1. Bobby Heenan
2. Jimmy Hart
3. Mr. Fuji
4. Captain Lou Albano
5. Classie Freddie Blassie
6. Sunny
7. Sensational Sherri
8. Paul Bearer
9. 'Playboy' Gary Hart
10. Slick
Paul Ellering, The Grand Wizard, and Missy Hyatt

A few obvious omissions:
Jim Cornette
Paul E. Dangerously
JJ Dillon
and, of course
The legendary Downtown Bruno ;)
-
The greatest manager of all time is J.J Dillon. I am not sure why he needed to manage the Horsemen, but he did.
Number two? "Prescious" Paul Ellering.
If there needs to be a third it would go to Paul Jones.
Honorable mention to Jim Cornette and Gary Hart.
-
I've always thought that Cornette's best work was done behind the scenes - he had a good head for the business.
A lot of very good workers came out of SMW - and they weren't all cookie cutter clones like today.
In regards to Ellering, it's my opinion that the RW's made him what/who he was.
Take nothing away from him, but as a manager, I doubt he'd have been as over managing other guys.
RW's, on the other hand, were incredible with or without him.
As for Downtown Bruno, at least the guy had an action figure...as someone...eventually.
:)
-
I'll always be a mark for "The Brain."
-
Brain is tops but I enjoyed them all back in the eighties. Jimmy Hart with his infamous megaphone, Fuji with his cane and lets not forget one that was mentioned...
Lucious Johnny Valiant.... :)
-
I can't believe that nobody's mentioned Johnny Polo.
Who else could have gotten Adam Bomb over the way he was?
WTF, guys?
;D

A few others in the mix......Skandar Akbar, Sir Oliver Humperdink and Percy Pringle.
In regards to Ellering. I think he was a perfect compliment to the RW's and actually did serve as a real manager, not just on camera. and when he started out in GCW, he had an incredible stable....the original Legion of Doom w/Spoiler, Bundy, RW's, etc... as well.
JJ Dillon also served as more of a "real" manager to the Horseman. What I really thought he did best for them was give them that voice of "business as usual" and blended so well with the Horseman's bragging about their lifestyle.
Jim Cornette with the Mid-Night Express was incredible. Neither guy, regardless of the team, could talk at all and he got them over big-time.
Man, these lists just remind me of how far things have fallen. Almost ALL of these guys really enhanced the product, not just walk to the ring and stand around. Sad era to see gone.

Lol...I knew I forgot a few and I somehow knew you would save the day, Show. ;D
Great choices here.

i would have to go with lou albano,or the brain.
-
On the mic... the Brain
At Ringside... Jimmy Hart
Agree with the comments on Ellering- seemed more like a true manager, teaching the guys how to manage money and be smart, as a character, the RW were great with or without him.

Jimmy was animated and took some decent bumps.
So did Heenan, for that matter.
I always loved, too, the way Heenan reacted to the ring action.
Oftentimes, he sold the moves better than the guys in the ring.
-
In his prime, Ellering had one of the best physiques in wrestling. Even today, he'd be one of the best.

X2. Remember the tennis racket and when he used to talk about Mama? It don't get much better.
I guess the funny thing about Ellering is he was not that good. But he certainly was better than the Road Warriors. I guess that is why I remember him as being better.
No love at all for my man Paul Jones?? He carried our boy Wahoo.

Holy Cow! I had no idea Ellering ever looked like that!

I'm pretty sure he actually competed in some bb shows......"Precious" Paul looked great, could talk, but his ring work was very so-so....he did wrestle in GCW for a while before moving exclusively into managing.

Okay, I got Billy March in your other thread, but you really stumped me with this one.

Lol...liz spent most of her time locked in a janitor closet until showtime when she was summoned because Savage was extremely jealous of anyone even looking at her.

He seemed to have the right idea, sadly.

At least she was alive in that proverbial birdcage.
Maybe a bit more "space" would have benefitted her.
Perhaps being so sheltered for so long created an overwhelming rebellious streak in her.

According To the Honky Tonk Man's shoot interview from 2005 (and his interviews are well thought out and pretty accurate), the only people allowed to ride in Savage's limo were Ricky Steamboat because he was married, Rick Rude for the same reason and his brother Lanny Poffo. he was that jealous. Honky said when he wrestled Savage as IC champ at MSG, he litterally had her in a broom closet until match time to have other wrestlers avoid oogling or making small talk with her.

Was Billy Jack Haynes also on Macho's "approved list?"

Yes, actually he was. I forgot about him. He wa also allowed in Savage's limo.
F**k man....I have you read up on Haynes lately? Talk about f****d up....he got invilved with gum smuggling and drugs and all this bull...did some time, etc and he's another one being bitter toward the business for his stupid mistakes.

Yeah, I'd read some about the smuggling.
Supposedly, he got involved with some pretty bad people, but I didn't follow it that much.
I haven't heard any of his comments regarding the wrestling industry.
Doesn't surprise me, though.

Oh ya....google it up for shits and giggle when your just killing some time. He looks different and he talks like he isn't even sure what he's saying. Talks a lot of shit about a lot of wrestlers but his credibility is garbage. He is looking off in space while he is talking, he says stupid things like, "ugh ya...I ugh...injected...er ugh....Hogan in the Pontiac Silverdome back in 1987" which is bullshit. No one "injects" people with juice, its usually administered by the person themselves and in private like a hotel room. Just ridiculous things.

He's bat shit crazy. I saw some clips from one of his shoots. He said that Vince bumped his match with Hercules to second so they wouldn't take away from Hogan/Andre and that Benoit killed Nancy because Vince was Daniel's real dad...Billy was the one who told him this and was dealing Benoit drugs.
-

Who knows, Mass...wouldn't surprise me if there was some truth to it. Look at all the shit that happens outside the ring in the hotels, on the road, etc.

Lol...forgive my fat fingers today...I meant to say "gun smuggling" and "involved" in the above rush typed post ;D

Dave Schultz claims he pinned Hogan, too.
I guess when Hogan got him into the Fed, they were buddies.
When Hogan couldn't KEEP him in the Fed, bitterness set in.

It could be true, but I simply think he's trying really hard to get that book deal.

True. Almost nothing would shock me, but that seems out there. His "proof" was waving some magazine cover. I was more suprised that he said he was going to near main event wrestlemania III haha

Ricky Steamboat has stated that he and Savage were somewhat blackballed because their match one-upped the Hogan - Andre match.

Savage won the title the next year and was second only to Hogan, in terms of popularity when he turned face. I'm sure a lot of wrestlers wished the got "blackballed" like that.
And, in my view, the Hogan-Andre match WAS WrestleMania 3. I've often stated that, if had two Silverdomes and put every other match on the card in one and Hogan-Andre in the other, the latter would STILL get 93,173; the former would not.
-
Al Snow said something like most smarks think that Savage-Steamboat was the best match on the card but those "in the business" know Andre/Hulk was the best match because it drew more money. Interesting take.

There's no definitive right or wrong answer; it all comes down to judging criteria.
True smarks are often narrow-minded and try to make blanket statements.
No matter how you look at it, it's only men in lycra pretending to fight.
