Title: The best place to live in America?
Post by: James28 on November 13, 2010, 10:03:40 AM
A colleague and his American wife is moving to America. She's originally from Delaware (really, who's from Delaware?) but they fancy something else. Now, they didn't ask for my advice, but I was wondering, if my advice was asked, where would be the best place to live in America? Try and keep your bias out of this. I've been to most of the big US cities and it's not pleasant places to live.

Personally, I'd probably move to Denver or somewhere in New England. I like it leafy, quiet and white.

When I have money and IF I decide to stay in the states vs. going back to Deustchland, this is where I'm headed...

Lived in Amherst, MA for 8 years. Used to go up to VT, NH, and ME fairly often. New England is absolutely beautiful in October, but I got tired of those hot ass summers and long, brutal winters. I personally love the Seattle area where I'm living right now, aside from the dreariness that can be pervasive at times. When it is nice here though, it's the best weather in the world. And there's more sun than people think. Green with no humidity. Smart, cool, educated people. And the Pacific Northwest is absolutely one of the most beautiful places on earth, no exageration... :D

Hell no Pentagon would admit that Russians managed to get right front of LA and launch a missile!

It's like couple of years ago when Russians flew almost over one British town with strategic bomber... it's too embarrassing to admit for the target country that their defense is incapable to detect possible enemies.

Sounds perfect. Where does blacks like to congregate? Apart from the big cities of course?

its tough these days................one of the most profound socio-cultural happenings in recent memory , that has been totally ignored by the mainstream media and not addressed

is the recent large scale relocation of low income minorities on welfare from the federal government ,from big cities (whose crime rate and social services are stretched to the limit).......................t o previously all white middle class , lower-middle class suburbs and towns

now these towns are experiencing big city crime, murders, gangs, drug dealing.,......that they NEVER would have though possible

you hear alot about gentrification in americas big cities........and how neighborhoods property values are going up and becoming nicer...well the people who were there before, didnt disappear..........they were relocated to small towns

now instead of black crime beig centralized in big cities...........it everywhere now

so to answer your original question.,...........you would probably have to go to a very wealthy white area where they arent moving blacks in, or a very rural area

Colorado is (was) nice but Denver sucks.

Utah is great.  Very organized institutions and geared toward the middle class.  Hospitals
are great and so are outdoor activities(worlds best skiing).

Austin, TX is great too.  Lots of high quality jobs and good people.  It's almost recession proof.

They're moving from London, England. He is an IT wizard (he really is good at what he does, I must admit) and she's a mid-wife, hell bent on being a house wife. They love hiking and mountain biking. I don't think California/West would suit them, they're definitely Mid-West/East Coast type people. I'll mention Utah to him tomorrow.

London is mainly city life , high priced , and crowded .. so I'm thinking with him being an IT guy .. Silicon Valley .. it's expensive there too I think , so it won't be a shock .. there's a few California guys here that will prolly know that area or within commuting to it anyhow

What about weather ? if I could start all over I'd be in more comfortable climate year round .. mid west and nothern east coast can have horrible winters .. Utah does aswell
