Saw an advertisement for this show on the History Channel.  Looks right up bench's alley.

I am shooting clays tomorrow (for the 2nd time)...any tips bench, Migs or Princess?

Plus, why doesn't someone invent something for a semi-automatic shotgun so you can load the bottom shell w/o any chance of hurting your thumb?  Get on it bench >:(

i only shoot over/unders when it comes to shotguns......i hate auto's....

the biggest tips i can give are as followed...

1)hold your head straight on the gun....dont tilt it to the side....you dont walk down the street with head tilted, so dont shoot a gun that way..

2)use your trigger hand to grip the shotgun hard....use the forearm hand grip very, very lightly..it dramaticly improves your swing..

3)learn to shoot with both eyes open

4)make sure your feet are positioned so that you unwind for a shot...neverwind up to a shot...

5)pick your targets wisely...always shoot the one going away fisrt....dont let them get to far..

6)make sure you are using the right load for your game....skeet=9shot, trap=7shot, sporting clays i just use 8shot...

7)use the right choke in the gun.....

8)THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING!!!.....make sure the comb height is right for you....you cant hit what you cant see...

These are great, thank you!  I just printed them off.

A couple questions...

1) Do you shoot w/both eyes open during competition?

2) Can you please tell me what you mean by this in more detail?  "make sure your feet are positioned so that you unwind for a shot...neverwind up to a shot..."   Does this mean if I'm right handed to have my right foot back a bit?

3) What is the "comb height?"

This tip:

"pick your targets wisely...always shoot the one going away fisrt....dont let them get to far.."

..a guy who I will be shooting w/on a team in a week or so and I were talking about this today ...thanks so much bench!  Great tips!!  Any others come to mind, please post them up. :)

I also dislike autos judging from the ONe I shot...esp. for loading.  Plan to try out some diff. over/unders tomorrow to see which one I like

A couple questions...

1) Do you shoot w/both eyes open during competition? everygun, everytime...alway both eyes open

2) Can you please tell me what you mean by this in more detail?  "make sure your feet are positioned so that you unwind for a shot...neverwind up to a shot..."   Does this mean if I'm right handed to have my left foot back a bit?never twist your body to make a shot....its better to start with your body twisted, and untwist it as you are chasing the target for your shot...if you twist you start to flinch and miss..

3) What is the "comb height?" its where your face meets the gun...take the gun to the bathroom...put the gun to your shoulder, and put your face on the gun...if you cant see your eye you need to raise your face...all of my guns are adjustable...but in a pinch you can just tape on some cardboard from a clay box to raise the comb height...

OK...had fun shooting!  Thanks bench for all the tips!

When he pulled one I got it almost every time...but when he pulled 2 I usually missed the 2nd one.  This seemed harder than when we went to the sporting clays place (this was at a guy's house).

bench, I am left eye dominant and right handed and tried to keep my eyes open once and missed everything...maybe if I end up shooting a lot more I will try for the both eyes open thing but I seem better at closing one.

We also shot pistols...I seem to be better at this...and shot an A K- ..fun! :D
