Title: Sleep Anxiety. Serious Thread
Post by: The_Leafy_Bug on January 31, 2011, 06:24:40 PM
You guys ever experience this? Usually it happens during contest prep from the stress of upcoming shoes and being wired on caffeine but i just recently had my first offseason attack. It is slightly sleep apnea related i think. As i fall asleep, right before sleeping into unconsciousness i stop breathing and wake up gasping. This episode happens for 5 hours straight and i start to go insane. The inside of my head feels like the way TV static looks. I panic and freak out how im not going to be able to function at work the next day. Then about 2 hours before i have to go to work ill sleep like a baby until the alarm clock goes off.

While im trying to fall asleep my brain is searching for any possible thing that could have caused me to end up in the current state. I woke up at about 3 am last night and threw up my 342784735874350730 gram protein shake and then eventually fell asleep. I had a hell of a day today. The only thing i can link to this is consuming a high protein meal before bed which i have read can decrease REM sleep. I don't know... im just taking a guess here. Anyone else ever had this problem. This stuff scares me soo bad i literally start to DREAD my contest prep. In years past it wasn't too bad of an issue. I have had years where i diet down and slept like a baby every night. My first diet i had problems. The diet i did last year i had MAJOR problems. It makes me want to quit bodybuilding  :(

yes

you get it from taking too much testasterona -

I HAVE to take xanax that I am prescribed to sleep or I wake up

I can take ambien and lunesta and I still will wake up due to anxiety

she(my Dr) told me to take them for sleep so I have been for 3 months now

CPAP is extremely hard to sleep with. I've read the face masks for jaw alignment are best but this isn't totally sleep apnea related. I sleep on my side so breathing shut off shouldn't be a problem. It is just wear i stop breathing period. It isn't an every night occurrence. This one last night was really unexpected. The first one i've had while not dieting. I will more then likely sleep like a baby tonight.

Smoking weed is better than all that shit.

Valium is pretty awesome actually. Tylenol PM is shit. Melatonin makes you fall asleep well, but it doesn't get you high, so it's not all that great.

Smoking marijuana increases anxiety in the long run. Refuse to touch it. Never have touched it. Probably never will.

Indeed... its as if the synapses are firing 1000 mph. I jump from one thought to the next trying to figure out what the hell is going on. It is almost like i can hear the popping and it drives me nuts. I feel like if the problem were to go on for a week id probably end up shooting myself. Obviously id seek some kind of help from a doctor before making a decision like that but the pain of confusion and pressure is unbearable.

Been there, cept I was there for 4 months straight, 17 hours a day 7 dyas a week. Only slept when I got loaded up by the doctors with anything that could make me sleep. I used to live in fear of it, and it would happen every so often. Then I just  quit caring if it happened, and lo and behold that was  it. I'll tell you one thing though, steroids have 100% had something to do with this happening to you, I was juicing when it happened to me and I am not a recreational drug user at all. I dont care what anyone says, steroids contribute to this as it alters your whole chemistry balance.  I fail to see how bodybuilding is worth going nuts in the head.

I know - put I had that seizure and had TERRIBLE anxity after that episode so the xanax started

they had me on so many diff AEDs (anti epilepsy drugs) that I would see people in my rroom at nite

I have no more ambien or lunesta it was just trials cause sleep depervation is main cause of seizure

xanax is main thing for me now but she gives me 120 2mg every 30day but I may take half that in that amount of time

I see your point, its sounds worse than it really is with me :)

Smoking marijuana increases anxiety in the long run. Refuse to touch it. Never have touched it. Probably never will.

CPAP masks are difficult to adjust to but only the beginning.  It took me about a month to get used to mine, but now, I throw it on and go right to sleep, no problem.  It's more difficult for me to sleep without it now.

As far as weed goes, it's pretty much the onyl thing that will get me through Trensomnia. Some nice Indica about an hour before bed helps me quite a bit.  That's the only time I smoke at night before bed.

yes

I believe it was a mismeasured dose of GBL i took before I went to workout

I rolled a subaru last spring and almost broke my foot completely off, they said I had a seizure then but I think I feel asleep but I sleep thru a fckn head on collison 60mph on a bridge embuttment, no seatbelt, I just woke up, upside down middle of highway after long night working at the strip club, wastin drunk or even high, eatin a bacon egg n cheese biscuit then Im upside down staring at a cop runnin toward my car like it was on fire

I just watch this bodybuilding thing like it's a freakshow. I don't see how you guys can fuck yourselves up like that constantly and jeopardize your health. It's a train wreck.

Yeah I thought it was probably drug related.  8)

I guess your GABA-system is fried and you really need the Xanax. Terrible drugs long term but on the other hand you have to sleep.  :-\

why ?

I don't know if it's related in Leafy's case but I've woken up a few times gasping for air, like my airways were blocked - complete panic for about 15 seconds until I could breathe. I attributed it to acid reflux. Certain foods and tablets give me terrible acid reflux. Sleep study showed I didn't have sleep apnea.

Sounds like GERD..i had a similar episode with it where I had my shake just before bed and had THE WORST chest pain in my sleep that woke me up. It scared me so bad i had a panick attack and SWORE i was dying..If you eat or have a shake close to bed time it may be a combo of GERD where the shake is coming back up which cuts off the wind pipe to keep it from going into the lungs and a panick attack from not getting enough rest hence physical fatigue.. Simple solutuion was not eating so close to bedtime and making sure to relax try yoga that's what worked for me.. and get more rest.

go get a sleep study done. You're probably getting anxiety at night, cause the sleep apnea is suffocating you at night. and you mind feels the sense of death. The last thing to want to do to take a drug to sleep. You might not wake up when you start suffocating.

just lay in bed relaxing untill you fall asleep. if you wake up, just lay there relaxed and peaceful untill you sleep. dont toss and turn, dont get out of bed. keep your eyes closed. if you lay there relaxed all night and dont sleep, you probably didnt need any sleep. here are excetions, rare ones, but your body will rest if it needs to.

Sounds like trenbologna. Hope you manage to get some sleep. My bud wakes up fucking gagging and banging out lungers when he's on tren. I have sleeping challenges too but its usually because I have little self discipline and find something awesome to do instead of getting desperately needed sleep.

Hope you get your shit straightened out. That sounds fucking horrible. I empathize with anyone who has sleeping challenges.

gh shoudl prevent all side effect of other steroid,,legit gh that is,, the only side it may not prevent is anxiety and temper while on trenbolona,,those 2 will have to be control by you the bodybuilr,,the temper you have to becaue you will end up in jail if not,,or like most do they end up begging for girl to come back because they call her bitch when she veet their back  and did it too fast,,or fight witrh her on anything,,so you just need to know how to take deep breath and try nto to even though its very hard and you will fihgt with woman when on legit trenbolona,,
the anxiety is something that also hard to control,,you just need to low your profile and concentrate on bodybuild,,you need to remember stress fuck you up,,even on gh and sterois it wont make you lose noticable muscle but it will fuck you up and wont let you lift as much or eat when you need,,so just learn to work with anxiety or if severe one take med,,severe one mean you can not function and get panic attack wich should not happen with strong fellas such as yourself,,

sleeping,,on gh everyone sleep good,,every one,,agfter 5 hour you feel like you slept 12,,it i s the only hormone that you make you sleep and forget about everything and get you into very deep sleep whiel you sleep,,very good,,just like when you werw 15,,same exactly thing

It makes me want to quit bodybuilding  :(

its the caffiene brother, these attacks happend to me even during the day while on cafffiene, its your body panicking from not enough oxygen. This shit happens to us when we get older and not very fun. Our bodies are invincible when younger. good luck

its still gonna increase blood pressure bro. that is the whole "high feeling" in essence. eventually your arteries or heart valves mutate enough to where the high becomes anxiety because oxygen flow becomes less

The poster who mentioned GERD might be correct.  It manifests itself in many different ways like he described, with many of the symptoms not feeling anything stomach related.

You might want to try some over the counter stuff like Prevacid (lanzoprazole) or Zantac.  Also, you can combine it with an OTC product called Gaviscon which I've found effective.

When I'm overly tired there is a brief period of time between sleep and consciousness when my body will almost convulse. At times this can be so severe that then I can't fall asleep. There is a medical explanation for this occurance, but I can't remember what is is called.

happens to me all the time, except the throwing up part. I wake up like a shot thinking I have stopped breathing or on the opposite end of the scale that my heart is going 200 bpm. Difference now is I am so experienced with it I just laugh it off and am fast asleep 1 minute later. I know it wont kill me, and even if it does so be it. I found it happened the most when I was dehydrated. It rarely if ever happens when I have drank enough water

Yup, been there...

dehydratation and low blood sugar combined can fuck you up to the point of having your adrenal glads go haywire and put you in a state of anxiety as you describe...

I do that as well....maybe not a full two hours every night, but at least an hour.  People need to "wind down" but too often they are busy, busy until it's bedtime and then think they can just turn it off at the snap of their fingers and get good sleep......brain keeps working long after we fall asleep...and sometimes thru the whole night.

I take a tincture of a strong Kava extract plus a good dose of Source Naturals' sublingual time released melatonin. That combo works great. The Kava chills your nerves and the melatonin gets you into a good sleep cycle. Regular melatonin can wear off in the middle of the night, but the time release lasts all night..plus I hold the sublingual under tongue for at least 5 minutes. Works better like that. However, if you start worrying that you won't fall asleep, you'll get anxious and your brain won't shut off.

cupla things I was thinking .. but you can dismiss it all and that's kewl

you can take your protein shake like 40 minutes before bed .. but if you're concerned about blunting catabolism you could just use a slower digesting protein like fish and see if that works better .. but a simple magnesium /melatonin blend should also help you and not hurt

I'd also raise the head of your bed .. or use 2 extra pillows under your head to ease the breathing issues .. the cpap for apnea isn't bad to learn to sleep with and a lot better than the dealing with the fatigue and anxiety from being overtired .. apnea doesn't "always" wake you up all the way .. so you're probably not getting much solid sleep and thinking it's only waking you once or twice and in actuality it's more like 15-20 times

cupla things I was thinking .. but you can dismiss it all and that's kewl

you can take your protein shake like 40 minutes before bed .. but if you're concerned about blunting catabolism you could just use a slower digesting protein like fish and see if that works better .. but a simple magnesium /melatonin blend should also help you and not hurt

but if someone had huge tits like you would that not make sleepign very dificult??

ZMA is the best supplement IMO....Good for sleep, and sexual function...I buy the ingredients separately for about 4 dollars a month..

i do the same thing...just buy the Zinc, Mg and B.....very cheap and works for me.

Another option is to watch any of Gutler's DVDs.... especially when he tours his fucking house for the 5th time...

knocked the fuck out in like 10mins tops...

also try 5-htp... 100mg a couple of hours before bedtime..

Get a few sleep study tests done too.  8)

It is kinda unrealistic though because you are hooked up and you have electro's on your head, chest, hips,..etc and can not sleep the way you would at home.  ;)

I had one done under the table after  a show. My friends gf is a medical equipment sales rep and they told me my sleep apnea was worse then the worst 60 year old they had ever seen. It was however after a show. They want 300 dollars for me to do a take home sleep study which i've been meaning to do but funds have been tight.

putting your faith in man=failure

study what? find a "problem" so they can pump you up with drugs?

just eat healthy cut back on meat and dont do drugs. your body is too reved up from meat making you bloodthirsty in the night like a rabbid animal that cant keep still. eating meat causes bad behavior

Leafy Bug neds to stop competing.

His body can't handle the abuse.

He can keep on doing tons of gear and lifting. But he needs to quit the dieting and hard drugs.

He's gonna fuck himself up. But that's why bodybuilding is entertaining. You watch people fuck themselvs up and it's like a train wreck.

In the new March 11 Muscular Development, with Arnold on the cover..on page 277, Thomas O' Connor "The Anabolic doc" claims Anabolic steroids can cause and worsen Obstructive sleep apnea.. He also goes on to say that Sleep Apnea can be related to left ventricular hypertrophy..also caused by A.S. Something to think about, Mr. Bug.
