Title: Anyone addicted to cardio?
Post by: Master Blaster on November 26, 2010, 10:56:59 PM
I'm slowly falling into a cardio addiction. I had a taste of it years ago, when I used to do a lot of stationary bicycle. Recently though (after a long layoff), I've taken things to a whole new level. I'm doing tabata and treadmill on my weight days. Feeling REALLY high afterwards. I'm adding a little 1/3 dimethyl just to add a kick to the high.  :-\  I don't see any serious downsides yet, but I wonder if they might be a toll to pay eventually.

yes...I never thought I would but I currently have the same thing going on...Give me 1-2 cups of coffee then give me an ipod filled with great music & an hour on a elliptical and I'm good to go...feel great for hours afterward....It's been like this for 3-4 months now and I cant see me stopping...It's crazy because my entire life I dreaded & rarely did cardio now I can't stop...It's a good problem...

I hate doing slow steady paced cardio.

But I was just starting to sprint 2x a week and i was really enjoying it.

I was getting lean as fuck too.

Then I got in a car accident a few weeks ago and could barely move let alone sprint.

As soon as I get better im gonna pick it back up again.

Well I was just starting out.

There are some tennis courts by my house, so id do a dynamic warmup ( some lunges on the court, squats, squat jumps and some joint mobility drills ) then id start sprinting.

The court is about 30 yards, so the first week i did 3 sprints 2x a week, then every 2 weeks i bumped it up one sprint.

I was @ 5 sprints 2x a week before i got put on the disabled list......I was getting lean too

Cardio burns muscle too not just fat .. also there's a study that shows calcified plaque in heart arteries is higher in cardio freaks

Sounds cool!

I read this article lately http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/an_ez_guide_to_sprinting

and thought about starting a sprinting program as well. I have a park right over the street, so it would be a good way to do some additional cardio.

Honestly, be careful with the knees.  EVERY serious runner I met thru work was there to buy an elliptical or treadmill because they developed knee probs over the years.....

Sane here. They're typically women with the biggest probs. I see middle-aged women who can't walk properly doing miles of running on treadmills

absolutely. I take care of them. Sure they will shit the bed in a few years, that what happens to old age. But, goal for 2012 is to do an ironman competition (if that is what you call it). We will see after all the runs I have already registered for and still waiting to see if I get into the NYC marathon. But I'm trying to qualify for the boston marathon in Feburary's marathon

A friend of mine in college did the South African Ironman......he trained constantly....woke up at 5am to swim in a lake, rode his bike to and from school which was about 15 miles and then would run between classes.....took about 5 showers a day in the college gym showers....hahah.....and he eat a massive amount of food.  And he was around 30yrs old at the time.

Fucking love it, however I refuse to run on pavement, my ankles a bitch from soccer. Honestly I don't even like lifting weights that much, if just gives me something to do on my off days when my ankle is being a bitch. It's called an endorphin addiction, I can't go more than 2 days without doing something intense otherwise I get depressed as hell.

On the plus side it makes sex/drinking/living/stress/smoking weed/ everything ten times better. It's like some wonder drug for me. Just got 1hour .45 minutes until 2 hours of soccer can't fucking wait.

100% and I thought I was the only one. I started off doing cardio 2-3 a week, now its 6 days a week for a minimum of 40 minutes. Stimulants+ music and I'm set.

It's gotten to the point where I feel like shit unless I do cardio, which is pretty fucked up. Im definetly over training but fuck it.

Or carrying cars up steep hills, running stadium stairs with a midget on your back, or waiting for the cops to go on patrol and then purposely snatching a purse right in front of them so they chase you ::)

i think it can be quite addictive when your in full pelt, as in contest prep... but once you stop its so hard to start again, i keep meaning to get a few sessions in but just cant be arsed these days..

is nice feeling very fit tho, i work a manual job ( ship yard worker/engineer ) and it does help when your cardio is good, especaily when your carrying alot of weight around

I had sex with a really fat, sweaty chick yesterday. Using a metronome to time the frequency of thrusts and taking my pulse rate every 5 minutes I was able to stay within 6 beats per minute of my training heart rate for a sustained period of time. I worked in both the aerobic and anaerobic energy zones for a total of 40 minutes and burned 650 calories, but I broke two ribs and have a really bad rash.

I think today I'll stick to the stationary bike.

Absolutely. Huge difference. I also don't have to diet as strictly and my stamina is through the roof. It took about 6 months, but I can run 4 miles now with barely breaking a sweat. My body has made adaptations and I'm much leaner as a result. It's tough to stay disciplined but if you can handle it, you will see great rewards. I still lift, but only once or twice a week for maintenance purposes.

It's crazy, but cardio wise your body will start to regress pretty quickly if you take too much time off. Within 2-3 weeks of inactivity, your pretty much starting from zero. But with lifting, you maintain 80% of your strength by just doing maintenance a few times a month. That's why I'm so much more diligent with the cardio.

I'm quite impressed with your response to my question man, you know what you are talking about as far as weight training and muscle maintance as compared to cardio maintance. And yeah, when one is training their ass off with high-intensity cardio, then they are given a license to eat lots o junk and still stay lean and fit ;D

So by that logic I've never eaten shit floating in the toilet at a public restroom, so how would I know that I didn't like that either? Your a fagg and a moron of the highest magnitude. Also, I wouldn't need to climb stairs to know I was afraid of heights. That's the dumbest thing I have ever read on this website, which is quite an accomplishment.
