A guy I barely know heard me making jokes about the bikini division girls in the gym. I said some silly crack about how they might as well do cardio by pole dancing at this point. He came over and told me, he found out I was a judge and his girlfriend just competed in the bikini division at the recent NPC Nationals in Atlanta.

I told him I was joking and just pissed that the NPC was adding a lot of NON bodybuilding stuff to their contests. He calmed down and told me that she worked as hard as any bodybuilder and I shouldn't be so quick to judge , etc . Then he actually said ; " Look man, that working the pole can be a tough workout. My girl did that for her cardio and she looked great at the nationals."

What else can I say....

Ha - but have you ever tried to go up a pole, or work on one. It is much harder than it looks. At the 2009 L.A. Fitness Expo (Ironman contest), they had a pole there, and we tried it out. Jeez - that is a workout. You give the girls more respect once you realize it isn't easy.

Come on Howard - try it once - then report back here on how 'easy' it is.

The "sport" of pole dancing is kinda like reinventing gymnastics.

That is a total fallacy. Are you going to tell me this girl worked as hard as Branch for his 3rd place olympia finish of even the last place guy at Nationals?

This girl can't even state what she changed. Im sure its very hard to "bring up your weight and take your muscle tone down". A lot of arrogance on these girls too

Weights, pole, rocks in a net over a pulleylike in Rocky V.....the only thing that matters is what anyone LOOKS like on stage....what they do to achieve it is irrelevant

It is just offensive when they talk about how hard they words to "lose muscle tone and gain weight" (aka getting fatter). Listening to stuff like that makes my head hurt. It insults my intelligence.
