Fox News' opinion website Fox Nation and their readers don't seem to know satire when they see it.
The Fox News sister site re-posted a joke from the satirical website The Onion Friday about President Barack Obama sending a 75,000-word e-mail to the the entire nation. At no point does Fox Nation note that the story is a satire.
The Onion story joked that Obama had "reached the end of [his] rope" and sent out the "rambling" stream of consciousness e-mail that addressed everything from the war in Afghanistan to his live-in mother-in-law.
The story goes on to say that the fake Obama e-mail was 27 megabytes and 127 printed pages.
If Fox Nation knows the story is a joke, they aren't letting on, and many of the comments on the post treat the story as if it were actual news.

Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.
The fact that the Americans used British nuclear secrets as a bargaining chip also sheds new light on the so-called “special relationship”, which is shown often to be a one-sided affair by US diplomatic communications obtained by the WikiLeaks website.
Details of the behind-the-scenes talks are contained in more than 1,400 US embassy cables published to date by the Telegraph, including almost 800 sent from the London Embassy, which are published online today. The documents also show that:

Washington lobbied London in 2009 for permission to supply Moscow with detailed data about the performance of UK missiles. The UK refused, but the US agreed to hand over the serial numbers of Trident missiles it transfers to Britain.
Professor Malcolm Chalmers said: “This appears to be significant because while the UK has announced how many missiles it possesses, there has been no way for the Russians to verify this. Over time, the unique identifiers will provide them with another data point to gauge the size of the British arsenal.”
Duncan Lennox, editor of Jane’s Strategic Weapons Systems, said: “They want to find out whether Britain has more missiles than we say we have, and having the unique identifiers might help them.”
While the US and Russia have long permitted inspections of each other’s nuclear weapons, Britain has sought to maintain some secrecy to compensate for the relatively small size of its arsenal.
William Hague, the Foreign Secretary, last year disclosed that “up to 160” warheads are operational at any one time, but did not confirm the number of missiles.

The latest revelation from Wikileaks is the most damaging so far to the Anglo-American Special Relationship. The disclosure in The Telegraph today that the Obama Administration “secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty” points to an astonishing betrayal of America’s closest friend and ally, that may have significant implications for the relationship between David Cameron and Barack Obama.
According to The Telegraph report:

Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.

In December I wrote extensively on the White House’s relentless drive to sign the New START Treaty with Moscow as part of its controversial “reset” policy, despite the fact that it represented a staggeringly bad deal for the United States, and a remarkably good one for the Russians. The Telegraph report confirms the extraordinary lengths to which Washington stooped to meet Russian demands, which stunningly included passing on British nuclear secrets to a major strategic adversary.
As the Prime Minister and senior British ministers head to Germany this weekend to take part in the Munich Security Conference, key questions must be asked of their US counterparts, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as to the exact nature of the deal struck with Russia, and what more has been compromised in relation to British national security.
The matter is serious enough to merit Congressional hearings in Washington as well as parliamentary hearings in London. It is easy to see why the Obama team refused to allow the US Senate access to the negotiating documents for New START, as they would have sparked outrage on both sides of the Atlantic that would almost certainly have killed the Treaty. The Telegraph report clearly contradicts repeated claims by the Obama negotiating team that no side deals were struck with their Russian counterparts. Not for the first time, the current US administration has been eager to appease America’s enemies while shamelessly undercutting her allies.

The United States is stabbing Britain in the back with a nuclear missile.
In order to get Russia to agree to the New START nuclear-weapons treaty, the United States reportedly agreed to tell the Russians secrets about Britain's nuclear arsenal, according to diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks.
The United States told Russia that it would hand over the serial numbers of the Trident missiles it supplies Britain, one of America's closest allies.
The serial numbers would give Russia a good handle on just how many missiles are in the hands of Britain, which has long refused to give any details of its nuclear-weapons program, according to The Telegraph newspaper.
It's not clear if the agreement will apply only to the missiles supplied from now on or to all of the Trident missiles in the UK's arsenal.
America had asked the Britain to give up more detailed data on its nukes. The United States and Russia both reveal to each other such information about their own arsenals.
But Britain steadfastly refused, since it has such a comparatively small stockpile, the paper reported. The country's foreign secretary last year said that "up to 160" warheads are generally active, but wouldn't divulge the number of missiles.

The US secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty, The Daily Telegraph can disclose.
Information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain will be given to Russia as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.
Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal.
The fact that the Americans used British nuclear secrets as a bargaining chip also sheds new light on the so-called “special relationship”, which is shown often to be a one-sided affair by US diplomatic communications obtained by the WikiLeaks website.
Details of the behind-the-scenes talks are contained in more than 1,400 US embassy cables published to date by the Telegraph, including almost 800 sent from the London Embassy…
Although the treaty was not supposed to have any impact on Britain, the leaked cables show that Russia used the talks to demand more information about the UK’s Trident missiles, which are manufactured and maintained in the US.
Washington lobbied London in 2009 for permission to supply Moscow with detailed data about the performance of UK missiles. The UK refused, but the US agreed to hand over the serial numbers of Trident missiles it transfers to Britain.

This is bunk. Under the 1991 START Treaty, the U.S. agreed to notify Russia of specific nuclear cooperation with the United Kingdom, such as the transfer of SLBM’s [submarine launch ballistic missiles] to the UK, or their maintenance or modernization. This is under an existing pattern of cooperation throughout that treaty and is expected to continue under New START. We simply carried forward and updated this notification procedure to the new treaty. There was no secret agreement and no compromise of the UK’s independent nuclear deterrent.
But it appears that Mr Crowley, Assistant Secretary of State with the Bureau of Public Affairs, has not checked his facts. There are, in fact, substantial differences between the 1991 and 2011 START Treaties. A key example is that, as the Wikileaks documents show, the US agreed to give the Russians unique identifiers for the American missiles transferred to Britain. These identifiers were not included in the original 1991 START Treaty. Crowley’s key assertion that the Obama administration “simply carried forward and updated this notification procedure to the new treaty” is completely false. It has no basis in reality.
As a key Wikileaks document published by the Telegraph shows, describing a key conversation between US and Russian negotiators at a meeting in Geneva on February 26, 2010, Washington offered Moscow “more information than was disclosed under START”:

Orlov asked about the U.S. practice of transferring Trident II missiles to the United Kingdom (UK) in reference to the Russian-proposed agreed statement on the subject. Trout pointed out that most of the provisions contained in the proposed agreed statement were already covered by other sections of the treaty. He noted that notifications existed for the transfer and return of missiles to and from a third party. Additionally, he pointed out, the Russian Federation will receive unique identifiers for each of the missiles transferred to the UK, which was more information than was disclosed under START.
The Telegraph’s revelations have sparked a good deal of interest on Capitol Hill, where a number of Congressional offices are already demanding answers from the Obama administration over the treatment of America’s closest ally. The attempt by the administration to spin this story also raises important questions as to why the negotiating documents for the New START Treaty were not handed over to the Senate for scrutiny during the debates over START. It is hugely important that government officials convey an accurate account of policy decisions that are made behind the scenes – away from the public eye, but in the name of the American people.
The Telegraph’s report raises major questions over what other deals may have been struck by Barack Obama’s team at the expense of US allies in order to clinch a deal with the Russians, and why the whole negotiating process has been hidden from Congressional scrutiny. There can be no doubt that, despite the Mr Crowley’s attempts to bury the story, Congressional interest in Washington will grow intensely in the coming weeks, as lawmakers demand to know what was said and promised during these negotiations.

As a key Wikileaks document published by the Telegraph shows, describing a key conversation between US and Russian negotiators at a meeting in Geneva on February 26, 2010, Washington offered Moscow “more information than was disclosed under START”:

Orlov asked about the U.S. practice of transferring Trident II missiles to the United Kingdom (UK) in reference to the Russian-proposed agreed statement on the subject. Trout pointed out that most of the provisions contained in the proposed agreed statement were already covered by other sections of the treaty. He noted that notifications existed for the transfer and return of missiles to and from a third party. Additionally, he pointed out, the Russian Federation will receive unique identifiers for each of the missiles transferred to the UK, which was more information than was disclosed under START.
The Telegraph’s revelations have sparked a good deal of interest on Capitol Hill, where a number of Congressional offices are already demanding answers from the Obama administration over the treatment of America’s closest ally. The attempt by the administration to spin this story also raises important questions as to why the negotiating documents for the New START Treaty were not handed over to the Senate for scrutiny during the debates over START. It is hugely important that government officials convey an accurate account of policy decisions that are made behind the scenes – away from the public eye, but in the name of the American people.
The Telegraph’s report raises major questions over what other deals may have been struck by Barack Obama’s team at the expense of US allies in order to clinch a deal with the Russians, and why the whole negotiating process has been hidden from Congressional scrutiny. There can be no doubt that, despite the Mr Crowley’s attempts to bury the story, Congressional interest in Washington will grow intensely in the coming weeks, as lawmakers demand to know what was said and promised during these negotiations.

This story was posted on a lot of MSM outlets, including some of the biggest papers in the UK. Why not direct your blame at them? The update that Gardiner posted today offers some contaxt on the spin by Crowley. From what i understand, the issue is the serial numbers more than anythin, which were not part of the 1991 Treaty.

The Special Relationship between the U.S. and Britain has many facets, but at its core is close cooperation in the military and intelligence realms. And at the heart of our military cooperation is the U.S.–U.K. Mutual Defence Agreement.
Signed in 1958, and renewed every 10 years—most recently in 2004—the agreement provides for Anglo–American collaboration in nuclear technology. It provides the legal basis for the transfer to Britain of U.S.-made Trident II missiles—the launch platform for Britain’s nuclear deterrent—and for the much broader sharing of nuclear information between the two countries.
Because the agreement concerns exceptionally sensitive information and technologies, it imposes extremely tight security controls on both parties. Article V(c) of the 1958 agreement states:
Except as may be otherwise agreed for civil uses, the information communicated or exchanged, or the materials or equipment transferred, by either Party pursuant to this Agreement shall be used by the recipient Party exclusively for the preparation or implementation of defense plans in the mutual interest of the two countries.
Thus, neither the U.S. nor the U.K. can pass on anything either one acquires from the other. Article VII of the 1958 agreement explains how this requirement affects the U.S.’s negotiations with other nations:
Nothing in this Agreement shall be interpreted or shall operate as a bar or restriction to consultation or cooperation in any field of defense by either Party with other nations or international organizations. Neither Party, however, shall communicate classified information or transfer or permit access to or use of materials, or equipment, made available by the other Party pursuant to this Agreement to any other nation or international organization unless authorized to do so by such other Party, or unless such other Party has informed the recipient Party that the same information has been made available to that nation or international organization.
This means that the U.S. cannot pass on anything it receives from the U.K. to Russia unless the U.K. has authorized the U.S. to do so, or unless the U.K. has informed Russia that Russia has direct access to this information.
Does New START comply with these terms? The Daily Telegraph has reported:
Washington lobbied London in 2009 for permission to supply Moscow with detailed data about the performance of U.K. missiles. The U.K. refused, but the U.S. agreed to hand over the serial numbers of Trident missiles it transfers to Britain.
This allegation raises a number of disturbing questions. Did the U.K. agree to the transfer of the serial numbers (known in New START as “unique identifiers”)? Did the U.K. agree that the U.S. could, as it is required to do under the terms of New START, inform Russia of the “location of the transferred [missiles]”? For obvious reasons, this information is classified and thus subject to the controls of the 1958 agreement. Or has the U.K., as is its option under the 1958 agreement, made this information available to Russia directly? Most explosively, did the U.S., after Britain refused to allow the transfer of “detailed data” about its missiles, go ahead and transfer this data anyway?
Right now, there is no way to know the answers to any of these questions. But if New START is incompatible with the 1958 agreement, the treaty would be an explosive breach of a fundamental and longstanding U.S. treaty obligation. The Senate has a clear obligation to consider this question.

First off. calm down....the United States and Britain were working together on this all along and the US never did give the notifications mentioned above.....giving the Russians an identifier on British missiles was a way for the Russians to track the missiles so that they could not be given or sold to another party and that if they were, the Russians would say that we are in violation of the treaty which would be correct sine the weapons would have been passed to other nations....nothing wrong with that.....
also giving the Russians identifiers would do what exactly??????....if you gave me the license plate number for your car, does that give me an advantage in some way???..you STILL own the car and can still use it when you please.....

So yes, they got notified under the earlier START protocols of transfers of nuclear weapons — but they didn’t get the unique identifiers, which would quantify and specify the number of weapons transferred. That’s what the British refused to accept, and apparently what we agreed to do anyway.
