Title: 'A Calorie is a Calorie' debate - proof to end it
Post by: no one on December 06, 2010, 04:16:40 PM

i can eat what i want, but there is one restriction - calories.

i do have a degree, and am currently studying for my 2nd, but that shouldn't matter.

i am not claiming its my studies, intellect or logic that prove a calorie is a calorie, only every properly well conducted study on the topic  ;) .

i don't blame you for not believing me, wavelength, adonis, and the great writers and scientists i have mentioned in this log earlier.

this fat bozo calls himself a scientist now and a great writer! he is now one of the preeminent thinkers of all time regarding training and nutrition.  ahahahahahahahahaha please keep us in the loop on your magical training secrets and keep dispensing with such authority your advise on all things training related.

listen up kids- pay real close attention and you too can be a mess of loose flesh, floppy 15" arms, pepperoni nips, stretch marks, and back fat wider than your shoulders.

If you do nothing with it, then a calorie is a calorie.  For example, let's say you eat 6,000 calories a day of meat, fish and poultry and don't train, you are likely to smaller muscles with a big gut.  Now, if you eat 6,000 calories a day of typical fast food and really bust hump in the gym every day for two or more hours at a time, you are likely to get larger muscles, with perhaps no abdominals showing.

6,000 calories of nothing but Hostess Fruit Pies, Twinkies and Cup Cakes?  You are likely to get sick.  Really sick.  Fat, dumb and happy, but sick.  And tired.  Sick and tired from sugar highs and lows.  To an extent you can blame it on the food, but in the end it really is, for the greater part, what you do with it.

A calorie is certainly a calorie.
Just as one ounce of water is one ounce of water.
However, how they react in the body is completely different.

Actually I have videos of that contest and he was in great shape, depending on whether you are taking the piss? Mike always held pretty good condition year round. Oh and for the record, last time I dieted down, I did it with a low carb diet and maintained an extreme condition for 3 months with "calorie is a calorie" method, eating between 2500-3500 calories a day.

a calorie is a calorie is really kinda stupid cause it may be a calorie but depending on what it is it does totally different things in the body...
i guess its like a pound of feathers and a pound of iron is still both a pound......but a lb of iron dont make a good pillow and a pound of feathers does not make a good 45lb plate...

i think thats a good way of explainin that!!

You technically didn't do a "calorie is a calorie" method, as you admit that you "did it with a low carb diet".

Nah PJim, I wasn't taking a piss out of Mentzer. I think that "diet" has literally nothing to do with looking great, except that one needs to eat some calories at some point in time 8) P.S. I even believe in rather low protein intake, case in point, a powerlifter friend of mine only ate about 80 grams of protein per day and maintained his 280 pounds of fairly lean weight 12-15% bodyfat and his 700 lb bench press

You know its very easy to go from 400lbs of fatass to 300lbs of fatass... but i am positive that once fatpanda does drop down a significant amount if he continues to eat kit kats, ice cream and all the other bullshit that he eats because he is a pussy and can't really eat clean- he will hit a huge wall and stop making any progress.

Not to mention his "diet" isn't ground-breaking by any means...

Jeez dude lighten up I don't know shit about nutrition.

You are losing weight so fair play to you. However don't try to overthink it. More people have fucked up more things in life by trying to be innovative or different than simply sticking to the tried and tested basics.

Yes. The argument is dumb.

The point is that what matters is the total amount of energy plus a certain amount of protein for muscle retention. And not beeing all hard-core and only eating dry chicken breast, tasteless rice, and stinky tuna out of the can. You can easily get fat with those ingredients just as you can get ripped without them.

Although I see the point you are trying to make, no one gets easily fat eating tuna, chicken and rice. I guess if someone were to eat 15 to 20 cups or more of rice daily.

Yes I ate too much. It's when I was young and dumb and thought you grow an insane amount of muscle if you stuff your face constantly with all them clean foods.

But I agree that for some people a diet of foods which are less calorie dense can be more convenient in regard to being able to stick to the diet.

Yeah me too. It's really easy to eat a DQP with cheese in say less than 5 minutes and the same amount of calories in fish and rice is a lot more volume and would take maybe 3x the time to eat and may help with people dieting. I do not believe that there is such a thing as a clean or junk diet as food is food, but I realize what people are trying to convey with such statements.

Ive said this before.

A calorie is a calorie indeed, its for people who are trying to simply lose weight (muscle, water and fat).
It works for sure but you look like shit in the end.

If you want to lose weight, keep it off and look good. eat a clean, below mainteinance diet.

Also weight training is a must.  ::)

And this whole clean food shit is a bunch of bullshit, no one here actually knows. The people that claim eating clean foods 9 chances out of 10 have great genetics. So there testimonial means fuck all. Genetics is also a factor that skews any research into nonsense, some people might work great on the kitkat diet others might fails miserably, this shit is beyond the realm of the forum.

You make a good point meso, but THE KEY IS TRAINING, if you train, and you train hard and consistently, then you are gonna look good no matter what "diet" you follow. Case in point, eat a textbook diet, and don't train and then tell me how you look.
