I already know I'm one of the people he is talking about. I don't have the money, and I'm not out of shape, but I don't have a smile plastered on my fuckin face 24/7

I'm miserable as fuck right now. Shit day at work (argued with some bitch about racism) then had a shit back workout in the gym (was still thinking about said bitch) and now I'm at home waiting for my dinner to cook and posting shit on Getbig. >:(
-
You know what makes me happy? Trying on posing trunks. I just try on pair after pair...different colors, some bedazzled, some glittered......and when I'm all done I just feel pretty.
-

you could give away all of your money to me so you have something to work for again.
That will make you feel good, and I will do volunteer work in return
;D

A wise man once told me that money doesn't necessarily make you happy, but it does make life a whole lot easier.

studies show that anywhere beyond 60,000 a year doesn't significantly increase happiness
after then the happiness levels off
-
you aren't constantly supposed to be happy ya numbfucks >:( unless you go around doing drugs constantly...
happiness is earned...you work hard...you provide for your loved once and then you feel a fleeting ...but precious moment of pure happiness...
the vaginal liberalism spreading thru this board is facking pathetic....
happy all the time ...my ass...
..actually on second thought...not my ass....some of you might be the perpetually "happy" sort >:(

i saw that fairly recently too. i think it goes back to the basic human need to feel secure/comfortable.

I've watched a ton of videos on ted.com about happiness, and I'll save everyone here the hours and just summarize
1. Devote yourself to something larger than yourself (this can take many forms, feeling part of a group (military, church, family, marriage, studies, work, helping others, etc))
2. Accept whatever comes your way (Einstein said "happiness isn't having what you want, it's wanting what you have") (Also a Dan Gilbert talk on ted.com that goes into this more)
3. Basic needs met (Maslow's hierarchy of needs basically, which goes back to the 60,000 a year)

I think alpha Alex is the cautionary tale on the 'money can't buy happiness' nonsense.

All excellent points that I 100% agree with. i met so many miserable wealthy people thru working with them on their home gyms, etc... one exception was a video game guy who developed "gears of war" I think, who lives here in Raleigh.....he was incredibly cool and treated us and the delivery guys like gold. Just a classy guy who I hope continues to do very well for himself... his house was gorgeous, but he was the type who just said, "come in....want a drink? What do you guys think? etc...."

Im pretty happy after reading about the miserable fucks in here. :)

X2, most people have no real need to be miserable...I used to be pretty much "Happy" all the damn time...but, I did have my bouts of cloudyness...now, after being on this board awhile, the pessimissm seems to be contagious...so you must fight it with the reality in knowing---"Y'all motherfvckers got it made!"

Close to 50 million Americans are infected with Toxoplasmosis. The Cat parasite. Doesn't matter what you do when you have this but it will cause some sort of melancholy and dumb you down. It can also turn woman into whores.

It also makes males agressive. and makes your reaction time slower.
Brazil has a big "problem" with that.
Which is why all brazil men fight and all brazil woman are into crazy sex.
not even kidding haha.

Money doesn't buy happiness.....it buys the things that make you happy.

I have totally lost my ability to be happy ever since:
- 1. Mom's health began it's final decline.
- 2. Laid off from a job I really liked.
- 3. A friend screwing me out of 15 thousand dollars.
- 4. The losses I incurred because I had to cash out investments early in order to keep up the payments to keep mom in assisted living.
- 5. Having to put the last months of Mom's assisted living on a credit card (with credit card interest rates).
- 6. Working like a Trojan to pay off said debts and not making any headway...
...so I would say that due to 1,2,3,4,5,6...I have lost the ability to be happy.

No worries, friend. Planet Nibiru will save you.

Meh happiness is a stupid fucking concept. There is no such thing.
The aim is to be content and involved in your life.
Some people are content and not involved(lazy fattys)
Some are involved but are fucking miserable(wannabes)
Some should be content, but just don`t understand that life is pretty boring.Or that money is a shit way to entertain yourself.
The only kind of people that really got problems are those who cannot afford to be content, due to the lack of security in their lives(not just money but that is a factor)
-
The problem with life is we believe that problems exist

expecting to be constantly happy is JUST PLAIN UNREALISTIC...unless you r on drugs...prescription or otherwise...
for fucks sake..happiness is earned..NO ONE is supposed to be constantly happy...
do ya all actually buy into that hollywood bullcrap so expect to be happy constantly???
99.999% of the world is not happy ALL the time....you earn it...and feel occasional happy moments...and are grateful for it....
99.99% of the the time i'm neither happy nor sad....i'm buzy...i guess...content is good enough for me :)

richest people in world get together once a year and pay the smartest people in the world to come and give talks about their field (they also pay the best violin players and best artists, etc to come and do whatever they're good at doing). Each person has only 20 minutes to give their talk or do whatever they're good at doing (some go over this time a little, some go under, etc). I usually just find a video I haven't seen and watch it while I eat because it takes me about 30 minutes to eat a meal.
Also, other places in the world to do their own "ted" thing each year so there are many ted conferences held each year now at different places
The best way to navigate the site is to go to the "tags" link and click on whatever field you're interested in. For example "God" or "Christianity" or "Philosophy" or "Psychology" and you can watch talks given by people in the past years in these fields.
It's a great site and you learn some very interesting things. I hope you spend some time on it. I hope this helps.

Thank you for the background and advice on how to find my way around on the site. I've been starting to read about the Law of Attraction, and NLP so your post kind rang familiar with that stuff. The site sounds like a very positive one, and I will be checking it out for sure.
Thanks Magoo 8)

Good advice from Jack - find the little things that make you happy. And it isn't money all the time - friends, satisfaction, family count way more

1- file bankruptcy
2- commit a crime
3 sit in jail for a year with room and board for free
4 watch cable tv, write, exercise, get your head clear
5 get out and start with new outlook on life

I think it was the great Beavis and Butthead who said: If nothing ever sucked, how would you know what was cool?
You gotta have one to offset the other.
