All the way big dude...
-
could those guys have gotten in better condition if they wanted to? like could you have gotten shreaded glutes back then ?
or is that more of a thing that came along with HGH and the more extreme drug cycles?
or was it ALWAYS possible to get shreaded glutes, but the judging criteria didnt call for such extreme condition back then?
-
I remember watching this "live"on I believe ABC's Wide World of Sports. As for conditioning, they were in very good shape and not only for "their time". I doubt "shredded" glutes would have been a priority as these were men. They chased women, ate, drank and had lives outside of the gym. Flashing their butt on stage most likely never entered their minds. "Shredded" glutes is faggoty. It's disgusting and wearing a thong is queer-bait and for the retarded.
Men, even men on steroids, don't wear thongs. If you're wearing a thong, you're tolling for schmoes. And that means you're not a real man.
Hope this helps. ;D

yeh, i get it....
but if your gonna go with the whole "shreaded glutes is f@ggotry" argument...........it pretty laughable
shreaded glutes is the point where it gets gay huh....................n ot the part about watching muscle men "pump up" and "oil up", and dance around stage flexing for an audience primarily composed of men wearing NOTHING but shiny bedazzled bikini trunks................but shreaded glutes is where it gets gay ::) ::)
furthermore you buy magazines and are a member fo message boards dedicated to this "sport" where men get into shiny thongs, "oil up" and dance and glex for you on stage...............LOL.........but shreaded glutes is where it finally get gay ::) ::)
i hope you now realize what a horrendous argument that was............when i say shreaded glutes, im just talking about a standard of conditioning........the glutes are the last place on the body that fat stores deplete from..........
the guys in the 70s had a different standard of condition then later guys did, obviously.............ha ving abs was enough back then..........to me personally, arnold looks fat there and i like the fact that the standards of leanness have gotten higher
but my original question was about the possibility of dieting to todays standards back then........was it possible?..........or only now with todays drugs possible?
-
I'm not sure if it was possible but the shredded glutes thing didn't start happening until the mid '80's. No one even tried to get shredded glutes in the '70's. Frank Zane took the level of conditioning up several levels when he was winning the Olympia in the late '70's. When Arnold and Sergio were winning the Olympia, it was more about size and shape with good definition. I'm sure the drug use increased in the '80's compared to the '70's but leg training and development was also a higher priority in the '80's than it was previously.

that fact that the guys were not as big back them (as guys today that start their diet at 300lbs.)
and maybe didnt have the diet knowledge to p[reserve as much mass............and didnt have some of the protein-sparing drugs like growth to diet with
the probably would feel too small if they dieted to the point of shreaded glutes.........arnold, at that level of conditioning would probably be competing at around 200lbs, which would feel "stringy"
liek you said, the standards called for mass and shape, so the sick condition wasnt warrented, it would only make the competitor look small

going straight for the glutes again kid... why am I not suprised.
This place gets gayer every time I log in...
time to call it quit before they start eating tha poo poo

First, I have not competed in over thirty years and the only magazine I have bought in at least ten years has been the
recent Robert Kennedy issue called "Legends". Why? Because I have zero desire to look at what amounts to over doped
queer bait in dental floss thongs, humping to cRap "music" to the thunderous applause of a herd of
testosterone deficient size queens. Arnold, Reeves, Draper, Park, et al, did not "dance" to anything.
Instead they moved gracefully from pose to pose with a dignity that will forever elude the gay billboards of today's posing dais.
If you took the time to look at most of the truly great physique champions routines, they displayed their physiques with dignity
and quite often grace. Style. The Oak for one never appeared as though he were some wayward gay clown (e.g., Kai Greene).
His facial expression was always one of calm supremacy, not like he was constipated vis a vie Ronnie Coleslaw taking a dump and disguising it as a "most muscular" pose.
Quite often these men would pay homage to Greek, Roman or Renaissance statuary. Poses depicting the Farnese Hercules or Michelangelo's David come immediately to mind. Compare their presentations to retards like the aforementioned Kai Greene or others of his kind and you will surely see the folly of your words. There is nothing queer about presenting your physique in a classical and tasteful manner such as what the Oak did.
The display of a genuinely masculine physique, done absent of homoerotic undertones can be a work of art. For proof I encourage you to look to the aforementioned statuary and not the bloated, crappy, comic book inspired pieces of shit like those in today's magazines nor in that faggy homo comic book crap that BayGm recently put up here in one of the threads. Disgusting does not begin to describe such filth.
It is as base as can be and reflects the state of mind amongst those that think with their genitals instead of being inspired by their hearts, minds and yes, perhaps their souls.
As to whether or not the bodybuilders of the 70s could have achieved the level of "conditioning" so prevalent among todays bodydopers,
I would say I suppose so, but no one I have ever known desired to look like a zit covered anatomy chart. Look, I'm not here to do anything other than state my thoughts on what was and what is now and the difference between what is right and wrong in bodybuilding. Some will agree with me and some will not. I tend to think I am correct. Because I am. Take care.

Rolf the aspect ratio in that vid is all fucked up. He look way wider than he should. He must of took tips from alex on that one.
It amazes how after all these years vid's arise before he was super famous with him being 20-30 pounds heavier than the 75 O. ::)

gaspari is known for introducing the shredded conditioning and being the 1st to hike up the trunks to reveal a ripped posterior, he considered it a bodypart, and treated it equally
he attributed his glute development and conditioning to diet obviously, and to his intense leg training, things like lots of squats, reverse lunges on the smith machine, and hamstring work
now, gaspari hiked up the trunks to show striated glutes, he didnt wear a thong, didnt do a chipendale act. big differencce from the current scene, whats up with the little sequined glittery thongs..

Many had christmas tree lower backs in the 70's, which are nowadays completely extinct. Where the conditioning is seems to change place with different drugs. ??? I don't know. ;D

not an Arnie fan, heh?

I remember watching that, I believe Arnold won, Oliva second, and Dave Draper third. Wide World of Sports would show a contest from time to time and they were backstage, I think Dennis Tinnerino thought he would come in third and threw a fit backstage.
Very little was known about bodybuilders in those days...
-
1974. the upper body couldn 't be leaner, but the glutes are still holding fat.
-
Great clip! But that's all the footage available? ??? :(

I saw it at age 12 live on ABC's Wide World of Sports and thought bodybuilding was awesome ever since.
Sadly , moving away fromthe ideal judging standards , good promotion and EXTREME drug use changed the sport from its' origins.
Proper fitting oosing trunks and classic posing along with a dramatic posedown are what the sport is all about, in my opinion.
That is what I am enthused about and will continue to be psyched about.

Possibly...Paul Grant from Wales.

Yes. The Mr. World took place about a week before the Mr. Olympia.

Arnold looked like he was holding a vacuum pose during that whole clip. That should be mandatory today.

I've seen guys with ripped glutes who didn't use anything they didn't have access to back then. Most of them were on relatively low dosages though.
I'd say that it's actually due to the size requirements for the pro's that it's practically impossible for them to be shredded without going to the extreme. It's hard to be that heavy, shredded, but also have full muscles.

I think Arnold had the sickest response to dbol in the history of bodybuilding. amazing how fast his body would change from lanky 200 pounds in the offseason.

LMAO what a small dick Arnold had.
