Title: 2010 Olympia - Questions for Bob Chick.
Post by: Howard on September 02, 2010, 06:33:21 PM
Bob, if you were the head , grand poobah of Mt Olympus , would you change the qualification standard?
Try to qualify more guys, less guys or leave it as is?

2. How would you score the night show finals in the Olympia?

I think the posing round should be scored, but only minimally. Obviously shouldn't put a guy with a 5th place physique up to 2-3rd. I used to hate seeing Ronnie win the posing round with the shittiest routine on the planet.

In an ideal BB world, IMO....We would have 12 shows per year with each winner getting to compete in the Mr. Olympia...

I have no issue with the way the night show is scored now

Bob??

I'm the one who submitted to get the posing routine NOT scored, so I guess that would suffice for my answer...

I like the winner of the 12 yr round show format, good idea Bob.

Next question : Would you use Vince Basille as Olympia head judge or just have him MC /host the Olympia? 8)

Well if they have any funerals in Vegas on Olympia weekend he is your man to shoot the pics. ;D
I actually like ol' Vince B, but I don't mind busting his balls on get big.

Ok fun Olympia questions?
1. What was the all time worst location and venue for the Olympia? I would say the hockey rink in Finland.
2. What did you think of the "challenge pose" round they tried?

So then would that mean that if someone won a show they wouldn't be allowed to compete again until the Mr O?  Otherwise if a competitor won say 6 shows, then another won 3 and another 3 you would only have 3 Mr O competitors.

No...you would just go to the 2nd place finisher, or the first non qualifying position

Comment : Those extra stage acts are a real crap shoot at the Arnold and Olympia.
Some yrs it would be better if they had Ben Wieder give a seminar on Napoleon instead  :o
Question: What was the best and worst stage acts ever on the Olympia stage?
I am not 100 % if it was the Olympia but I remember seeing some performing  dogs at one pro show?????
Oh, the "Olympia singers" from the late 80's were really 'something'  :'(

Bob got promoted to Rear Admiral and will be wearing assless chaps and leather vest.
Unlike Bob, I have keen sense of fashion and often wear pee stained shorts when out at events.

LOL, I forgot about that fiasco.
Maybe they could get ol' Buzz Aldrin to do his Dancing with the stars routine as guest post this yr?

This one show in La had former masters champ , Errol Brousard roller blade around the stage and hit plastic hockey pucks out to the crowd.

Not really Olympia questions, but...

1. Make the pros compete more often throughout the year. Maybe a 3 contest minimum?
2. Make the pros confirm their availability for a show at least 6 weeks out. No more jumping in or pulling out at the last minute which creates a lot of uncertainty and makes life difficult for the promoter.

They don't even post the scores...nothing is going to change.
I say give up and enjoy the show for what it is

The Village People was a miscalculated mistake by Wayne - and probably one of the low points of the Olympia.   Not many people liked it at all, and I remember backstage - the group irked that they wouldnt be let back out there to do another song.

I enjoy the Olympia as it is right now, although I liked it more when, during the evening rounds, the bodybuilders get to use props.  Who can't forget Ronnie coming down the aisle in the Moses costume.

Was it the 2001 Olympia where King did his space helemt robot routine?
That scene alone should be the basis to ban all props from a BB stage.
Ronnie as Moses 'eh.
How about Lee Priest dressed as an Oompa Loompa posing to the Willy Wonka movie sound track?

I don't have a problem with those guys putting a little entertainment than just posing. as long as it doesn't get out of hand, I'm fine with it. I miss Vince Taylor. he was the best entertainner on stage In my Opinion

Agreed...which is why it was abolished.  Nothing remotely good about prop use. We have enough issues to contend with, certainly dont need more.

Chick, in your opinion when do you think was the best era of posing? I would say 80's early 90's. Back in the Labrada, Haney era.

Was it DeMilia who organized for the Kenny Jones / Dayana Cadeau sleazy posing in the NOC one year, where they got a little kid to come on stage during Jones' posing routine as a stab at Michael Jackson? DC was dressed as a stripper :-X

That was in very poor taste and got booed big time as well.

The '04 NOC was the worst "entertainment" at any bodybuilding show ever.  Even worse than the Village People.  It was equivalent to a grade school play with a cast of Denise Masino, Dayana Cadeau, Kenny Jones, Rodney St. Cloud, & Wayne D's son.  Dayana did most of the talking with English as her second language.  Ron still has the photos in the picture section....no words needed from there.  Since that was Wayne's last show, I think he wanted to embarrass the IFBB with this little sketch.

posing rd could have at least stayed 10% of total score.  no wonder no one practices posing anymore.  thank good kai still thinks  you get credit for posing n it seems promoters are rewarding him for it.  has to be the most demanded guest poser outside of jay.  whole show full of branch warrens.  ::)

imagine promoting a show, fronting air, hotel, and meals for a guy just hitting some standard poses a 3 yr old could do in audience and your paying customers go into a coma.

asia is more entertaining as a guest poser.  thanks shawn.

one hand flip will ill.

Bob, If Kai wins will he get his winnnings in grapefruit instead of cash?  Also will the IFBB be proud to have a grapefruit fucker as it's face of the franchise? I mean if he wins it would be a shameful day, instead of saying I'm going to Disneyland will he say I'm going to the grapefruit orchid?

As the rep for the sport should you not have a code of conduct similar to other professional organizations? that says if you fuck a grapefruit you get a suspension?  Speak on this bobby   :-X
