuff seemed crazy but worked. Just a different kind of angle or some strange excercise.

\Yea the dude was all about strict form. Yea Dorian used declines alot worked for him.
I forgot about those bro..thanks!!
Also, try doing declines to the neck/throat area ala Gironda.
Guys who bounce 405 off their diaphrams (sp) can usually use around 185-205 -12 reps.....really works the pecs and not the ego.
