G.. what's you take on tonights fight? I'll go on a limb and say Martinez by KO.
U give Manny credit for beating Cotto. I think Cotto was done like all the other fighters he fought in the last 2 yrs. I think Cloty is th only one who had a chance if he had the heart and came to fight hat night
-
This will be a great fight. Paul will be Paul...lots of shots, rhythm, punching, punching and more punching.
Martinez will move, shot from angles, counter off longer williams and land the nicer sound blows.
This has fight of the year written all over it.
I want to see a trilogy from these guys so Martinez needs to get the nod here. Either way this will be a great boxing night.
-
G.. what's you take on tonights fight? I'll go on a limb and say Martinez by KO.
martinez in split, will be more active this fight. as other poster wrote...part III would be nice.

clotty was all def as margo was slow as a snail. then roach and arum pit him against hatton n DLH after FMW exposed them. so according to this...manny will fight old as mosley after FMW just exposed him. yep...manny PFP best. ::)
-
I think Mosley has something left, Noone looks good against Floyd. He'll be the fastest fighter since Marquez, to whom i think he lost both fights. I hope the rest of the boxing public starts calling out Manny for not taking tough fights. Wanna call yourself the best, stop fighting the slowest guy you can find so you look that much fatser and fight someoen who's fought atleast once in 2 yrs

Rd1 martinez

DAMN.
rd 1 - Williams
fight - Martinez
Worst thing Martinez couldv'e done if he had any hopes of fighting Manny. Williams might have move up on the Manny list though
-
manny or fmw at a catch weight ::)
yeah...like either will sign the contract.
next?
-

Beautiful, no fight of the year but Ko of the year for sure.

I agree, after this they won't fight him but if I was Manny I wouldn't do it either

fight - Martinez

manny n fmw dont have MW punching power. williams would still kill them.
this fight was something like the hearns vs barkley fight.
[/b]
-
Beautiful, no fight of the year but Ko of the year for sure.
Hell yeah. Against a guy with a GRANITE chin also. nobody messing with sergio now man. NOBODY..and that is the sad part. Nobody other than paul will fight this guy again imo. NOBODY.
-
Like corales v Moralles all over again. I expected Martinex to win but not that quick or devastatingly
-
this fight was actually good for boxing imo. Williams is by no means a scrub and he just got ko'd. Goes to show you when two high level guys get it on this can happen. Only take one slip up at this level and you go to sleep.
Floyd does this same thing to pacman from a wicked counter. Trust me. They just collecting pay checks right now. Much credit to paul and sergio for going head to head in their prime.
-
middle weight division is a mixed bag after williams. it's either a super mw coming down or martinez fighting at 154 which the money guys wont touch him.
MWs
Sebastian Sylvester
Fernando Guerrero
Sebastian Zbik
could see williams vs martinez III by end of next yr...given how it ended....just one of those "i didnt see it coming" punches.
-
[/b]
I think they'll both beat Williams in a close 12rd decision. They're both quick enough to take advantage of his length (punches takes longer to get there) and activity rate (easy to counterpunch). FMW traditionally have an easier time against bigger fighters. They'd both have a very hard time with Martinez because of his speed and athlethicism

williams/sergio III is the only fight out there. Their needs to be a rubber match and everybody would watch it imo.

FMW is the counter puncher, would probably catch manny coming in like he did hatton.

Nah ,Martinez wins again
-
could see williams vs martinez III by end of next yr
I doubt it, can't see Williams beating him and i think he knows it at this point
-

fmw is possible since williams isnt a big knockout guy...but fmw will take cotto, clotty or a broke down marg.
-

Nah ,Manny is not Hatton or Williams totally different style ,I have FMW by a close decision.
-

Man floyd would counter manny to death, but I'm not going to spoil it for everybody on the "train"
from what I know about fighting.....it would be a compete disaster. Manny would get destroyed and those hating floyd would have no choice but to recognize his fighting skills. The guy is simply insane in there.
I used to spar with a guy at middle weight who mastered floyd style...all I can tell you is it is a freaking puzzle and you have 12 rounds to figure it out. Meanwhile you are losing rounds figuring it out.
-
....it would be a compete disaster. Manny would get destroyed
I disagree
-
Nah ,Martinez wins again
agreed. faster than williams and doesnt loop punches...just shoots everything down the pipe.
he tagged williams with the cleaner shots in the first fight too. it wont change in III.
williams will probably fight safer.
-
Nah ,Martinez wins again
he got hit with a blind overhand(martinez wasn't even looking) ...I do those all the time the same way... occasionally they land...most of the time they don't.
it happens. I can easily see paul staying outside boxing a 12 rd UD staying discipline. There was a lot going on in their tonight imo. When you fight there are two fights you fight...vs yourself and vs your opponent. Paul was waaaaay to comfortable imo and got caught. I've been there.
-
Nah ,Manny is not Hatton or Williams totally different style ,I have FMW by a close decision.
i didnt necessarily say knockout but he will counter the hell out of manny.
-
paul staying outside boxing a 12 rd UD staying discipline.
That's not Paul Williams.
-
I disagree
This is why these guys need to get in on man. If they don't fight in 2011. man.
From what i'm hearing in the crowd. Pacman vs mosley is about done. They might bring in 2011 from what i'm hearing.
-
FMW is the counter puncher, would probably catch manny coming in like he did hatton.
Absofnlutely. No way i see Manny beating Floyd, If Margarito had a little more speed Amnny would've bn in trouble. tremendous heart on Marg btw, More figthers should hv his heart.

I agree ,
Pacquiao vs Mosley = easy win for Pacquiao

That's not Paul Williams.
neither was sugar vs duran I in Montreal. Rematch in New Orleans was 180 degree different sugar ray.
If you are a true student of the sport you can re invent yourself to get past ONE guy style. Look at Bowe vs Holyfield II ...evander got away from his typical brawler mentality and out boxed him on his toes..didn't fall into traps. It was a masterpiece. It can be done.
-
Mastered Floyds style? Whats thats supposed to mean? There is no way Floyd is going to fight Manny anytime soon. Mayweather is going to fight Miguel Cotto next year. After last Saturday and all of Mannys previous fights. Pacquiao is hurting people badly. Mayweather will get KO'd and will one day be in the same position Roy Jones Jr. is right now. A wash has been. And Timmy did loose HUGE$ last saturday because I didn't believe Manny could hold off Margeritos pressure. Manny is in a league of his own.
Man floyd is not wasting time with cotto. If anything expect a margarito vs cotto rematch under bob arum milking his fighters.
your other observations sound from hatred of floyd. I base my predictions on what i know, skills in that damn ring alone. Floyd has all the goods hate him or love him.
-

Boxers can be brawlers ,brawlers can't be boxers.

That's the route Manny's gone lately, i'm sure this will add to his greatest claim. Two fighter back to back that looked horrible in their previous fight

That wasn't the same Duran, he was way out of shape and couldn't chase Leonard for 12rds.
Your style is your style, after a certain point you can't reinvent yourself. I can think of so many times when a fighter changes trainers and the trainer tries to change his style only to have the fighter revert back to his former style once they get hit or get into trouble.
Holyfield actually had two styles, on the outside on his toes, like terry Norris or toe to toe, esp when he gest hit. most fighters only have one. I cant think of another fighter who has two styles troughout a career
-
Boxers can be brawlers ,brawlers can't be boxers.
see that is the thing che....I don't see him as a brawler actually. more a volume guy, rhythm guy.

it's a simple adjustment to get past ONE fighter ONE night.

Every fighter eventually ends up being a washed up has been, so will Manny. Marg had 2 yrs off, that was a comeback fight for him. Not one expert gave Marg a chance. Manny didn't exactly challenged himself by taking that fight.
I hope u r wrong about fmw and Cotto. no reason for that fight to happen, that'll even be worst than last wks fight
-
it's a simple adjustment to get past ONE fighter ONE night.
not simple at all, you asking a fighter in the toughest fight of his career to change his style and do somehting he's never done. MAnny, Floyd, tyson, haglar, Hearnes, Jones, etc fougth the same way their entire career. Nothing simple about changing what you've always done at the level these guys are at

mayweather will never fight boxers like pacquiao or martinez, not anyone who has chance to beat him because is a coward and all his grandeur his built on the fact that he has no losses in his record.
The truth is that mayweather really lost one fight(mayweather vs castillo 1)and he suffer figther that are soutpow(zab judah almost won if he did not gassout in the second part of the fight) or fighther that pressure him for 12 rounds non stop(castillo) and both pacquiao and martinez are southpow and especially pacquiao could pressure him for 12 rounds non stop.
Remember that he retired once before because he he did not want to face margarito (a pressure fighter) and miguel cotto(at the time unbeaten and at the top of his game).
I am sure that now mayweather will try to fight cotto because is shot(he is not the same fighter after the margarito and pacquiao beating).
Do not get me wrong Mayweather has exceptional skill defensivly, really fast and accurate puncher, but he his a light puncher with frail hands and because of that he his not that all time great that most of the people think he his and if he ever lose once he would be exposed.
Mayweather miss the greatest attribute of the all time great boxers in history : THE BALLS. Because of that he will never be at the same level of DURAN, LEONARD, HEARNS or HAGLER, REAL MEN that did not fear to lose and got in the ring with the best at that time.
Oscar de hoya is much greater than mayweather because he fought everybody and lost to floyd in a split decision that could have gone eather way when he was at the end of his career and on his way down.

Nah bro, it was a 180 degree different Duran, Weight drained, completely out of shape and probably cold turkey lol
Having said that sometimes you get caught, i don't think it's indicative of how the rubber would go.
-
2011
martinez vs williams 3 - hay-maker shot in 2 makes for an intriguing 3
pac vs mosley - 3rd fighter he has fought after fmw exposed them but roach will only do the fight at 152, will dehydrate an old fighter ::). mosley still has a big right hand so they'll take as much as they can out of him
fmw vs cotto - biggest and safest ::) pay day since cotto doesnt work the body anymore
at some pt fmw will fight pac. as i've said it's more his 10 yr bitter relationship with arum than pac. in this case think ali hatred for don king.
next good fight nov 27th
berto 26 -0 - 20 vs hernandez 29-1-20 - this fight wont see 12 rds

I think Maidana vs Khan will be an interesting fight.
You have a exceptionally quick boxer with good power and a suspect chin(khan) against a brawler with great power but with a poor defence(maidana).

No they wouldn't let go ,getting out of a clinch is dangerous because your arms are tied up and your guard is lowered. The first one to free his arms in the clinch can easily land a punch on exit which can lead to a full fledged combination or a KO.
Showing your ignorance again Swede?

funny how people complain about how gay mma is when boxers just hug and refuses to let go if the ref doesn't separate them so they dont have to fight lol.
They worked with kicks/kness all the time lol.
And clincing in mma can leed to knee ko's, and td's or tiering the other dude out. In boxing it leads to the gay ref touching you 410 times per second lol.

Martinez’s dominance could cost him
THERE WAS SOME TALK OF A REMATCH WITH MARG. OBVIOUSLY WILLIAMS 3 IS POSSIBLE. FMW OR MANNY AT A MARG CATCH WEIGHT of 154 FIGHT ::)
and actually...he isnt too big because he is a smaller man than marg at 154...just has a bigger head so he looks bigger ::). he weighted 157 last night so he can make weight.
anyway...clear the webs paul.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Sergio Martinez did himself a world of good on Saturday, knocking out nemesis Paul Williams with one crushing left hook in the second round before a shocked crowd of 5,502 fans at Boardwalk Hall and an HBO audience to retain the World Boxing Council middleweight championship.
The punishing punch clearly established Martinez as the world’s finest 160-pounder, and no worse than the third-best fighter regardless of weight.
But Martinez’s dominant performance almost certainly erased any chance of the only two men above him in the pound-for-pound rankings from ever seriously considering a bout with him.

Sergio Martinez celebrates after a memorable knockout of Paul Williams.
(Getty Images)
If Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. were unlikely to fight Martinez before Saturday’s demolition of the lanky Williams, the crushing knockout in the center of the ring that sent Williams face-first to the canvas sealed the deal.
“I was waiting for a mistake and I was surprised when it happened so soon,” Martinez said after his 25th knockout improved his record to 46-2-2. “I didn’t want the judges to rob me this time.”
Martinez lost a split decision to Williams a year ago that was the 2009 Yahoo! Sports Fight of the Year. The rematch won’t win any Fight of the Year honors, but it is certainly the Knockout of the Year and has to be a candidate for Knockout of the Decade.
But it was a win that may have put him on a road to oblivion. Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum had ruled out the possibility of a Pacquiao-Martinez match earlier in the week, and the thunder in Martinez’s left hand likely erased whatever doubt may have remained in Arum’s mind about doing the deal.
Even Martinez conceded as much.
“Pacquiao is too small,” Martinez said. “It would be a mismatch.”
The rematch was a mismatch because Martinez made adjustments and Williams did not. Several days before the fight, Martinez trainer Gabriel Sarmiento woke up in the middle of the night and thought of another mistake he had noticed Williams making on tape which he hadn’t discussed with his fighter.
The next morning, Sarmiento discussed the flaw he saw with Martinez, then wrote out the plan on a notepad he found in his hotel room. On it, he predicted Martinez by second-round knockout.
“I knew if Paul made those same mistakes again, Sergio would take advantage of them and he did,” Sarmiento said.
Martinez jumped on Williams early and was landing good left hands from the early seconds. He seemed to stun Williams once about midway through the first round when they were battling on the ropes, but Williams kept throwing.
But in the second round, Williams’ legendary reach worked against him. He has extraordinarily long arms and an 82-inch reach, which is useful for hitting opponents from distances in another zip code. But it also takes his hook a lot longer to get from A to B because it has to travel so much further.
In the decisive moment, each man opted to throw a left. Martinez’s punch traveled a lot shorter distance and got to its target quicker, thudding on Williams’ mug. Williams went down face first and was out for about a minute as Martinez climbed the ropes and stuck a crown atop his head in celebration.
“I’m much faster than Paul Williams and that was the difference,” Martinez said.
Martinez was supremely confident that he would knock Williams out, but promoter Lou DiBella, as is his wont, was a worried mess. He is so emotional he often gets himself sick, and Martinez needed to calm his promoter down repeatedly.
Martinez was the epitome of calm heading into the match. He’s one of boxing’s finest athletes, but he’s so successful because he studies the sport intently and has the ability to adjust. He pored over tapes of Williams and was convinced the fight wouldn’t last long.
“He kept saying it wouldn’t go seven rounds,” DiBella said. “He told me he’d catch him with one of those punches. He must have said it a 1,000 times. You know me, I worried like a maniac and he was calming me down. He said, ‘Don’t worry, because I’m knocking him out.’ ”
He kept his word and sent a giddy DiBella dancing around the ringside area at Boardwalk Hall, vowing to get drunk in an all-night partying stupor.
“This is the greatest night of my life,” DiBella said. “I have the greatest [expletive] fighter in the world and this [expletive] just doesn’t happen to me.”
Martinez is 35 and doesn’t have a long time left in his career, planning to fight no more than four times. As a result, he’d love one of them to be against Pacquiao or Mayweather, though DiBella wasn’t expecting much luck when he spoke with Arum and Mayweather adviser Al Haymon.
“Neither Manny or Floyd watched this fight and said, ‘Hey, I want to fight Sergio Martinez,’ ” DiBella said.
The problem is if neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao will take a fight with him, Martinez’s options for a big-money fight are severely restricted. There is no one else in or around his division who is a big name and who would make an even moderately significant fight with him. He may be left to fight World Boxing Organization champion Dmitry Pirog, an unbeaten and almost completely unknown Russian, for short money.
It didn’t particularly matter much in the afterglow of victory for DiBella and Martinez. Martinez had to suffer the ignominy as a champion of being introduced first since Dan Goossen, Williams’ promoter, was designated as the lead promoter, and opted to have his man introduced in the champion’s traditional slot.
Martinez, though, never let the slights bother him. Williams, who signed a beer can for DiBella after Friday’s weigh-in and wrote, “I’m winning,” had irritated Martinez by predicting a knockout and making excuses about a lack of preparation time for the first fight.
Martinez was determined to shut him up and he did that conclusively on Saturday.
“I’m a boxer who makes no excuses,” Martinez said. “I said at the final [pre-fight] press conference that I was tired of all the excuses Paul Williams made.”
There were no excuses. There may be no big fight. DiBella, for a few hours, couldn’t be bothered worrying about making the next one.
“I’m not going to worry about it,” he said. “I have the best fighter in the world. I’m going to enjoy tonight, get messed up and then worry about it on Monday.”

Pacquiao,Mayweather and Martinez are the 3 best fighter in the world!
It is a shame that problably they will never fight against each other because the cowardice of Mayweather and the greed of Arum!
This never happen in the 80(remember the memorable fights between the great 4:DURAN,LEONARD,HEARNS,HAGLER) or before in the history of boxing.
Promoter like Arum, cowards like Mayweather and Haye,4 different world boxing associations(WBA,WBC,WBO,IBF)and too many weight classes(super and junior attached to the original 8 weight classes) are KILLING THE SPORT OF BOXING!
Let go back to 8 weight classes, one belt of world champion in each weight class, and 3 mandatory defense in one year in order to defend world champion belt and BOXE WILL RISE AGAIN!

It has happened since forever. Back to the days of Dempsey, johnson, Robinson et cetera. The weight classes and associations need to be cut back but it won't ever happen, too much money to be made and you can't kill enterprise unfortunately.
Mayweather is pretty much a joke to be honest, very gifted athlete but he typifies everything that is wrong with boxing.

think 8 weights with one catch in-between isnt a problem. bring belts back to wbc, wba and ifb. manny won wbo belts twice...welter and super welter...without a mandatory vs the wbc or wba which would put in him in line for berto.
you at least need mandatories between major belt holders....but these fucks would vacate the belts anyway and move up vs a clown than fight a good young title holder.
yeah...and manuel steward talked on fmw avoiding guys as of late...esp at welterweight. early in his career he did fight guys but the undefeated thing is in his head now. manny also took on real guys at the lighter weights.
arum and king must be brothers.

Jaime you are wright in what you said but remember that the enterprise of boxing is killing himself this way.
There are always less young kids in boxing nowdays and most of them prefere UFC because the prestige of world champions in boxing is way down from were was once! Look in UFC there are few weight classes and only one world champion in each one so anybody is undisputed in their weight class and nobody can claim to be the best without fighting for the world belt championship.
Clowns like Mayweather or Haye are not allowed in a organization like UFC!
Exemple: yesterday nite I came back from work I start my computer to see who won the martinez vs williams fight I clik on sport on my homepage yahoo and there is a picture of the last fight between rampage Jackson and his brazilian opponent and nothing about a middleweight world boxing bout, I had to clik to boxe in order to know the result!
What did this means to you? There is already more in interest in UFC than boxe! And for a hardcore boxe fans like me who do not give shit about UFC do not look good for the future of the sport!
