Title: Bikini Division defended by a competitor's boyfriend
Post by: Howard on October 26, 2010, 10:00:59 AM
A guy I barely know heard me making jokes about the bikini division girls in the gym. I said some silly crack about how they might as well do cardio by pole dancing at this point. He came over and told me, he found out I was a judge and his girlfriend just competed in the bikini division at the recent NPC Nationals in Atlanta.

I told him I was joking and just pissed that the NPC was adding a lot of NON bodybuilding stuff to their contests. He calmed down and told me that she worked as hard as any bodybuilder and I shouldn't be so quick to judge , etc . Then he actually said ; " Look man, that working the pole can be a tough workout. My girl did that for her cardio  and she looked great at the nationals."  ::) ;)

What else can I say....

Ha - but have you ever tried to go up a pole, or work on one.  It is much harder than it looks.   At the 2009 L.A. Fitness Expo (Ironman contest), they had a pole there, and we tried it out.  Jeez - that is a workout.  You give the girls more respect once you realize it isn't easy.

Come on Howard - try it once - then report back here on how 'easy' it is.

The "sport" of pole dancing is kinda like reinventing gymnastics.

That is a total fallacy. Are you going to tell me this girl worked as hard as Branch for his 3rd place olympia finish of even the last place guy at Nationals?

This girl can't even state what she changed. Im sure its very hard to "bring up your weight and take your muscle tone down". A lot of arrogance on these girls too   >:(

these bikini pigs are walking around with their heads a little too high these days, because of the fantasy land they are fostering over at RX muscle........where EVERY female competitor is great, and every female works hard, and  EVER female is beyond criticism

bikini is a joke, but you not allowed to state that over there.........the bikini pigds over there are ACTUALLY convinced they are athletes

and they use bodybuilding terms to describe their condition.......lol.,,,,its liek, you have 15% bodyfat, your neither "full" nor "spilled over" your just fucking FAT

btw, i looked at the title of this thread and it said "competitor's boyfriend"

what a crock of shit

none of those headcases that do "Figure/Bikini" shows (at the NPC shows) can find a man who hates themselves that much that they would be relegated to having to put up with the obsessive compulsive girls who compete

it's way easier to date a regular hot chick

Weights, pole, rocks in a net over a pulleylike in Rocky V.....the only thing that matters is what anyone LOOKS like on stage....what they do to achieve it is irrelevant

It is just offensive when they talk about how hard they words to "lose muscle tone and gain weight" (aka getting fatter). Listening to stuff like that makes my head hurt. It insults my intelligence.

Hey I will LOOK, even have a dirty thought or two..  But take it seriously?  No. train as hard as bodybuilders?- not even CLOSE. I am a so so masters competitor at the National level and I KILLEd myself this past year to get a third at the Masters and 4th at the NA's- both 0ver 50 superheavies-  squats with 7 plates, dips to positive and negative failure with obscene weights hanging, same with Chins, etc, and HITT cardio as hard as I could manage-- just to get a so so placing and those werent even OPEN divisions.  Some female BBs might match that (with lesser weights of course), but certainly no bikini competitor ever trains at that level.  So Enjoy the eye cand, just dont try to promote them as "athletes"-  a reasonable compromise?? I think so.

not to be a dick...but who cares. a "pro card" doesn't really mean too much to ANYONE....including people in the industry. Whether it be bodybuilding, figure, or "bikini"....unless you are consistent and well represented...youre just another gym rat with piece of cardboard in your wallet.

Off the street?   In any gym.

how many people are in the NPC?  double that number for their mothers, and that's how many people have an interest in competition bodybuilding.

i think that is the point howard is making.

the respondents in this thread are suggesting that howard doesnt rate working out using a pole.

i didnt read it like that at all. what i read was that howard was implying that someone who was a pole dancer could enter an event and place or win this stuff.

is this the objective of the class?- what exactly is it?, - what is stopping some fit bod who diets some and rollerblades around a park on weekends from stepping on stage and winning?- doesnt that make it a laughing stock?

There are not trying to make it mainstream, they are trying to make money and I certainly don't blame them for that at all. There was a time when being an IFBB pro meant that you were in a certain "league" so to speak, you were set apart from the rest as to how you look. Now, there are thousands of untrained people who look like lots of these girls and soon to be guys that will now be able to call themselves IFBB pros.

I think the main difference is at least these strippers WORK, they may dance on a pole but at least they WORK..while these 'pro bodybuilders' collect money from their sponsors, schmoes or juice sales...

imo, pro bodybuilders should get jobs and stop acting like princesses.
